I use lizards just like worms or craws . Recently I have been avoiding lizards and other baits with appendages in heavy brush . Bluegill and crappie like to hang out there too. Those panfish like to hone in on the little legs or pincers and I end up setting the hook on nothing , getting snagged and ruining any chance of catching a bass there . I opt for a straight tail worm those situations .
  2. I like unpainted heads then add eyes with black and white nail polish . My hand poured spinner and buzzbaits , same thing .
  3. I dont see a thing wrong with Cox fishing in the classic .
  4. I like to find the thermocline and the depth most of the fish seem to be relating to . Then go out on an extended point and fish from one depth to the other . Hit it just right and stay there for a few hours with non-stop action . I also target flats the same way . I dont get the numbers but catch an occasional lunker .
  5. More info needed . Describe the lake bank or boat equipment cover location be thorough .
  6. I did this one time . A friend who I bass fished with a lot , got pressured into baby-sitting some guys at work , take them fishing to try and catch some crappie . I went out that day and caught a big limit quickly .I knew where the other guys were fishing so pulled up . Did some small talk , asked if they were catching any ... Then I released the bass from my livewell one by one in front of him . Oh it killed him .LOL
  7. I finished third in the group . The best I have done by far . Was leading until the last tournament . Nebass78 and I was battling it out for the top spot then from out of nowhere rgbtr196le sprinted past us finishing the season with successive 1200 point finishes . The season went fast . Its going to be a long wait until next year .
  8. Mueller had motor problems .
  9. We need to ban those now from tournament fishing . Patrick Walters probably already uses one .?
  10. Hard telling . He didnt check in on Basstrack all day then had zero fish . I dont think he fished today .
  11. Anybody know what happened to Mueller today? Did he not fish ?
  12. How are they making the selections , on who gets cut next year ? I cant find it anywhere . I even started a post asking . Nobody seems to know .
  13. Bernie Shultz is on fire . I hope he can keep this up for four days .
  14. If I'm reading this right , you are trying to hit some sort of deep object with a bait . I simply toss a buoy to the side , back off a little and cast at it . Sometimes it takes a few cast to hit it . Brushpiles are easy to hit . Stumps are hard.
  15. I have a problem . Theres a lot of work to do, I'm behind and instead of getting up and going to work I'm drinking a second cup of coffee and watching this tourney . I think I'll have a third cup .
  16. C Johnston another Canadian fellow firefighter a northener another northener
  17. I did some stupid rig fishing this past spring and it worked real well but I used the tube jig heads I already had . I'm going to add these to my shopping list .
  18. I use paddletails on buzzbaits almost 100 per cent of the time . Hook up percentage is high bass seem to hit it more aggressively , it weighs more than a skirt so instead of using a 1/2 ounce buzzer I went down to a 3/8 ounce . It retrieves slower . The only disadvantage is my buzzbaits were not designed for them , so I have to super glue them on , otherwise I feel it makes for a better bait .
  19. If you are limited to the number of combos then make do with 20 lb floro or mono . But if your going to have a dedicated toad rod ,then braid is the way to go .
  20. They work but I under-utilize them . I cant use everything . The Bomber Long A Minnow in silver flash has caught a few keepers in standing timber for me during the summer .
  21. Go to 13:00 of Glenns video . This can best be done with the proper weight lure for the combo . Glenn is better at it than I . I've seen him make some impressive cast in his videos .
  22. Two weeks ago I saw bass jumping at dragonflies , I think that was the first time I ever seen it . There was a thin layer of duckweed on the water , the bass could see through it and they would try to get one if it buzzed too low . Whenever that happened I would then twitch a stanley ribbet as slow as I could right over them . Sometimes there would be a hole in the duckweed where a bass hit previously and I would catch them there too .
  23. We all were beginners once and struggled . Without knowing where you are fishing , equipment , from bank or boat ... I'll be generic . We know bass like to hang around things , anything , so choose lures that will fish whatever you are targeting efficiently . Pick the weights that allow you to cast best . Its hard to be accurate with lures that are a little too heavy or a little too light ." Make side arm , low trajectory cast ." Once you get the right weight paired with your combos it wont take long to be proficient at presenting baits where bass like to hang out . Before the internet and we got our information from magazines , casting accuracy was constantly stressed . None of the Youtube hot-shots even mention it or how to achieve it .
