  1. I bought a 5 to 1 ratio for deep diving crankbaits . I feel I got suckered into it . A 6 or 7 to 1 work just fine and are more versatile .
  2. As you know I still throw the Deep Wee R's a lot . I never caught much on the Rebel Humpback .
  3. I bought a KastKing Assassin . Had to send the first one back because it wouldnt engage after the clutch was depressed . The replacement , I have used for two years with no complaints . I also bought a Piscifun Phantom that is super smooth on the cast and retrieve. I prefer it over my Bass Pro Johnny Morris and Lews Tournament MB . I just ordered a second Phantom because with discounts I got it for 45 dollars .
  4. 12 lb Big Game for all my crankbait needs .
  5. 8 lb might be to thin and find its way inside the gap that surrounds the spool .
  6. Similar to the Dalton Special . I still use one .
  7. I've been watching his channel . I have a lot of old school lures and some still get fished .
  8. I should fish tubes more . They worked well for me when used . I have several packs of Gizits in a dark brown almost black color that I snagged from a discount bin . Those are what I use . Not saying they are better than others but I have had good success with them .
  9. I dont have time to wait them out , I'm going fishing . Works for me .
  10. Buzzbait Spinnerbait Plastic worm Texas rigged
  11. I'm stupid . I feel the rat-a-tat-tat I set the hook .
  12. Right now I have reached the point where if I'm fishing in thick , hairy brush I have trouble with long worms , craws , lizards , hula grubs , baby brush hogs ... I keep setting hooks on phantom fish and end up hung deep in the brush and have to break off . I dont know if they are small bass , bluegill or crappie . They dont get the long worms in their mouths or they grab any little leg , tentacle or other prtoburence . Yum Dingers , senkos and other same style worms have been less of a problem from those ghost fish .
  13. When fishing smaller bodies of water the bass are just everywhere . Just put the trolling motor on go and you will be fishing where the bass are . Even then , bass position themselves differently day to day and sometimes hour to hour . Sometimes bass like to be on points , tips of laydowns , mouths of coves...Then at other times they are inside cuts , inside laydowns , inside coves . They are predictable in their unpredictability .
  14. "Lots of floating crap" , is this a fenced in lagoon ?
  15. The only ones I dont like are the ones that are too hard .
  16. Does your lake have a rip rap dam ? If yes , then I can help you .
  17. Here is a photo of my rig and it works great . The europeans take their carp fishing seriously and they use hair rigs . One day while carp fishing at my camp I decided to make something similar . One picture is worth a thousand words. Slide a 1 ounce sinker on the line and tie a swivel for a carolina rig . On the leader add a bobber stop , a short piece of plastic tube . I simply stripped a piece off an electrical wire . Then slide on an octopuss hook . Crimp the barbs on a treble hook and tie it on. All the treble hook does, is act as a bait holder . Add your corn or doughball { I like a doughball made out of Wheaties} to the treble then slide it all together .The plastic tube keeps the bait in line with the octopuss hook ,only tie to the treble not the octopuss hook . Place in a rod holder and keep the line tight . the carp sucks in the bait , feels resistance and either bolts or blows the bait out . When it blows the bait out the octopuss hook gets him and it bolts . It is some fun fishing .
  18. On the bottom . I like to use my old bass flipping rods and a baitcast reel . Use a heavy 1 ounce weight and carolina rig an Octupuss hook baited with a couple of kernels of whole corn short leader say 1 foot , keep the line tight . Stick in a good rod holder and tighten it , no slack , pop a beer and sit back . The carp will suck in the corn , feel that weight get scared and bolt , hooking itself . The rod will look like its going to get pulled in . I use to have a camper on a shallow bay and carp fished several times a week . I developed my own rig that worked with corn or dough balls . If I can find a photo I will post it .
  19. I tend to use the smallest hook I can get away with . One that has a gap twice the size as the plastic . If in thick brush or some other place where it is difficult to get the bass out , then I will go to a larger hook .
  20. I think bait selection is the easiest part of bass fishing so I say right spot .
  21. I see what you mean .
  22. The tail is a Creme Scoundrel . I thought he caught those two seven lbers on it . edit I found a video and the bookend 7 lbers were not on the rat
  23. I have caught bass in 70 foot but I was fishing emergent standing timber so that doesnt count .
