  1. 1/4 ounce Beetle Spins should work well with your combo . Dont look down on Beetle Spins , they catch bass .
  2. I dont have a favorite color , so trying to think back over the years I have probably caught the most 4 lb plus fish on a bluegill pattern .
  3. Not really but when I go to a local conservation dept lake , private boats are not allowed . They supply 14 foot jon boats . I have one of them marked . Thats my boat . If my boat is already out , then shoot , the day has already started out bad .
  4. Dark colored large Beetle spin . Being they dont make the large size anymore, just go to wal mart and buy the components to make your own . 1/4 ounce heads , bodies and spinner harness .A bluegill or crawfish colored grub would work .
  5. Same here . I dont even think about it . I throw a willow/colorado combo almost 100 percent of the time unless night fishing . Then I throw a Midnight Special and it comes armed with a Colorado .
  6. I never thought about it but my left thumb is sore so Left handed it is .
  7. There use to be a link on this forum to navionics , I'm sure I misspelled that . but go to their website and you should find a topographical map of the lake you are referring too .
  8. Not just tournament anglers but I have had recreational anglers come fish exactly where I'm at . One time a fellow cut me off to fish a tree I was approaching . Then afterwards he bragged "Last week I caught a six lber out of the tree I cut you off at . " I think some guys judge fishermen by the craft they are in and if its not up to their standards , then they view them as second class anglers and thus they can justify treating one as such . I can only imagine what the kayakers put up with .
  9. You just dont know . Just have to try everything . Maybe a tube , hula grub , trick worm , dinger....
  10. I have come full circle on spinnerbaits . When I first got heavily into bass fishing spinnerbaits were my top lures . Then they took a backseat to soft plastics , jigs , cranks and buzzbaits . But in bass fishing one is always evolving and in the last three years spinnerbaits have become my top producer again .
  11. If your using a bright skirt , I would replace it with a more natural baitfish pattern .
  12. I dont know about you guys but when using a baitcaster , if I'm using to light a weight , I will usually miss to the left. To heavy and I will miss to the right . I dont carry a couple dozen rods like the pros , where I can match the rod to the bait . I carry a handful so I have to match the bait to the rod .
  13. I dont know . I saw the wake of a bass in muddy water move several feet to get to a little Beetle Spin . I dont think it could see the bait but it knew where it was at and where it was heading .
  14. Randy Blaukat tells about what the Ozark lakes use to be like compared to today . I got to fish one major reservoir during its Hay Days and now its just a shell of its former self . The best bass fishing I ever had was on a small river . Big smallmouths , 100 fish days but the word got out and its pretty much ruined . I blame it mostly on fishing pressure .
  15. Frogs and walking baits . That continuous twitching wears on me . A lot of deep crankbaits are hard but the Dredgers come in pretty easy and out-dive other baits the same size .
  16. I use skirt colors similar to that a lot .
  17. I'm going to have to go with a senko style worm .
  18. The lure is being retrieved in water that is not likely to draw a strike . Watch and listen to Glen starting at 12:55.
  19. On those long overhand lobs toward visible targets , most of the cast is wasted and you just cant be efficient that way . Watch Glens videos . He does an excellent job casting , the bait stays in the strike zone longer and he presents it to more fish . Its the difference between catching a few fish and a few dozen .
  20. I hope not . I have a few and they are my best producers .I have one that has a loose weight inside and it rattles very quietly . Its my favorite .
  21. I'm not a great caster either but not terrible . I think most new anglers pay to much attention to lure colors and other things . They need to forget all that stuff and step up their casting game . Bass are not rare , they are prolific and like to hang around stuff , so if enough stuff is fished then one is fishing where bass are . Learn how to present the bait with low trajectory cast . Take spinnerbaits . The most important aspect of a spinnerbait are not the blades or color but weight . Match the weight to the rod to make those precision low trajectory cast .
  22. Texas rigged stick worms in brush . I lost several that wouldnt come out but managed about twenty .
  23. I have caught a lot of bass on Bayou Boogies and Pico Perches .
