Sticking with it #embracethegrind...
Twice in my life I lost all frontal vision but had peripheral vision and another time everything just went crazy wavy for about an hour .No other symptoms . The Dr told me they were a form of migraines .

Night fishing
My cousin and I watched a huge fire ball go clear across the sky . Next days newspaper said it was space junk re-entering the atmosphere .

That Thing You Do. . . . .
An algae explosion made the back of coves inaccessible on a local lake . Nobody would go back there . I oared back there and caught bunches of bass . Had them all to myself .

Jitterbug
I never had a lot of luck with jitterbugs and havent thrown one in years . I have one of those black Musky jitterbugs for night fishing but never caught anything with it . I did hear big explosion's fishing it but dont know if they were bass or frightened carp . I just got a 2.0 Hula Popper . Gone are the old hook hangers . I would like to see a 2.0 Mudbug .

Crawfish colored crankbaits fished parallel to sunny rocky banks .

That Thing You Do. . . . .
I've done that too and now I dont use braid except for with toads and frogs . Then I tighten the drag so it doesnt slip . Yeah , I sliced my finger pretty good a few times .

That Thing You Do. . . . .
I hold the rod in front of the reel with the line held between my index finger and thumb . Just something I have done since I was a kid . I use to jig crappie lures up and down in brush and it aided me into feeling the lure . When I ventured into bass fishing I still held it that way .It does help detect light strikes.

How many of your rods have been broken because of your friends?
I had at least two stepped on . A cousin stepped on one but I got even later that year and stepped on one of his .

Hourly averages bass
On the lake I fish most I speculate about 5 fish per hour and thats counting down time when I'm not fishing . When I get on them though , its mad .

Baits you've given up on?
I have never caught fish on chatterbaits either but I havent given them a fair go at it . Every time I tie one on ,after a few cast I switch to a spinnerbait . There is nothing wrong with that . Every one fishes differently and the chatterbait just hasnt filled a niche . Who knows , maybe this year the conditions and bass behavior might be conducive to chatterbaits and I become a heavy user of them . That type of thing has happened in the past .

KVD squarebills . I never had much luck with them but smashed the bass on other squarebills the same day .

Spike-it markers are legit
They are fun to play with but they keep permeating . So what looks cool today might not look the same when its time to use it . I liked using the red marker to put a stripe down a blue Jelly worm , after a few days I had a two tone worm of blue and purple .

Wake Bait Color
I dont have a true wake bait but I do wake baits . I will fish a Bomber Long A Minnow just under the surface pushing a wake . I only use one color , silver flash .

Oklahoma Spinner Blades
I caught a ton of bass on these Terminator blades this past year .I had two Titanium framed ones . The first one caught enough fish that it broke and I lost the blades . The second one same thing but I didnt lose the blades . After transferring the blades to a new hand poured bait , I continued to slaughter the bass with them .After 30 to 50 bass I then transferred the blades to another bait and so on . Then one day after retying I launched that bait into the stratosphere . Oh well . They are good blades and I wish I had more .

Best conditions for white colors?
Bright colored spinnerbaits work so well during the pre spawn that everybody is throwing them .

What angle do you like your topwaters when not moving?
Other than buzzbaits my favorite top water bait is the Bomber Long A Minnow. It sits horizontal .

What ruins a fishing trip for you more than anything?
I once saw a boat lying on the boat ramp . I think that ruined his day . Another time I met a guy at the ramp and someone done stole his trailer !

Sticking with it #embracethegrind...
Those who dont grind it out usually find another hobby .I paid my dues and had lots of skunking's as a young angler . Didnt mind it . I just like to fish , always have always will . Its a rewarding feeling when I grind it out for hours and then finish with a flourish .

When a deer jumps in the boat while going down the highway , kicks the crap out of everything and tears up the upholstery This happened to me one morning on the way to a tournament .

“Fast” vs “Slow” fishing
When a person reels the bait in quickly to get to the next cast , the lure has already passed the targeted area .
-
“Fast” vs “Slow” fishing
When bass are not biting the default reaction should not always be to slow down . Sometimes that is a good maneuver but often speeding things up is best . Try both . Giving bass more time to examine an artificial bait can be detrimental .I remember a club tournament I won back in the 70's . It was late in the day and I had zilch . I started burning a Bomber Long A Minnow next to stumps and in the final hour caught two bass that weighed almost fourteen lbs . Those bass didnt have the time to mull it over or whatever their little bundle of nerve cells do . Like a light changing too yellow right at the critical moment . You cant think about it , you either stop abruptly or proceed.
