  1. My smoke alarm are old but they work well. Smoke from cooking sets the things off. If i'm frying a steak , I take them down.
  2. Only got to fish a half dozen times due to medical reasons. Only had a few baits that did well. Buzzbaits Cavitron Bomber Prop A top water bait Bomber Model A crankbait Spinnerbait Tubes. I fished tubes with exposed hooks, texas rigged and stupid rigs.I really expanded on tube fishing this year.
  3. I wear scrips with progressive lens. I priced some new ones locally and they wanted 600 dollars just for the lens. I walked out. There comes a time where the price becomes to steep and they have reached it. I might regret it but I ordered a pair of polarized sunglasses online for 200 dollars.

It seems like every time I visit The Everything Else sub forum theres another cancer story. I'm very sorry to hear this. My thoughts are with you and everyone else who is being effected by it.
  5. I have too many lures and usually use a few. Maybe 1 percent. My crankbait boxes are so saturated , I have a hard time closing them . If I want to add a lure, I first have to remove a lure.
  6. I havent tried the Power tubes but am interested. I've been using Zman EZ tubez. They get bit and one tube will catch bunches of bass . I think I caught thirty bass with one before having to replace it. I use a parasite clip to keep them from balling up.
  7. The Arbogast Mudbug use to be my preferred cold water crankbait. I threw it in the same areas Wiggle Warts are famous for.
  8. I still have some of those, hanging in the den. I never caught much with them. They were good looking baits though. Lazy Ike made a Natural Ike out of a hard foam with some good looking finishes. Never caught much with them either. They are hanging with my Bagleys Small Fry lures. I dont think it was the finish of these lures that turned bass off because I have done well with traditional shapes like Deep Wee R's in natural patterns.
  9. I went Friday for what may very well be my last outing of the year. Fishing was tough but got a few on cranks along a riprap dam. Digging through my cranks I found an old "Excalibur Suspending Mystic Shad". I thought for sure it would produce. I fished the entire dam with it , stopping it, twitching it and not a bite. It was a good idea though, just didnt pan out.
  10. How did your day go? I didnt go to a new lake but visited one for the first time this late in the season. I only caught 8 bass on riprap using cranks and tubes. Thats averaged out to one an hour. It was tough and the largest about 15 inches. My expectations were a lot greater. It was a nice day though and only one other boat on the lake.
  11. Current water temp here in north Missouri is in the low 50's. Bomber Model A crankbait time. I'm going tomorrow too and already rigged up. I plan on fishing the rip rap dam hard unless there are others already fishing it. Then play it by ear.
  12. 150 acre lake, I fish lakes of similar size lot in north Missouri. I usually start from the boat ramp and fish my way around. 8 hours and the whole thing can be fished.
  13. Ive been pitching tubes with a 5/16th or 1/4 oz weight on my bait casting wormin rod. The Z-Man EZ tubes are what I have settled on. They are thinner than flipping tubes and even though thats a lot of weight to be using with them, I catch a lot of bass The thicker flipping tubes I missed a lot of bites. I also use a parasite clip to keep them from balling up. The hook-up percentage is pretty good. Stupid tubes on bait casting gear also got bit but I had a difficult time working them through brush or newer lay-downs. Older timber minus the little limbs, they worked excellent. I use tubes with an exposed hook on spinning gear and lighter weights.
  14. I dont have a lot of meat on my fingers. If i have to wear gloves then its too cold.
  15. I still have a bag too. I caught thousands of bass on 6 inch Manns jelly worms. Both the original and curl tail. Bought them in 100 packs. I still have a few bags.
  16. There are flats that I fish that have a well defined drop off. I rarely catch bass on the drop or suspended in open water but catch bass and sometimes big one close to the drop off. FFS would be the way to go. I only have 2d sonar but rely on it to keep me directly on top of the drop as I cast shallower with cranks and Carolinas. That allows me to fish quickly. If a bass is hooked I'll drop a buoy and fish the area more thoughly.
  17. My defintion of run n gun is making a few cast then go to the next spot. I'm not in a kayak but often in a plastic boat fishing with elec. motor only. I fish my way from spot to spot.
  18. look up Kendik 3 inch Clatter Shad.
  19. How many times have I had trouble casting and thinking what the heck is wrong with this thing , only to find out that some how the line got twisted around the blank next to the tip?
  20. I'm not going to camp out on a spot in hopes that my luck will change. I'm not a run and gunner either. Theres a lot of lake to be fished , so usually I'll just fish my around it, especially if its a 200 acre or less body of water.
  21. I've had a few days where I caught a bass on almost every cast.
  22. I throw a lot more cranks in fall than in spring. A Bomber Model A Is a proven producer. If I get back out this year I will be giving the Model A a go.
  23. Around here bass are everywhere. Put the trolling motor down and make enough good cast , its usually just a matter of time.
  24. The Missouri state record was caught in 1961, 13lbs 14 oz at bull Shoals in soutthern Mo.. I'll wager it will never be broken unless its from a private pond. I fish mostly in northern Mo. I use to catch several six and seven lb bass a year, now those are a rarity. I caught them everywhere. Ditches, culverts, weeds , timber, beaver lodges and every cover available. Thats what I focus on. I try to make a quiet approach , make a quiet presentation and hope for a big bite. I fish off shore structure like points, humps and dropoffs near flats. Those spots are not as productive as they once were because every bass fisherman know where they are.
