  1. Cavitron comes in that size now. I dont have one but saw it advertised. The heavier Cavitrons cast real well
  2. Stupid tubes dont work well in newer trees with a lot small limbs. That space between the hook eye and nose gets caught on every little limb. Old wood where all the tiny limbs are gone its fine .
  3. Have you settled on your hook yet?
  4. I went to bed last night thinking about this like I often to do after fishing. First I'm using a thick walled tube . I think thin ones will collapse better. Second I'm using a Laser sharp tube flipping hook . I'm going to go try a thinner EWG worm hook. I think it will be a better combination. I dont want to abandon pitching tubes because they get bit and nonone throws them around here.
  5. That was a huge failure. I tried flippinh tubes today and caught ten or so bass but also missed ten or so. I'd set the hook, feel the fish, then the lure would come out. One time I had mouth tissue on the hook. I'm just not a fan of EWG hooks. Switched to a texas rig lizard and did much better.
  6. I watched the video and the end result , the hook was not laying flat. There was a gap between the hook point and the tube. I've been fishing the rig in wood and its imperative that it lies flat . For me , anyhow, it works better to run the bend in the tube all the way to the nose, then push it out.
  7. I figured out how to rig the stupid tube perfectly every time, eliminating the guess work. Instead of running the point in the tube first then guessing where it comes out, run the bend of the hook in first, push it all the way in to the nose and it will be in position to push through . Just poke it through and finish the rig. It needs lube. I used sun block, its the only thing I had on hand.
  8. Not suppose to enjoy the slight tap of a bass inhaling a worm or jig than a top water explosion but feeling a tap that some people might miss and setting the hook on a solid fish is just as exciting to me as a bass jumping all over a top water.
  9. I've been recovering from major surgery so taking it easy. Havent fished since May until the last two weeks , I've been three times. Each trip I'm a little stronger and staying a little longer. Catching a few fish with some three lbers. I have two boats to fish out of. A 22 foot Lowe deck boat and a little plastic boat. I've been fishing out of the big boat because its not as strenuous. I think I'm ready to wrestle the little boat, battery, elec motor... into my truck and start hitting smaller lakes where the fishing is usually better.
  10. Ive only used it the two times and have caught perhaps 20 bass with it or a little less. The only two that have come off were hung up in wood. Had a lot of swing and misses but i think those are green sunfish.
  11. I was back at it today and found out that these are not the easiest to rig perfectly. My first couple were perfect with the hook lying flat on the back similar to a frog hook. No point exposed at all, texposing is not needed. 100 percent hookup so far. Then the last two I rigged the point was sticking up a little and I could not correct it. I'll have to get better at that. Only caught 8 largemouths with one 15 inch keeper .
  12. Most of the time fishing from a boat is much easier than from bank. They can set up better angles to make the right cast. All lure catergories work. Were they casting at something visible , like weeds , logs..? Texas rigs can be fished in all sorts of cover. Learning to detect strikes is one of the most crucial aspects of the sport. That and accurate casting. Match your lures to your rod ratings. Try to use lures in the middle of your rods rating.
  13. I fish a lake that has some parts of it choked out with chara. most anglers avoid it. I catch lots of bass in it. The only treble hook lures I use are top waters and then only around the edges or lanes. Frogs, toads on top. Spinnerbaits around the edges.
  14. I have my productive lures. Some of them hardly anyone else uses. They produce and bass choke on them. I dont use every new thing unless I see a need for it. I like the tough days of fishing, not as much as the good days still. I'm ready to change whenever not catching bass becomes tedious. Some days I keep plugging away because it just seems right. Other days I start expiermenting quickly. Then some days I start out with something new, mainly because I've been thinking about it.
  15. My waters are almost always green. I use the normal colors and patterns. lots of shad and sunfish colors. June bug , greens and browns with soft plastics.
  16. I rough up tubes. It seems to me the more tore up a tube is the better, so I give them a head start.
  17. I cant help you with new lures. I still throw Rogers Big Jims. Just scored four 1/4 oz Big Jims on E-Bay for 18 dollars shipping included. Put some new hooks on them and tried them out yesterday. All four ran perfect with a hunting action. I use these things in wood a lot. They have caught more bass in size and numbers than any crank I have used.
  18. That would work. I was using my worm rod, 4 inch tube and 5/16th oz jighead.
  19. I'm not fishing it . Just commenting that there were a lot of boats practicing for it.
  20. I used the stupid tube rig for the first time today. I didnt tear the bass up, caught about a dozen largemouths with the largest 3lb 8oz. I was fishing rocky banks with isolated shade , and scattered logs. I was impressed with the hookup ratio. Every fish but one that was hooked I landed. The only one I didnt land got hung up in a log and I couldnt get it out. I'll be using these a lot from now on. Theres a big tournament this weekend and bass boats were hitting all the usual spots. I picked an area thats not known for bass. Had it to myself .
  21. Cousin and I were fishing a small lake in a jon boat with an electric motor. He shoved off and in doing so hurt his back. His sciatic nerve. It was hurting pretty bad but he was wanting to fish more than it hurt. We got a cove over and he could not stand it any more. He said "take me to the bank" . There was an angler tied off to a tree in the middle of the cove. When we got to the bank , my cousin crawled out and laid flat on his belly and said to rub his lower back . So I did He started grunting and saying "harder, harder.' The boat untied and took off. LOL Our fishing was done . We went back and he vivsited a chiropracter.
  22. Hell yeah! I solo camped a lot in my life.
  23. Half a Yum Dinger. Being I have a couple hundred tore up Dingers I use the intact rear half for trailers and Neds.
  24. They are engulfing that lure , huh? I'll have to get me one.
  25. I picked a package of those up today along with some heads with a wide gap for stupid rigging.
