  1. Its not easy to know how deep each crankbait dives .There is not a chart that I have found and I have looked . 8 foot and below there are a lot of crankbaits that will work . I like for the crankbait to hit bottom but not dig to hard in it . So if the depth is 15 foot a lure with a maximum depth of 15 foot is not what I pick . I'll go with one that dives deeper . Berkely dredgers dive to their advertised depth with 12 lb mono so that made crankbait selection easy for me. They have a tight action and dont wear a person out like a lot of deep divers do .
  2. When I catch'em they are Hawgs . When other catch'em they are flukes .
  3. During the classic Ott Defoe was banging the heck out of a dock . He hit like three times in succession .
  4. Dont be over patronizing though . Old folks dont want to be a burden . I was at this lake where 14 foot jon boats are free . It rained the night before and the boats had a lot of water in them . I couldnt just pull the plugs because the transom's were in the water .I'm 60ish and there is this other fellow there appeared to be in his 70's . It took both of us to flip the boats and empty the water . I'm sure both of us would have managed alone but man those things were heavy . I help people drag them out too and appreciate it when they help me .
  5. Make a jig by placing nails in some wood , where you want the bends to be . This will keep it flat .Once you get it how you like it all your forms will be identical . I did it with buzzbaits .
  6. Yes .
  7. I used Yum Money Minnows in lieu of skirts late last year . I glued them on . Like said , they cast further and surfaced easier . The hook ups were pretty good too . I bought a bunch of clearance swim baits this year , just for buzzbaits .
  8. I tried eating one of those huge drums and it was the worst . The stones in its hear were cool though .
  9. I fish an awful lot of chartreuse . I dont use a big chartreuse profile a lot but accents of it .
  10. It depends on the type of vegetation . I've never encountered any that I can rip crankbaits free of .
  11. My two most productive colors for a Rattle Trap are chartreuse and chrome.
  12. It does depend on the body of water too . Some will rise quickly and turn muddy . Others hardly change at all .
  13. Go with some small stuff like Beetle Spins . When starting out I fished for whatever was biting and didnt discriminate against bluegills, crappie , catfish, white bass , walleye , carp , drum...
  14. Remember where that snag is and work a Texas rig through it .
  15. I interpreted it that he was fishing from a boat .
  16. Cover is a good thing . Pick lures that will let you exploit it . A texas rig is the obvious choice . A lipped crankbait is more snag resistant than a lipless . Spinnerbaits are surprisingly snag resistant .
  17. Corn and mullberries are good . I usually fish corn side by side with dough balls . Like in bass fishing some days they prefer one bait over the other.
  18. That stuff is had to find .
  19. Most of the time fish it as slow as it will allow . Dont set the hook until you feel the fish on . Use a trailer hook . In my experience buzzbaits have a high hook up percentage compared to other top-waters .
  20. Use the same lures as any other days . When tossing up inside a culvert I avoid hard plastic lures like crankbaits or poppers because they will inadvertently get bounced off the concrete and break . Spinnerbaits , buzzbaits , soft plastics and jigs will catch fish in there. A half ounce spinnerbait is perhaps my favorite lure for culverts because I can do a low trajectory under-hand cast way back up in there .

No one is ever going to catch 100 per cent of the bass that see their lure . Can eyes up the percentage a few points ? Maybe .
  22. Yes and I fish just like any other day . I pay special attention to culverts and places where water is running in the lake .
  23. For decades i have not been able to find this . My mom found it . So with no further ado . mix 1 cup flour 1 cup oats 1 cup corn meal 2 tsp sugar 2 tsp salt enough water to make it the consistency of biscuit dough. I use the liquid from canned corn instead of water . Make hamburger like patties and drop them individually in boiling water for three minutes . Remove . After they cool , cut into little squares . Refrigerate , when not in use . I imagine these could be rolled into little balls and boiled . We use to slay carp on the Mississippi with this.
  24. You ever jump in the water on a hot summer day and feel the difference in temperature under the boat . The shade provides noticeable relief under water . Infra red rays get absorbed quickly . Bass in shallow water apparently feel the difference too . Seek out the shade in shallow water and sometimes the only effective way to fish it is slowly with a snag resistant lure such as a Texas rig . Other times though , a faster lure can effectively fish it . In deep water I give both a try . One of my favorites out deep is to "worm' fish a Red Eye Shad .
  25. I had some blades that needed to be put into service . These baits were poured inexpensively probably less than a dollar each .The one on the left has a Strike King blade . I picked up a whole bunch of these with the ball bearing swivel years ago for a quarter a pack . The middle one has Excalibur offset blades . The original bait the wire broke off last week. On the right, i dont know what the main blade is or where I got it . Stanley Wedge , maybe ? The skirts are Terminator skirts that I found on clearance . Unpainted heads .The lead is free . I have enough lead to last me for the rest of my life and have given away a hundred lbs of it .
