  1. i'm not entirely sure i follow. I don't determine whether it is good or bad based on durability, but it's hard to give the thing a solid review when it lasted for one fish. I'm pretty sure this would be the cheapest rod i own (maybe the berkley lightning i have). If i were just getting started, i would not want to spend $40 on this rod. I don't typically take people's review as the whole truth, but am a firm believer in where there is smoke there is fire. I'm not the most experienced guy on here for sure, but I treat the other dozen rods i have with utmost care as well and would be equally as frustrated if they broke on my first hookset. I just made the post in an effort to make the new entry level guy aware of the issue I had with this rod as well as the numerous complaints i found online stating the same experiences. As noted, i really do dislike any negativity about products, but I truly feel at any cost this is a waste of your money and time. If someone else has had good experiences with the rod, i would love to hear, but either way I wouldn't purchase another.
  2. i hate to pull up an old thread and even worse hate to talk poorly of anything, but thought it was worth mentioning that these rods just aren't worth your money or trouble. I purchased a 7' M spinning rod from cabela's on a whim while in the store. Used it one time and broke between the 2nd and 3rd guide on the first fish i caught (about a 1.5 lb largemouth). I was bummed and thought it was a loss, but looked at reviews and saw nearly everyone had the same experience. So, i thought it was worth a trip back to the store and explain the situation and just see what they would say. The CS lady said this was not the first one of those rods she had seen come back broken (likely why they are all clearanced out). She was super helpful and said she could give me store credit to which i said great!! Coincidentally i had purchased this thing as a river beater rod that i wouldn't cry over if i broke it, BUT i didn't mean on the first trip/first fish!!! Just thought it worth mentioning here, just in case any of you guys stumble into Cabela's and think you're getting a great deal.
  3. i'm really thinking about trying to attend the tomorrowWorld festival just outside of atlanta... saw some people in the lineup that i'd like to see: laidback luke bingo players benny benassi kaskade pete tong and tiesto (even though he's not what he used to be) just wish it wasn't so dam expensive to go to things like this.....
  4. i too was utterly confused, but that link with pics actually helps to make sense of this thing. But i'm with Choporoz, i don't think it matters to me in the grand scheme. I would think that if you're that particular about the combo, somebody like mike at DVT would need to build you a custom to meet all your specifications. This just seems like something that is so technical you wouldn't be able to achieve the perfect balance with the off the shelf rods.... not to mention i do too much musical chair swapping of reels and rods to ever think about making such a perfectly balanced combo....
  5. i would imagine 10lb copoly to be pretty tough to manage on a spinning reel. look into yozuri hybrid. has a MUCH higher breaking strength than the pound rating. You could do 6 or 8 lb yozuri hybrid if you want to go that route.
  6. i'm in the market for a well made old school wooden/wicker creel basket. I have some old school lures that my grandmother passed down after my grandfather passed. I'm going to hang them off the creel basket for display and mount his old 60's era eagle claw fly rod/shakespeare reel up over the creel basket. Just need to find said creel basket, but not one that costs a fortune like the ones i've seen so far... don't know if that's practical or what you'd want, but that's my intent. my brother has something similar in his house with an old tin Heddon sign hanging up and it looks great.
  7. man i am digging that full cork handle!! not that i dislike the handle on my gen 1, but am slowly leaning toward the full handles. May have to find me a good deal on a gen 2 and give them a shot! Not to mention *** has a stellar customer service group.
  8. beat me to it.... this is the only choking going on at my house. seriously, had never heard of choking point before this thread.
  9. see if you can get Mike at Siebert Outdoors to help you out. Shoot him a PM or email him at siebertoutdoors@gmail He's a good dude that has AWESOME products. I'm willing to bet he can help you out.
  10. that thing looks awesome!! Good luck to LCM, i couldn't bring myself to fish it!!
  11. That roadkill is sweet. I found some a while ago and snagged every bag at that store! I don't think I need much in the way of hooks and plastics, but d**n if I don't need to place another jig order with you!!
  12. for what you described, i like 15lb power pro and 8lb flouro as a leader. That's what i'm using for the same application and throwing that on my pflueger supreme mgx reel. For about $50 i would say a pflueger president would be the ticket.
  13. they only know how to play football and baseball in GA.... I've never been to Indiana, but basketball is life in North Carolina! They don't call it the best rivalry in college basketball for nothing!
  14. those flapping hogs are really nice for a jig trailer, usual durability issues with the GY plastics, but they're great.
  15. I returned a garbage rod that i bought at Cabela's (broke on first fish and about 90% of reviews said the same). i bought it on a whim because it was on sale and a 2 piece.... shame on me for no research before buying. Anyways, they were most helpful and provided me with a store credit for the rod. Of course I had to spend it right away..... the LCs and the War Eagles were on sale..... i'm a sucker.
  16. i've always used a trailer hook on a buzzbait, even cavitrons, but don't know if they are necessary or not. It may just help with my confidence if nothing else....
  17. agree with nearly every post thus far. i bought a vision 110 and then ended up with nearly a dozen megabass lures too.... also, i NEVER buy things at full retail. i bought a lot of my MB lures at Dick's Sporting Goods using a $10 off $50 or $20 off $100 or something like that to justify buying them.... Bought some LC pointer 100s for $6 on clearance (bought them all). Found some lipless lucky crafts for $7.... Also, it's a LOT easier to spend that money when you see review after review saying how well the bait performs. And it also makes it easier for me to spend extra $ on the topwater baits that i feel i have very little chance of snagging or losing.
  18. Smalljaw is right, you can turn a suspending jerkbait into a sinker or floater in a second if you put the wrong size/weight hooks on there (may be a good thing sometimes). Going to have to try me some of the Lazer Sharps when i go through the extra trebles i already have laying around. Also agree with rippin that the mustad triple grips are good hooks and rather affordable.
  19. this is exactly what i've done lately (aside from rage tail craws/keitech swimbaits for jig/swim jig trailers, can't keep enough of those) you know you mean business when you refer to the plastics you purchase as "sacks"!!! good luck to you too!
  20. i don't know why, but i have no will power. i open packages as soon as i get home. i only have a handful of new in package baits and they are the backup of the backup. i truly wish i could leave them in the package, would help me a lot when i go to trade or sell.
  21. i hear you on that, some guys are just really good at all the editing.... you never know man, maybe clayton JR wants a fishing show one day... he almost looks like a little Jimmy Houston in that avatar pic!!
  22. man i felt like a hero last night when i snagged my spook back that snapped off during a backlash cast.... that was a $5 lure.... for a $500 combo i would have done cartwheels and with the fish still on.... buy a lotto ticket.
  23. recently purchased myself a dobyns rod and have been very impressed. i'm in the market for another one.
  24. yes, i do for expensive lines like flouro and braid. mono or copoly just get spooled straight. no more than about 75 yards of the good line for me...
