Yeah I've always thought about buying the stuff to tie my own but I know what would happen if I did. I bought 15 packs of skirts and 60 jig heads so I ran out of jig heads tonight before getting them all put together. I put in an order for another 6 packs of skirts in white,pearl, and hologram colors plus 60 more jig heads. I have a problem already I think haha.

Getting ready for the upcoming season. Thanks to Siebert Outdoors and FishingSkirts.com I kept myself busy for a few hours tonight. Made up a bunch of 1/2 3/8 1/4 swim jigs and some arky's. Now to choose the ones I want in my plano box. This is going to take a while. Haha

My addiction can't be limited to just one choice. Usually when I order one the other isn't more then a few days behind it. I generally spend about $150 on a reel and about the same on a rod. My most recent addiction though is tungsten weights.

Buy your first casting setup as already mentioned. It took forever for me to cave in but man I'm glad I did. A nice entry level setup would be a BPS pro qualifier casting reel and a Berkley lightning rod. A 7' med/heavy would be great for what you want to fish on it plus more if you decide. That'll run you right around $200 with a spool of bps fluorocarbon and taxes. Also wait till the spring classic during the second week of Feb-March. Might be a better deal on the reel or even something better combo wise.

Mg has a graphite frame and the other 2 are aluminum frames. The speed spool and tournament mg are essentially the same but the tournament mg has a bigger spool and longer handle. Plus more drag. I owned a regular speed spool and sold it because it was noisy. I currently own a tournament mg in the LH 5:4:1 model and it's ok but it'll be replaced with the BB1L in the 5:1:1. It was released yet so I had to settle on the Mg for a cranking reel. I have a couple of the tournament models and I also own one of the new BB1Z models plus a couple tournament Pros. Both of them I love especially the Tournament Pros. You can get the BB1 models on eBay for $129 shipped. The tournament for about $125 and the TP for $155. The reels you mentioned are on there also for less then what you've said. Personally the tournament 'not the mg' is the lowest model I'd purchase and for $125 it's well worth it but I'd spend the extra $30 every time for the Pro model.

Can't help with the original question but will second the post about their customer service. I accidentally ruined the grip on the handle. Called to purchase a new one as it was my fault. They asked how long ago I bought the reel and where from. Sent me a new handle free of charge.

I have both the tournament pro and the tournament from Lews. The difference is minimal but the lighter reel is nice. I'd like to add the Quantum Smoke 100 series to your already difficult decision. Super smooth and light. Can pick one up nib for 130-150.

Your cousin will be plenty happy with that. Heck you might even end up with a few after you try it out. I've owned about 4-5 lightning rods in spinning and one shock casting rod. Never had any problems with any of them ever. There's quite a few people that use them on here.

For the price the BPS PQ is a great starting reel. I had one and it treated me good. I now use all Lews tournament or tournament pro models. The Tp is a better reel but cost more but is a great buy at 145. The Abu pro max is also a good reel. Pretty equal to the PQ. Good starter reel too. I've thrown my friends Shimanos and they were ok but I really don't see why they are spoken about as they're the best thing since sliced bread. It was a citica and curado but I don't know the exact models. I can't speak for their high dollar stuff though. I'd suggest picking up a PQ during the spring classic and a spool of BPS fluoro and you'll come in at $100 plus taxes.

I'm no help as I've spent about $900 in the past 2wks on that wretched little monkey. I tell myself if all my bills are paid for the month and it doesn't set my bank account below a certain level then why not. Can't take it with you.

If I ever caught a 10lb bass in my area I'd ***** myself. The state record is 11.2 and that was from a farm pond in 1983. It's funny because the state record for a rainbow trout is 14.3

Not saying it's going to be a ranger and it can be aluminum I'm okay with that. Doesn't even have to be bigger just designed better really. I want a more bass fishing oriented boat though. This almost has no rod storage,not much storage period,live well is small,front deck is small.

This was the first boat I ever bought. Mercury Minnow that I slightly modified. Added a section of flooring to stand on and front rear decks. I fished it for a while then sold it to purchase a more Fisher boat. Hopefully fish it for a year and then sell it off to buy an older ranger or something like that.

I have a Texas made Allstar titanium spin/jig model and it's a great rod. MH with more tip. Wish they were still all made in Tx.

I wish there was something in my area as far as small tournaments go. I'd like to try one out sometime.

I have all Lew's casting reels and specifically the ones you're asking about. The tournament pro is the best bang for the buck. They can be picked up for $155 new. I haggled one down to $145 the other day. The bb models don't have a mag break just centrifugal but it's also the smart brake system. The BB1 and BB1L are the only models without the instant anti reverse. All the rest have it. So anything other then the 5:1:1 ratio is not designed to be a cranking reel. These can be found for $130 My bb1zl casts a lot smoother then the tournament speed spool which can be had for $110 or less. I also have a tournament mg as a crank reel. It was my only LH option in a low ratio since the BB1 models hadn't been released yet. I also had a regular speed spool but sold it. Was loud. I fish LH retreive so I can't speak for the team Lews models or the super duty. You never said if you wanted a cranking reel or what. My preference goes as follows if it's not meant for just cranks. TP BB TSS If it's for cranks then the BB1 for sure.

Okuma trio 30 here. Not the hs model. 3yrs strong and still smooth as butter. $75 when I bought them but are around $60 now.
