That last part is not always true. It seemed like it was that years ago. I filed a claim on a rod that was described as in excellent condition and it was not. I provided pictures and all. Didn't even get the partial $25 refund I was asking for.

Sell them in lots of 2+ to keep shipping down and the amount you're going to lose on them. Other than local sites there is no easy way. A $300 rod would typically sell for about $170-220 shipped depending on the demand for it and how old it is. Then subtract $40 for shipping,insurance, and paypal fees. You aren't left with too much after that. Also depending on how much you care about the buyer receiving an undamaged item you could have another $20 in shipping materials. I ship in 2" pvc pipe with pvc endcaps plus use 1" pipe insulation to cover the entire rod. Runs me about $21 but I know it will arrive undamaged and don't have to worry about fighting with the shipper for an insurance claim. Or the buyer being unhappy and possibly filling a paypal claim.

Soak it in mixture of hot water and a degreaser like purple power. Then rinse thoroughly with warm water. Let it sit out and dry or use some compressed air. Add 1 small drop of oil to a q-tip and run it around the inside of the bearing a few times.

Grease only goes on gears and some use it on sliding parts. I use a heavy oil on sliding parts. 1 drop of light oil on a q-tip will be enough to do your reverse bearing and the spool shaft tips.

Been looking at those myself for a few weeks now. I gotta sell my og zillion first or a rod or 2. Gotta keep things even.

Yes, it uses the smaller 'shallower' t wing that's been being on the current zillion tws models. Nobody has mentioned any issues that I can recall. It's what Daiwa has been using to replace grooved t wings from the current Tatula reels. The Tatula ct weighs 7.2 ounces. The mentioned msrp is $169

I really like the Tatula for the $90 you can buy it for. It's a great reel at that price. The way I palm my reels it's not too awkward for me. A slightly lighter and reshaped Tatula is okay by me. It's all these tws variants that I don't get. They released a new Steez sv and a 'zillion' sv103 but immediately followed those with tws variants. I have no problem with a reel having tws but it's not the revolutionary design they are proclaiming and it seems that is what they're using to push these reels on the public. It's still nice to see that Daiwa is trying to keep up with Shimano on new releases. Once these hit $100 I'll probably try one out.

The weight dropped a bit also. It's down around 7.2oz now. Swap out those bulky knobs and a carbon handle it'll be around 6.8oz.

Any reel you want will work fine. Pick one that offers the things you are looking for in a reel. Weight,cosmetics,handle length,line capacity,gear ratio ect ect. Jerkbaits are a slack line technique and most prefer a faster ratio that can pick up the line quickly.

Nothing specific in mind. Just use it whatever it'll work for. More than likely heavier t rigs and 3/8 jigs.

I gotcha... I never even noticed that. My Phenix recon 2 has that seat on it, and it's not terrible but I prefer the plain old fuji ecsm. Not sure of your budget but I have a DX 704 I'd part with.

The endurance series is better than the max series. I've owned them both. Still have 1 of each. The max 3d is supposed to be a touch better than the endurance series. The endurance is still my favorite rod $150 and below. Even better than some $180-200 rods I've owned. Head to head with the champion series I'd give the Dobyns a slight nod over the endurance. It's just a bit better feeling. Mainly due to it being lighter. Definitely a larger improvement over the max though. Just be aware that a 4 power champion is like a 3 power Powell. Since you enjoy your max already and it's been said the 3d max is an even better rod maybe look into one of them. I think they're also being discounted right now.

The nice thing about Boca is their customer service. If your bearing happens to experience any issues over time just call them. I've had 2 out of about 14 sets. I was sent a replacement free of charge. I've even received a few other free things from them over the years. Spool pin pliers being one of them.

So you are discrediting Mike's years of knowledge and experience with building and fishing all different types of rods. That makes total sense. I've gotten muddy enough, I'm done wrestling now. Good day,sirs.

That's where I aim to have all my combos balance at. With what's available today in terms of rods and reels I see no need to ever have to add additional weight to the butt. The weight of the coins or washers that people use and the rubber chair cap are heavier than people realize. I can swap a reel that's within 1oz of another and achieve what I prefer for balance.

None of the reels I own are over 7oz except 1 and the rest are under 7oz. So using a 6.5oz reel on a certain rod would balance it out better than using a 5.5oz reel. That's what I mean by using a heavier reel. You also aren't adding weight to the blank itself resulting in a loss of sensitivity. It's fishing so do whatever you feel is best for you. However, when a man who's built 1,000's of rods tells you it's a last resort and overall bad idea you still don't believe the facts.

Yes,totally with you there. My 7'11 H guide select with Cardiff 301 is not light by any means. In terms of general freshwater gear though we are on the same page.

And that's great if that's what you prefer but spreading misinformation around by saying to add weight the butt is not great. It's a last resort and should be avoided if at all possible. Have a nice day.

For those of you that keep mentioning about adding weight to the butt... Please take some time and look around on some of the rod building forums a bit and you will see that adding weight to a rod is the last thing that you would want to do. @Delaware Valley Tackle

How many off the shelf rods can you show me that balance right at the reel seat with no reel? We are talking normal bass rods. 6'6-7'6 medium - heavy power. For that neutral balance to happen you have to either move the reel seat up/down which then causes a longer/shorter handle length. Maybe Mike @DVT will chime in since he's built thousands of rods and could explain it better.
