I buy them to use. All my favorites are ready to go. Just have to decide which ones to take. That's the tough part.

I'm pretty far off from an expert. Barely even a rookie. For throwing a 5" senko I have the mag brake set on 1. This is using #16 sniper fc. Which we all know fluorocarbon isn't the easiest casting line. I have not tried throwing anything weighing 1/2oz + I've read the same type of thing before too. It's just too tame. I think I read mention of it being the magnets in the side plate. It's not the spool. I can toss it in another reel and it works great. I'd buy another Alphas over the ss.

I rarely touch my ss sv. It has the sv spool, but the braking on that particular reel is too much.

I use gamakatsu finesse wide gap in size 1-1/0.

I had power pro #40 spooled up when I took this video. It's equal to #10 mono. Specs on the 105 spool states it holds 90 yards of #10 mono. I don't know exactly how much line it holds. One day I'll walk the line off in my yard and pull out the 150ft tape measure. Then I'll have an exact number.

I have not owned an original Alphas. I do own a decent collection of Daiwa reels though. The new Alphas is just as good as any of them. It's a very impressive $200 reel. Especially considering the SV spool alone sells for $100. I would not hesitate to purchase another if I needed a reel. I won't say too much about Shimano 50 series reels. I've owned the Curado and the Chronarch 51e. I was never impressed with them. Even after the Ch51 was supertuned and the bearings upgraded to abec 7's.

It's light,casts well, and has the SV spool. All for under $200. Only gripe is the 80mm handle, but it's an easy fix. Throw a tatula handle on it.

With more practice/experience you will gain distance. 25 yards is fine. As already mentioned total distance doesn't mean much. I can spool my Alphas Sv on a cast using a 1/2 trap. It's not necessary at all. Putting in the right location is more important. Accuracy > distance

There is an evening tournament coming up here soon. It's on Lake Habeeb 'Rocky Gap' state park. Start time is 4:30. It was supposed to be last Saturday, but it was canceled due to the weather. I'll see if I can get you an exact date. $40 per team, and part of that is towards lunker.

Personally I don't think it would matter. I think most people cut it above the logo and send that entire section back. It's to prove you have the rod, and it's actually broke.

Yes, max drag is measured at lockdown.

Throughout the fishing season I don't back anything off. When I put my rods on the rack for the winter I back off the drag, and spool tension.

I've bough new and used reels from the U.S. and Japan. Never any issues. Asing as they have good feedback there's no need to worry.

2015 Alphas SV for $195

On my Ride 115x I used existing an existing bolt on the front, but just got a longer one. On the rear I bought a bolt,and some washer. Stainless of course. No drilling required. Search no drill anchor trolley. I just got a bunch of ideas and came up with something that worked for me. There's a good video from Austin Kayak on YouTube.

Auction site score. $76 plus $19 shipping. Won and paid for it Sunday night about 9:30. Was in my hands by 1pm today. Talk about service! Fuego 6:3:1 gear set was ordered Monday from Daiwa. Along with some other things for it. I had a spare Steez 100 spool laying around since I put an SV spool in mine. Should make a nice little reel. Plans to get it painted sometime soon.

My TD-Z was delivered today. Hard to pass it up for $95 shipped.
