  1. yeah, I've been using big hammer heads with my other rigs lots, they get hung on stuff ALL the time.
  2. So, I went to my local bait shop today and he was unloading these. I'd seen them before on youtube Thought they looked pretty good. So, I picked one up. I'm gonna pair it with Super Fluke Jr.s and a 1/0 EWG hook. I suppose you could put them on a swimbait head, but I don't like exposed hooks that much. I'll try them on some cranks too. Perfect timing too. I'd been seeing fish hit and couldn't get anything to bite under the schooling shad. I'll try this out maybe it'll work.
  3. One of my best days of fishing this year was on father's day. I went wading in the creek with my 3 y.o. (at the time) daughter. I probably caught 50 little sunfish. She loved it. She got to hold and play with each one. My next best day was a short 3 hour trip in my kayak where I caught a 3.5 lb LMB, a 6 lb lmb, a 3 lb stripe and a 5 lb stripe and a 17 inch brown trout plus some other trout and panfish. So, I like quantity if I'm with others who don't fish all the time. I don't think it's a question about quality for people who do fish all the time.
  4. I've got a Lews LH 6.4:1 with a Okuma CVX M/MF, 50 lb pp braid with 8 foot 12lb mono leader. I'd probably use fluoro if I didn't throw top water poppers and spooks all the time with it. The length of the leader could be shorter, but I don't like retying. This one only throws Shad raps, shallow shad raps, originals, flat raps, spook jr., zara puppy, rebel pop-rs and popping frogs on that rod. My second is a LH BPS Pro Qualifier 5.2:1 with BPS Cranking stick in MH/F, 50 lb pp braid with 8 foot 12 mono leader. This one throws flukes with underspins, swimbaits from 1/4 to 5/8, rat-l traps and other lipless and strike king XDs and DT raps.
  5. Hey! You live where I do!
  6. I'll be honest..... Boobies.
  7. As for someone who would never own a 'glass boat, I've got to ask, why no aluminum? All welded aluminum boats are the most durable boats you could buy.
  8. bigger one's have more action. i do use the tiny fluke 3" in narrow rivers.
  9. Veritas' break. I'd go St. Croix, Shimano or even Okuma at that price point. I like their warranty the best.
  10. ok, what the hell. Cancelled my transaction stating that it was "out of stock". They had "6 or more" last night and the auctions are still up.
  11. We've all had stuff break quickly. Hopefully this rod won't. My local tackle shop does Okuma stuff over the counter. I don't know how. I don't question it.
  12. If that's your budget get a Lews Speed Spool and a lightning rod shock in medium. It's easier to learn to cast a baitcaster on a decent rod with some flex than a really stiff one. Lightning rods are pretty nice and cheap to boot!
  13. I have. It and Berkley vanish. I was not impressed. #6 and #8. I pretty much just use that stuff for leaders now.
  14. I don't know if it's not kosher to do here, but a cursory Ebay search will turn up some of them in casting M and MH half off of the usual price. I bought a new Speed Spool this week and had been eyeing Okuma's for quite some time. Their medium EVX feels as good as any rod I've picked up in a while. I would've bought one that day, but dropping $250 over lunch on a whim wouldn't go over to well with the wife. Pretty sure they come with rod sleeves too. Hope it helps someone find a deal. I'm not associated with them at all either. Just spotted a deal while looking for one myself!
  15. to answer OP question further(now that I'm away from my iphone) I use a 5'6 light spinning reel setup for throwing in-line spinners. I use a 6'0 medium light spinning setup for throwing shallow crank baits. Mostly flat raps, husky jerks, shallow shadraps, 1.5s and bandits and them some squarebills. I use a 6'6 medium for throwing swimbaits and weighted flukes with swimbait heads or underspins. All use 6 or 8lb fluoro. As I said before, I fish tailwaters and rivers for trout in my kayak. Everything else is out of my boat. If I had to add anything else I'd add another 6'-6'6" medium for throwing jerkbaits exclusively.
  16. I gave up all my other spinning reels this year in favor of Pfleuger. I only have Presidents, President XTs and Supreme Xts. They are awesome. Smooth, quality craftsmanship and I just like their handling.
  17. hyper realism catches fisherman more than fish. I like the realism because they look like a crawfish, but at the same time, I think a large profile more vibration inducing craw, as long as it's the appropriate color, would catch just as many and probably more fish. The action on those sandeel double rig is amazing though.
  18. they make one of my favorite panfish/trout baits The mirror image shad and curly tail are the best small swimbait/jigs I've used.
  19. I fish tailwater trout out of my kayak. I usually take 3 rods from 5'6 to 6'6. Crankbait, Fluke/spoon, Spinner.
  20. I have average sized hands. Just 4 arms!
  21. I've fished that area lots. I always have good luck with Husky Jerks and Shallow Shad Raps.
  22. Well, if you see them doing it, they may be getting spooked by you or your boat too. I agree with everyone else. Change retrieve cadence or colors!
  23. My local Tackle shop doesn't carry Warmouth, but I just made an order!
  24. There is amazing fishing at Montgomery Bell parks. Same thing, electric only. Crappie are crazy there.
