  1. in the late afternoon start with a jig first before buzzin the place sunny afternoons easily spooked
  2. It was raining yesterday and I had one of the best days this month. I dont like fall for fishing but when a warm rain like yesterday rolls around, I'm out there.. was tempted to go out into this am's rain as well
  3. hollow frog is best hookups can be tricky punching jig otherwise
  4. Id largely agree.. and they dont have much facility to rationalize like us but I dunno that from instinct bass cant distinguish from built-in instinct types of overhead flight in the sky if I were bass I'd be more afraid of the circling raptors (hawks, eagles) I've seen other birds like cranes, pelicans, and herons who fly in a straighter pattern pick out bluegill but never any bass I could envision hawks or eagles taking on larger fish such as bass and trout though if a bass can pick me out on shore, I'd think they could pick out in clearwater flights of circling raptors overhead. it'd be interesting to see if bass are sighted in shallow waters when birds of prey are circling above..
  5. depends on the baitfish baitfish can move shallow for plankton well they move up at times in the water column anyway but can move shallow its not a given they will be in the creeks it depends on the body of water its another one of these sayings which is not applicable in all situations.. like the saying fall bassin is the best.. no for me friends.. spring is where its at
  6. X2 on jigs .. threw everything at em postfrontal the other week and the only thing hit was a jig worked super slow and hit without conviction I might add fall frontals are rough
  7. have 2 setups always ready with a small box its seen much use on casual drives always nice to catch bass in new waters
  8. I think bream would still be staging near the deep in fall but baby bream are still close to shore
  9. I didnt vote because.. it depends.. I use both
  10. Like most hypothesis, there are experiences which dont quite fit as an all-pervasive explanation such as seeing bass schools roaming only a few feet from shore in crystal clear water in less than a foot of depth in mid-afternoons and bright daylight I too believe in the raptor effect.. but I wouldnt say that bass are always on the watchout for raptors under all conditions
  11. why not throw it back, make a replica and catch it later on after it packed on another 9 ounces?
  12. At one point I also thought the clips were the way to go til I lost one on a clip. Look at a clip and you can see with a fish thrashing around, the line or split ring could enter the exit arm of any clip I lost a fish on a clip and I lost a walking lure as well.. it was thrashing around topwater walkin and must have worked its way out
  13. Easy: Daiwa Aird 7'6 Flippin Rod IM6 Can be had for under $50 nowadays.. used to be $70+
  14. Yea there are times where topwater/wakin it just isnt going to cut the butter
  15. If it works why mess with it. Unless it gets boring then you can just upsize that type of bait and go for broke
  16. I usually catch more than double my yield fishing from boat than on land.. but I still shorefish more cause its less hassle and I still catch enough fish to be happy. I definitely lose more fish on my boat though..
  17. I'd have these on permanently in the fall: alabama rig spinnerbait
  18. See the rain ripples on the picture to the left? I make it a point to fish fronts. As long as there is no lightning, I am out there in heavy rain or wind.. By this I mean bank fishing.. (I wouldnt go out in a boat in adverse conditions) update: heh I just went out in the front this morning and they were liberally biting nothing huge.. biggest 15"
  19. I went with a spool of Tatsu dont think I need to go elsewhere though I had not tried the other lines plenty of leader on that spool.. one buy and the problem is solved on that front you can get it on sale at times.. last year TW had a ridiculous clearance sale on Tatsu.. pair a discount with that and its a no brainer Tatsu is tough but I've broken it off many times so please dont have any crazy ideas about it being a dream line.. its a good fluoro but its still fluoro
  20. For your finesse presentations ie..jig .. yes For most others, not really unless you are fishing in clearwater. Yes I know some guys will say they catch fish in clearwater with braid.. but were they using a jig or plastic worm or buzzing thru with a crank? sure but it could be the difference between catching 1 fish in clearwater and catching 10 or 20. Catching 1 fish is still catching fish I suppose but wouldnt you want percentages behind you than against? There is a reason they made mono clear.. there is a reason they made fluro.. fish under certain conditions can be spooked by seeing your line. You can circumvent this in certain ways but not in all ways, if a fish is spooked by seeing a line he is conditioned to associate with being caught then you are at a great disadvantage. This would be especially true of older and more experienced fish.. bigger fish There are other benefits of a fluoro leader esp on braid as well.. one is to act as a shock leader..but be very wary of the knot
  21. If Im getting bites, I stay a while and work it thoroughly otherwise I go with a plan I set previously or adjusted on the water If I have no bites or if I'm after a big bite.. I could move after a few minutes or 30 minutes depending on the spot in the lake and the season and conditions as to your question.. depends on the spot you hate to leave a spot full of fish who arent biting just because you didnt give them exactly what they wanted
  22. Heh..I said its alot.. its not all or is it?
