what's a good rod for pitching jigs? at least 7 ft. and med heavy. sensitive.  mostly pitching into brush piles and fallen trees. will be using copolymer maybe fluorocarbon. 1/2 oz jigs.  maybe an extra fast option.

Under 50, Probably store branded rods, DSG, BPS, Berkley Lightning Rods are getting a little chatter on the forums here.. Maybe ugly sticks?

this is the price range of rods i'm educated in cuz I've owned many.berkley cherrywood is nice,lightning rod is more sensitive but I don't care for the reel seat.used the cherrywood as a back up rod today(cause my ugly stik lite finally gave up the ghost Monday boat swinging a 2lb.) &could feel the tail on my havoc grass pig paddling back&forth(caught an 8lb on it today too!  ) ugly stik is ok,dont have experience with the new gx2s though.used an original as my crappie rod & was feeling SOME bites in 30ft.of water.if you go ugly stik try the lite its MUCH better.hope this helps

I agree. Even though I use mine for moving baits,  from time to time I have used them for jigs/worms/etc... and have had no problems with bite detection, feeling cover, etc... The Abu Vengeance is also a good rod for $50. Lots of decent choices in this price range now.

For a few bucks more, check out the Shimano Sellus. I'm a pretty big fan of my 6'10" MH F "Spinnerbait" rod.

 

Slightly OT, but does the inclusion of a braid rating alongside the traditional line rating signify a sort of nod of the head from the manufacturer that the rod was built somewhat with braid in mind? I'm always a little paranoid of throwing braid on my rods that don't give such a rating, but Shimano in particular gives mono(/fluoro) and PowerPro rating on most of their rods, it seems. I know they own PowerPro, but it gives me a little bit of peace of mind knowing that at least my rod is supposedly rated for 50lb braid.

 

Yeah yeah, I know that's what drag settings are for. Just wondering.

I picked up a 7ft MHF Berkley Lightning Shock at my local Walmart for $30.  I threw an Abu Garcia Silver Max on it and I use it for flipping.  I've heard good and bad about the rods, but I haven't had any issues.

 

It's not the lightest on the market, or the most sensitive, but for $30 you can't beat it IMO.

Academy Ethos rods go on sale for $40 pretty often, great rods even at full price though. I own 8 of them now

People have said it already but I'd check out the lightning rod.

I don't have the shock version but the regular model and it has done me well as an all purpose rod.

If you look hard enough, you can find abu vertitas rods in the $50 range. 

If that was my budget, I'd probably go with a Berkley Lightning Rod.

Try to find a sale on the old veritas. Cabelas had them for $40 a few months ago.

My response has always been the Lightning rod because that is one I have.  Have been discussing another rod with a friend.  His latest remarks included this statement.  "For $50 bucks you can get a Cabelas fish eagle 50, they are head and shoulders better than the lightning rod..."  May have to pick up one next time I am at Cabela's.  He hasn't given me any bad recommendations yet, and I have purchased 3 different lines of rods based on his suggestions.

I was looking at those a few days ago on there. I never used one but I bet there are a pretty decent rod. they were like half off or something and selling for like $39.99. I would of bought one but they didn't have the rod I wanted. That might be the best rod of the suggestions if they are still on sale.

If you have a BPS, Cabela's, or Gander Mtn., near you, take a ride to the store and handle the rods in your price range yourself.  Whichever one 'feels' best to you is likely the best one for your needs.  Specs can get you in the ball park of what you want, but overall I'd say rod performance is very subjective.

Went to gandermountain yesterday I settled on a gandermountain gsx tournament series in 7 ft. Mh. Got it for 49.99 originally 99.99. I think pretty alright deal. Super light. Good backbone. Just hope the durability is alright. Gonna be using this for jigs.this is actually my first 7 ft rod. I'm liking it so far. Thanks for everyone's opinion.
