  1. Ya I'd hate to borrow and then snap someone's already-nicked St Croix rod.. makes them mad and makes me wonder..
  2. Though a spinnerbait is highly effective, for a beginner I'd go with a senko or a fluke and just throw that around exclusively.. learn some patience working the bait esp now that were in summer

Lemme know if you catch her again in that same area.. I find they are territorial Congrats again on a great fish!
  4. A really good photo or photos and measurements & weight imo is good enough replica good if yer into that stuff but with those photos if you want a replica made you could at any time she gets to live another day, perhaps have hundreds of babies who grow up big like her and you may get to catch her again or her big babies later on and others like yer kids may get to hook into them as well bringing smiles to more people
  5. braid is needed to set the frog hook as it has no stretch compared to mono hollow frog hookups are problematic and kudos to you if you can use mono and get the job done but I dont see how it can be done effectively without losing fish esp with long casts and in the thick stuff the amount of pressure transmitted to the hookset via mono after the long stretch and potentially with weeds as obstruction drops dramatically compared to braid

Great fish! At what depth was she caught?
  7. Spinnerbaits when transitioning to fall
  8. My friend you gave away one of my bank secrets as well .. Cast from bank approach if the clearance allows The fish near the bank can detect if you come too close so this tip will bag you several more bank fish per outing Enjoy guys he did u a favor and yes absolutely wear green and brown if your backdrop is the woods and silence is of the essense.. dunno how many kids ask me for tips and I say.. first stop yappin so loud gotta think and act like hunters.. approach like hunters
  9. Rapala X-walk 13
  10. then I'd say 1.5lb anchor is good enough I'd suggest 2 .. one for starboard .. one for aft .. so you dont drift-rotate when you are casting
  11. It really depends on how heavy a swimbait rod.. the lighter swimbait rods, yes I have a 8' heavy swimbait rod and yes I tried flipping and spinnerbaiting with it.. can you do it .. yes but its a real chore as it cant sling the spinnerbaits as far or as accurately its a bit too stiff for supercontrol in flip situations it will fling the 1+oz musky spinnerbaits I use well tho so when I upside on spinnerbaits its my stick
  12. Saw a Veritas at Dicks and was thinkin to myself it looked like a good froggin rod.. looks just like my Daiwa
  13. Its been a while since i ate a bass but I recall when I was younger my mother said the smaller bass 12" size were better tastin
  14. I always thought scatter occurs when its retrieved faster when I retrieve slow there is very little hunting Either way, I saw and interview with KVD where he said they built his cranks so that they are more unpredicatably wobbling.. sounds alot like an attempt at scatter to me.. I think scatter rap scatters much better than KVD but only at higher retrieve speeds and its not really a higher retrieve speed per se.. its a quicker retrieve almost a sudden off-speed quicker jerk retrieve which starts a scatter
  15. Trust me it started real slow.. but I was bank fishing so I cycled the usual suspect lures and moved along til I found where some were holdin' BTW, I find post frontal to be productive given patience.. less people around to to have ruffled the bass feathers before you Somewhere in the lake are hungry fish!
  16. Ya was kind of why I returned it to the water w/o doing more honors..I really didnt want to deal with arguing w/people wanting to keep the fish
  17. Yea I noticed that afterwards.. was in a bit of a rush to get her back in the water She had room to pack alot more pounds on
  18. Thanks a bunch.. I'll do as prescribed!
  19. Yea but if someone really wants it and theres a locked one and an unlocked one.. which ones gonna go? In this day and age you need to lock everything down
  20. More evidence fish bite throughout the day
  21. hook style anchor 3 lb anchor is enough but its kinda heavy to be carrying around 1.5 lb is better but it may be borderline ineffective in current
  22. Ya its tough when yer catch and release and someone asks to keep yer fish.. Must admit I thought about it for a split second and considered it but its a 6lb fish and state record is 10.. and I just dont know if they get any bigger than this in this particular body of water so it needs to live to spawn. There is no way I will be a part of possibly a lake's biggest fishes being someone's dinner.
  23. Why is mine not working like this? Also this vid shows the action in slow motion.. is it being burned fast? I usually run my swimbaits slow.. is this meant to be run faster? Should I add a belly hook perhaps it add more weight to the underside for stability? The one I have kind of wobbles more than this.. I'd really like to nail a bass on this lure..
  24. Been out on canoe recently and killing the fish but was fishing banks this morning post frontal Started slow and was catching nothing .. as usual I was trying to figure out both the smaller fish and where the big fish were holding under these specific conditions. Nothing for over an hour cycling thru my usual lures and alil dispair set in Then finally an 19" on spinnerbait followed by an 18" on plastics and a smaller 16" on spinnerbait. Was about to head home when I detected something obnoxiously busting weeds surface on an adjacent cove.. looked like maybe a turtle. Moseied over and a few minutes working a frog and looked like nothing was happening and slammo!.. all of a sudden the fight was on with a 22" 6 pounder.. could feel the weight of her on the rod going parabolic and the drag slipping and what seemed like 10 pounds of weeds in tow Eventually towed her out, calmed her down a bit, and put her on scale and pulled the scale measuring tape.. was about to put her down for a more accurate measure and a pic when couple of spaniards took notice from afar and motioned with spanish they'd like to keep the fish and started their way over. Being a catch and release guy there was no way I'm letting a 6 pounder get eaten.. let her quickly go and was on my way down the trail before they showed up.. wouldve liked more time with the big gal but its better she made like dodge quickly.. hopin for a future date. It was a pain to extract a pic out of my phone's video clip.. jez technology..
