Hot and windy for the most part. We were only out about 4 hours and not the most productive time of the day. We got four, largest was shy of 2. Three on plastic - holding very tight to laydowns. One by pulling a crank across a point.

Decided to put in at BRM. Plan to go down towards splits from the launch. wish us luck

Where you headed? Wife and I are trying to decide whether to take the yaks to Burke, Pohick, Belvoir, BRM, or ORP.

What's a youtube? Stupid fishing shows aren't limited to the interwebs....tried watching NBC Sports the other day...Sweet Water or something...lousy.....I'd have been better off watching MikeyBallz or even a Scott Martin Challenge

How did it feel to you? Even if limited experience, your impressions with it in your hands are probably going to be worth a lot more than a stranger's experience with a $20 rod.

I'm a fan of the ned rig and use it...maybe too often. But, as much as I appreciate elaztech for that application, I have a lot more trouble overlooking the shortcomings than the rest of you here. The inability to play well with other plastics is serious to me, and the cause of some big messes... but not the greatest sin. The fact that I need crazy glue and or a lighter in order to keep a TRD on a mushroom head KEEPER for more than two casts is sometimes more trouble than I am willing to put up with. Half a drop too much crazy glue and the paint on the head melts...not to mention my fingers getting glued to the head; and to each other. Try the lighter method and you find that hot lead and/or hot steel hooks burn skin. I still use zman for ned rigs, but all the rest of my elaztech is now in the basement bag labeled 'stuff that doesn't work or isn't worth using'.

Agree with all of this. Might even increase it to 40 braid. Will be good for your applications, will be relatively easy to work with. Long bombing casts are your enemy....smooth casting is your friend...smooth backswing, smooth follow through....work on smooth and you'll be good. Very nice 'starter rig'

I could have written most of the same....I will say, however, that since she got her own kayak a few weeks ago, it is hard to keep her off the water. There was a day last summer when she pulled out a buzzbait and tied it on around 1PM. She'd never used one before and I didn't say a thing as she casted it and let it drop into a laydown and slow rolled it back like a spinner bait. Second cast, she boated a 3 pounder - big fish of the day....I learned long ago the nuances of teaching...and of letting her figure out what works. I will NEVER tell her 'that's not how to fish that lure'...LOL

Maybe I tie it wrong, but on larger baits, I too, end up with a much longer tag than with other knots...bigger the bait; bigger the tag

I'm down to just four...still need to simplify, I suppose: Leader: Alberto; Braid: Palomar; SD Jam: All other lines to lure..I'm a recent convert and completely sold on this one .....except on rare occasions for jerk/dog walkers: Rapala (loop knot)

Hope I don't insult, but my first two immediate thoughts: 1. Why not get one of each and find out? And 2. You're talking about a swim jig..which will most likely be moving when a bass sees it....I find it hard to imagine that such subtle difference in color could possibly make a difference in a chuck-and-wind presentation. I think I'm settling with no. 2.

Good advice, but hard to do with new $5 lure. Get yourself a lure retriever - any type...try a search here for some recommended ones. It will give you a LOT more confidence to throw those trebles into trouble...knowing there's a good chance of getting a snagged lure back. Once you get past that 'fear', you'll be putting that crank where the fish are.

I've read that it can be effective. I've never tried it -- I guess I feared that I'd get have line fouled in a hook every time and not know it until retrieved.

I still have a few jars of pork. But, the challenge of getting them off a hook (even before dry) is enough to send me to plastic most days.

YOL, fortunately, that's a pretty easy fix (and all too common problem.) ANY time that you pull hard on a snag or fight in a fish with tight drag...make sure that you take a good look at your spool and/or pull off some line to reel it back in and get a nice even lay. Also fortunately, while terribly annoying, it is hard to backlash when the line is smashed down and dug in

I'm going to suggest something a little different. I think that by doing the 'normal' thing and trying to get a very good reel and a very good rod both for under $150..or $100....or whatever your budget is....consider getting a $100 reel and a $50 rod....or a $50 reel and a $100 rod. My thinking is that there are very few rods or reels well under $100 that are going to be satisfactory to you after a few months or a year of use. There's exceptions out there, but, by and large, I think most folks will tell you that you'll want to upgrade a $75 rod or reel before too long. However, I see $100 as sort of a fairly solid threshold for both rods and reels. That point can be argued at great length, but I don't think you'll be disappointed with a decent (better?) reel (or rod) now paired with a 'lesser' component that you can upgrade in 6 months or a year and have a 'good combo' instead of settling for the next half year and looking to replace both. ...not a strong suggestion, just something to consider

Sounds like a backlash. Yes? No? Something else? If so, I disagree with all of above post. Don't cut it out yet....and DO continue to use backing, if you choose. If it isn't a backlash, you may need to explain a bit more what you've got there

I disagree. Lose the noise, and the surveillance capability and maybe we'll be a little closer to agreement. You don't have to be physical danger to my person to be invasive, not to mention rude and offensive.

Will do. Itinerary for mid-June still a little squishy....but I should be in the area - on Cheatham - in two weeks....will probably be free on 17, or more likely 18 for fishing without the wife (and in-laws.) We absolutely love Jones. Many of our weekend getaways are to the CAX quarters or cabins and 3 days on Jones...maybe a side trip to Penniman, but mostly Jones.
