Out of curiosity, why do you ask? What will you do when you get them 'ranked' by 'us'?

I enjoy the confidence of fishing open hooks, but it just isn't feasible most of the places I fish. I cross my fingers and dip a ned rig every once in a while. And last weekend, I fished an exposed shakey head. Immediately caught a LMB....and but lost the jighead only minutes later. With little wood or weeds, I'd fish exposed hooks a LOT more.

I'm 53 and winding up my first season with a kayak, and I love it. And most of the time I'm fishing from it, I'm wishing I were in a boat. Off the top of my head.... Cons: -Loading and unloading to/from top of full size SUV gets old. Especially that last unload at the end of the day. -Get pretty stiff after 3 or 4 hours without getting out/standing up -Can't/won't stand up - fishing from low, seated position is challenging for me. I still can't throw a jig confidently....at least nothing like flipping from a boat; nor do I even bring the really deep gear (7'8"H, 1oz c-rigs, 10XD, etc.) -I find it hard to go out with less than 4 rods and no matter where I put them, how I store them....there's always one or more in the way - on the backswing, or in the forward rod holder limiting side casting, or laying out the front blocking hatch...etc. -Casting angles are nearly ALWAYS compromised. Watch any kayak fisherman for more than a few minutes and you're going to see that wacky looking 'twisted arm, back-over-the-shoulder lob cast" -Wind blows. -Current blows, too. -Retrieving lures from trees - above and below can be much more difficult than from a boat -Lack of near constant control that you get from a trolling motor -- you get in perfect position and if winding or any current, you may only get one cast from the perfect boat position before you have to put a paddle in the water again. -I can't take 8 rods, two duffle bags, a backpack and two tackle boxes -I can pizz off the wife because of the flexibility and being able to get out nearly every day -Can't take the wife along -Limited as to the height of branches/bridges I can go under with rods standing in crate rod holders...have to skip/go around/or lay the rods down -Changing lures is more challenging for me in the kayak -Taking a leak is a whole new challenge from a yak -Probably the biggest 'issue' for me is that at the end of the day, I nearly always feel that I spent way too much paddling compared to fishing Pros: -$$$$ -I can store it easily behind my garageless townhouse -I don't have to worry about how I'm going to charge batteries (at my garageless townhouse -- or at some electricity-deprived storage lot) -I can put in at beaches, ponds, creeks, etc, that I'd never consider putting a boat in -I can put it on the car in the morning before work and stop on the way home and put in for a couple/few hours -I can't take 8 rods, two duffle bags, a backpack and two tackle boxes -Wife is happier because I will probably only be gone for ~6 hours....if I'm in a boat, its more like 15 -Fishing alone

It was 64 degrees on Friday with light wind. Would have been nuts to be doing anything other than fishing....and certifiable to have gone shopping.

I started with blood, mostly because it looked like one I could do with confidence --- I'm not very dextrous. I tried albright for a bit, but messed up a couple of times and have since settled on alberto. I can do it even in a boat, even with my fumble-fingers. I'm confident both in my ability to tie it and in the knot's ability to stand up to anything I can dish out. It goes through micro guides extremely well and has never failed me.

Each time I look at the listing, I see something I missed before...toss in the PFD, the roof rack, the FF.....etc, it is looking better all the time.

Not a bad deal. I came close to buying a gently used 135 off Craigslist about a year ago. I hesitated after I went and looked it over - and after I tried to lift it. I ended up finding a new Tarpon 100 (w/paddle, rod holders, flag, etc.) from a local dealer for under $500 at a mid-winter sale. Glad I did. I'm not as young as I was when I was younger Putting the Tarpon on my Montero and Durango is pretty close to my max. I'd love that 135, but for me, I'd probably need a trailer.

-Tried to look it over while I pretend to work, but I can't. Don't know if something has changed in my work's filters/screening, or if changes to your site have caused red flags by my IT. -Took very quick tour with my phone. I like the (new?) mobile layout. -Honestly, I never had a whole lot of problems with your site. Easily my biggest pet peeve had nothing to do with layout, functionality, etc. It is the basic jig descriptions. Every one read the same....this is an excellent all-around jig for brush and for fishing and weeds you can use it in the water.....maybe exaggerated a little...sorry I know that jig styles and uses can be VERY subjective...and you don't want to tell someone NOT to buy a certain style that might work for them. But, I think that novices like me need to have it explained in plain language how an arky is going to differ from a football once its bouncing around cover or rocks, etc. -One other peeve that doesn't look different at first blush is that when I'm on a particular item, I no longer get the left pane that will navigate to different items. I never liked the jumbled list in the horizontal green box above. My personal preference is a left pane with either a vertical list, or perhaps even a drop down list that I can navigate to quickly.

Even with pictures, I'm a little slow. Maybe I need a video instead....this is the part I have trouble with: ".....push and pull down on the hookeye so the hook turns and . . ..rolls out below the gill toward the side of the fish" I have been successful, but felt like it was accidental...for some reason, it never is clear in my memory when I have the fish in hand.

Last years seems like just yesterday. Made for a nice way to spend a winter day. I particularly enjoyed Jacob Poznowronacaziak (sp???) , Davey Hite, and even Bobby Uhrig. I was also pleased to discover Daves Tournament Tackle, with which I've done more business throughout the year.

I suppose 'scam' might be too strong a word...but buying it now...with a plan to return it.....so you can get more discount than anyone else...all the while ensuring that the vendor doesn't have access to that reel to sell to someone not playing games....just doesn't sit well with some of us. Was a period in my youth where we used jigs 90% of the time for walleyes. Often swimming them, but dragging, too. Most of the time, I felt that they preferred more agressive moving baits, but certainly not always.

I already registered. Says its for a year and they'll email a reminder at 10 or 11 months. There is conflicting info on their site about exactly who needs to do it. But, its clear that if you buy a saltwater license, you don't need to. I only buy freshwater, but I do fish tidal Potomac, so I just went ahead and did it. It is free, so why not....

'It depends' is probably the best answer. Depends on the fish...the fish's experiences, age, etc....depends on the noise...steady or stacatto or single loud bang or off/on/off/on trolling motor and electronics...I am sure there are times like mentioned above when a certain noise got bass curious and maybe more 'catchable'. But, I also am sure that less noise is generally better than more noise. I gotta think that as you're running into a shallow back bay, you're going to increase your odds by turning off the TM and electronics....and not dropping the pliers....Maybe the numbers will be the same, but I suspect that the bigger, older, wiser, bass are going to be a little harder to catch when the noise coming from you and your boat is greater.

Thanks, Wayne. No. I'd never heard of the FIP. I've fished the shores and piers of the tidal Potomac and Occoquan for a number of years and it never entered my consciousness. This year, in a kayak, I suppose it's even more 'important.' This line on DGIF seems to make the requirement awfully inclusive: "Adult anglers who fish for anadromous or marine species in freshwater must also register." Seems that covers every lake, pond, creek and catch-basin in the state.

Which zip lock bag thing did you try? Ever since I went to zip locks, I couldn't be happier. I have 5-7 one-gallon zip locks in a backpack. One has senkos, one has soft swimbaits, another with beavers/creatures, one with jig trailers, one with zman ned worms, one just for Cut-R's, one for finesse......etc. ....well, maybe I have about 9 one-gallon ziplocks....but it is still far better than anything I had before.

I'd like a calendar with no December, January, or February.

Typical day on the water yesterday....two good fish on a craw colored red-eye shad and then, BAM...straight into a tree - 15 feet out of reach. I got to thinking....I haven't owned a lure type that hasn't found a tree...or at least an overhanging bush. But lipless cranks...man...they just sail soooo nice....and trees love 'em! If I visit your lake, what lures that you previously owned would I find in the overhanging tree branches?

Thanks for the video! I too generally put paddle-tail style plastic on swimjigs. I use Yamamoto swimbait, Megastrike Fat Shad, Larew Sweet Swimmer. I used to use SK caffeine shad, but I've found that I prefer the three above. I haven't tried the cane thumper, but that's on my wishlist.

I've never been a member of a fishing club, nor been in a tournament....so, my opinion aint worth much.... But, if it were me, I'd be checking into Heroes on the Water, Reel American Heroes and the Irish Water Dogs group. I don't know a lot about any of them, but I think they probably all started with someone who had your same idea/vision. Maybe one of them has a local affiliate.
