  1. How many of you who have expressed outrage have written your elected representatives on this issue? Not just Californians - this is a US bill...? I'm a fan of states' rights, however, this bill was introduced by Boxer and Feinstein - So, IMO, the problem is more like a case of National representatives using their Federal seats to circumvent their own state's rights. Subtle difference, but I blame the individuals involved more than the entire institution. I don't live in CA, but shouldn't there be an option to fish elsewhere?
  2. PMO, you need to work on that. There's this look I've been working on and almost have it down....it is difficult because to really work in your favor it needs to incorporate a VERY subtle transition: pause the tv, and then display a look that says, not quite "Wow" (because that would be transparently disengenuous), but "I'm engaged and more or less interested in what you're saying", but if it goes on for more than about 7 or 8 seconds, it will pay you great dividends to transition to this certain look that is short of "I stopped listening long ago and couldn't care less", but "I get it - I hear ya, I understand and feel for you, but I'm close to being done with this...but I really do almost care what you have to say" Takes years to get it down, but worth the trouble to work on it.
  3. I can't speak for Ike, but for me, its because I don't have confidence that those 'last-resort' baits are going to land me the biggest fish that I come across. Most of my casts are optimistically targeting the biggest bass within a 100 yards.
  4. "Forget it Jake. Its Chinatown." I've been fascinated by Southern California water ever since I first saw that movie. Not much luck in getting a truly rational discussion out there, I'm afraid.
  5. When things are slow, if I haven't already dismissed them, I'm probably going to be trying a ned rig, a fluke, a lipless crank and a trick worm. In moving water, an inline spinner and/or a smaller soft swimbait. Lately, one of my 'last resort', more or less sure-thing is a 3-3/12" paddletail (usually Larew or Keitech) on an Owner finesse ballhead hook. Doesn't get attention from the bigger bass, but will nearly always get bit.
  6. Where can I find the text of this bill? The only S1894 I found was a US Senate CA drought bill...which is also a bit crazy, IMO, but I don't think its the same one referred to here.
  7. 27 years in the Navy....most of it on ships and I never once got seasick....but that video nearly makes me queasy. My hat's off to those guys.
  8. I like the idea. Hooks in the socks are one of my biggest problems....along with the negative buoyancy issue However, I'm not sure that's the solution for me...since I have hook-keepers below the reel on a couple rods....Also, I get hooks in past the barb on them as often in the middle...usually in bottom of the boat...than I do at the hook-keeper/reel.
  9. I know nothing about your area. But as a first-year kayak fisherman, the best advice I can give you is take a rod or two, some tackle and just get out and do it. This is one activity that reading about and watching videos just doesn't do it justice. You need to get on the water, paddle around and start casting. Unless you're both experienced at fishing AND experienced at kayaking, you're going to have to get used to the limited space, mobility, etc. If you're mostly looking for specific lures, etc, you're going to have to provide a lot more info, I'm afraid.
  10. Barlows has shorter ribbontails and good color selection. Worst case, maybe pearl/silver flake and a jar of JJ's?
  11. I've got 4 or 5 different brands. The only thing that differentiates is that the BPS ones blow. The others are pretty much interchangeable. If you're on the edge of two different sizes, I suggest go with the shorter one. Too short is not a problem. Too long is a problem.
  12. I suggest checking out the Shenandoah. My wife and I drive out to Front Royal Canoe a number of times a year. For less than $50, you can rent a canoe or kayak, get dropped off or picked up and float a few miles of some great smallmouth waters. I've never had much luck on Brittle....at all. As to bank fishing, things can be a challenge in the area; but I admit I'm not familiar with the small waters around there.
  13. Siebert Storm Series Brush head in 'Roadwarrior' color.

Don't recall who, but someone here linked these before. I got a couple and am very happy with them. I use with my Fish Grip. http://www.ebay.com/itm/20g-40Kg-Pocket-Digital-Scale-Electronic-Hanging-Luggage-Balance-Weight-/171155983110?pt=US_Pocket_Digital_Scales&hash=item27d9b10b06
  16. Appears to be Yo-Zuri's parent company. I'm interested to read reviews. I've struggled to love Yo-Zuri hard baits. I have a number of them -- beautiful....but they never seem to be as productive as alternatives.
  17. I don't have big abrasion problems; I don't worry much about how the fish react to seeing my line; I rarely consider very long about the bouyancy of my line. I use leaders on some of my outfits for one primary reason: the braid I've spooled on a reel will last me for years since I'm just replacing leader material and not chopping off a piece of braid every re-tie.
  18. What kind of line are you using? The discussions here usually regard use of mono/flouro/copoly leader attached to braid main line....for variety of reasons. If you're not using braid, there may be no reason for any leader at all....if you're mostly fishing for bass.
  19. If you're of the 'match-the-hatch' persuasion, I suppose you're now throwing t-rigged soccer balls.
  20. I won't argue with anything said above. But, I'm curious about the 'middle, shallow' parts. The fact that you didn't see fish there doesn't mean there weren't any. I was on a small lake/big pond on Saturday after a 'dramatic' cold front. By far, the best bite was in the shallowest parts - using lipless cranks. Lake is very clear, but I only 'saw' two legal fish swimming around. Caught a bunch of invisible ones, though.
  21. Ha! Funny. The guy who said "Don't bother with a tourniquet" (me) is a 27 year vet...
  22. I was thinking, maybe bluegill, also. Not sure about their actual disposition, but I've had 5 inch bluegills smack 8 inch worms hard enough for me to think it was a multi-pound bass. But, I think my testicles are safe....I now must vote for Pacu...and find a way to erase that mental image....thanks, Tom
  23. I always separate Rage Tail stuff..to me, Rage Tail is about the motion...if I want it subtler, I'll throw something else.
