Trying to buy a nice kayak
Agree that you will be looking for a used yak. I see them on Craigslist sometimes. But I where I usually see used 'fishing kayaks' is on FB. I will bet there are half a dozen group pages of kayak fishermen in your area. Join a couple/few and keep an eye open.

Oh my. I missed that. Such a great guy. Al Wolbach was another from that area that we lost who I miss on here.

Other Species Latest Catch Pics Thread
Other than topwater, I don't think I have thrown a lure in the Potomac that hasn't caught a catfish. Blues (and flathead) will eat anything. I catch bullheads in NC on Senkos all the time....but maybe those don't count, because I'm not sure bullheads know they are catfish.

No doubt. After 13 years, I cancelled my subscription last month

Anyone install Livescope to an Old Town Autopilot?
I say call them. Most of these smaller mod companies are great to work with and more than willing to talk about how to make best use of their stuff

Home repairs. I wish I had more knowledge in the matter.
Haha...similar here. Put off a small plumbing job for months because I convinced myself the risk was too great....and that it needed a professional. Had a plumber for unrelated water heater job....asked him to look at the other and he did it in about 35 seconds...lol. At least he didn't charge more labor for that

have you caught a bass on all your rod combos?
Tie a Ned on it
-
What should I use each of my rods for
Backing is only so that braid doesn't slip around the spool. (And it means you can use less braid to get to a full spool.) You can use a piece of electrical or painters tape on the spool to prevent slipping....or you can tie through the holes in the spool. Any non-braid line will do what you need. Whatever old line you have around works. Backing and leaders are the only reasons I don't get too mad when I end up with a spool of fluoro with 20 yards left.

Large reservoirs mid lake, north , or south end
No. But, does your question change if the south end is the upper end? Not that my answer changes....just curious.

Starting a garden
This our first year with a big garden. Lots of work, but it's actually fun working it with my wife. Cleared the beds last fall. No tiller, but previous owner had a garden there years ago, so we weren't starting from scratch. Mostly garden rakes and pick ax. We started composting last year to get ready. I'm pretty surprised how little compost the two of us can generate. So we added a few bags of cow manure in March. Also, last fall, built a 7 foot deer fence, which has been great, since there's deer in the yard daily. Got a cheap irrigation system from Amazon which is also great. We started cucumbers, tomatoes and herbs indoors. Corn, cabbage, watermelon, snap peas, carrots all seeded directly in the garden. Exciting to see stuff come up and harvesting some already. I won't say that we're going to save money on food when all is said and done, but I will say it's well worth it. I don't know if it works for all weeds or on a large scale, but I killed all weeds for a small garden years ago by covering the plot with black plastic for about 6 weeks. Worked great.

+1 ^^ Kistler Helium 7'3" HMH A reel. If it were me, I'd get a Quantum Smoke S3 from ebay and use the remaining $30 for line.

Tips for MCAS Fishing Pond
Looks pretty small. Should be able to cast to any part of the pond. Good luck. My only advice is if it is great.....keep it on the down low.... lol....lots of really good base ponds all over the country....but don't tell anyone I said so

Judging casting or target distance
Even if you can perfectly cast 20 yards on the surface, the pendulum effect is so hard to estimate, even with spinning rods. I generally try for what I feel will be about 5 yards long and work back through the target. Doesn't help much if their focus is up and hitting on the drop... but probably 90% of the time, I am working from the bottom.

But I Was Fishing For Bass
I don't bring them into the kayak. I use grips and jaw spreaders and pliers alongside the yak. @TnRiver46, they are a lot like bowling. Biggest difference to me is that when I get a bowfin bite, I have mistaken it for a bass. Snakeheads always seem to hit like a truck...no matter if it's a frog or chatterbait or a worm....they grab and GO

I was always fascinated by Pyramids as a kid. Bass Pro Shop?!!
Seen it from I-40 a few times. Never had the urge to stop. I have to be in the mood for a frustrating shopping experience before I decide to stop at BPS.

Favorite casting jigs
If you are throwing into wood, the one @roadwarrior posted, or the Dredge Brush. I suggest trying a few different ones from Siebert and see what suits your style and gear. For me, the most important factor is usually how it comes through heavy brush. But i also have some dock skippers, arkies, and others. You may find you prefer an Arkie, or maybe lighter hook that penetrates better. Gotta try a few to really learn. Reading about the differences doesn't do it for me. I need to see them in the water and fish them.

Jerkbaits in the summer time?
I use them all summer, but mostly in pretty specific situations. Whenever I graph fish on big points up off the bottom from 5 to about 15 feet from the surface, I like a jerkbait. Traps and cranks work, too, but I like the ability to pause in mid-column

Frustration on the Range. Golf.
I realized about ten years ago that there was no way I could fish and golf. So I haven't been to a range in a long while, but it doesn't surprise me. Your rant isn't a lot different than so many threads about rude fishermen. You probably had a huge covid surge in golf....I'll bet there's a million idiot instasnaptok posts of kids doing stupid crap on the course and range....Top Golf bills itself not as a swing improvement facility, but an 'Entertainment Destination' .... and well, lots of people just suck nowadays....but back in my day.....

Probably my biggest Ned fish. I don't use it much at all on the water, but from the dock or bank, I'm more likely to go smaller and or slower.

Going to be busy-ER on Cayuga
Amazing fish. And the thing stuck with me from that link was June 15, "first day of New York bass season". I grew up in a state with fishing seasons, but having lived further south for many years now, it seems like an odd concept.
