Anyone use an SI unit on a jonboat?
By the way, I blame you for putting the SI bug in my head. That screen on your boat is bigger than the freakin' TV in my bedroom LOL. Thats right you were the first one to see my 1197SI right?? It's nice.... You'd be decked out with one of those on the jon 8-) LOL Mike It's just a bit of a tough pill to swallow to drop $3k on electronics for a $2500 boat. But I think I'd get over it real fast (if the wife let me).

Barlows Tackle Bulk Plastics
The bulk, no-name plastics look awfully similar to the name brands. If you have the paper catalog, look at the "house" craw tubes compared to the "name brand" craw tubes in there. I suspect they're identical with different packaging. So the rest of the plastics are probably in the same boat (pun intended)

More Shimano "Budget" Rods
If you were flown to El Salto and Dream Lake to 'evaluate' Shimano products, you'd probably do whatever they asked

Anyone use an SI unit on a jonboat?
Over the last month, I've seen a few good deals on used SI units and I keep telling myself to go ahead and pull the trigger (PS: don't tell my wife). Does anyone on here currently use an SI unit on a jonboat? I have a 15ft G3 with a 65 lb bow mount and a 80 lb transom mount and I get ~4.3 MPH when I "floor it". Would that be fast enough to get a good picture out of the SI units? I'm also debating what I'd actually set up on my boat. For instance, I fish the small, electric-only lakes only so there are no Navionics chips available for me (that I know of) -- and I'm even debating the need to set up the GPS with an SI unit since my lakes aren't on fishing maps. So I'm even almost thinking I'd just need the head unit and the transducers. Thougths? Input? Bueller? Bueller?

Does no one use floro? I've got a Winch on the way that I was thinking about using 10 lb floro on...

topwater rod
My topwater plug rod is the one RW mentioned. As far as I'm concerned, it's perfect for throwing spooks. I throw buzzbaits on the same rod I throw my spinnerbaits on. The AC66MF will certainly work for that, but I prefer my 6'9" Kistler MgAPC for that purpose.

Rapala DT-20
Looks like most of those reviews are old, and not specific to the DT20's. FYI, I've never had a lip break off any of my DTs.

Carrot Stix or Kistler Magnesium TS ?

Favorite of 08'
2008 was the year I introduced myself to the Lucky Craft Pointer. Either 78 or 100 in chartreuse shad was the ticket for me. Not a great year fishing for me in 2008, so I look forward to starting off 2009 with the LC Pointer on some largemouth and spots.

I'd think you'd want at least a 300-sized Calcutta.

favorite spinning rod for 1/4oz jigs?
I think the St Croix AVS68MXF would do very well for this.

Attn: College football fans!
LSU played a great game, but our offensive execution wasn't terribly sharp, and our line play was horrendous. Adding both of those up doesn't bode well, especially against a team with as much talent as LSU. They're not 35 points better than us, even if we play again now or in a month. Johnson has only implemented about half his offense (GT WILL pass more next year), so anyone who thinks they have a gameplan to stop GT in upcoming years just based on what LSU did is in for a surprise. I'm looking forward to our 16 returning starters to getting another spring of Coach Johnson's teaching, and the first crop of Johnson's recruits. Good times are ahead

You remember the scene in 'A Christmas Story' when Ralphie is beating the crap out of Scott Farkus with the stream of obscenities coming out of his mouth? That was me on Weds night You guys played a heck of a game -- but I want a rematch next year

casting fluorocarbon line
Try BPS Florocarbon. It may not be THE best, but it's a pretty darn good florocarbon line and a spool of it won't break the bank. Go 6 or 8lb for spinning reels, and 10-17 for baitcasting. But I agree with some of the other advice as well. Use KVD line conditioner liberally as you're spooling.

swimbait rods and economy swimbait rods
I use a BPS Extreme 7'6" H rod. Normally $100, but frequently on sale for $65-ish I'm no SB expert but the price was good to get me acquainted with swimbaits, and the telescoping handle makes storage on my 15ft jonboat easier.

I'm sure this topic has been beaten to death, but.......
I've had luck with Sufix brain, BPS Florocarbon and Pline Premium CX.

Revo Winch -- lower end of lure weight?
Hello all, For you guys with the Revo Winch, what's the lightest lures you can throw with them? I'm considering picking one up for throwing cranks, but I'm curious how low I can go as far as crankbait weight. Also, does anyone know if there's a shallow-spool option for this reel? Anyone have any input? Thanks Chris
