  1. I have a G3 1548 now. I like it a lot -- but then again, it's the only boat I've fished out of for a considerable amt of time
  2. With every post I see on the Road Trip, I get more P.O.'d that I won't be there Have fun guys (and gals)!
  3. Thanks for the recommendations... As far as the Carrot Sticks go -- not just no, but heck no. I know folks love these things but to me they're just plan ugly. And I've handled some in a local tackle shop and they just don't seem like anything special. I might need to look further into the Cumara. I'd like to keep the rod below 7ft, but they make a 6'8" version
  4. Hey guys, I'm looking for a spinning rod recommendation. I'd pair it with a 2500 Shimano/Daiwa. The intended uses are: --split-shotting --1/8 - 1/4 shakey head --weightless plastics (trick works, senkos, flukes) --finesse jigs --light dock skipping --(in a pinch) hard jerkbaits (Pointer 100s and smaller) In the past I've used a St Croix AS69MLXF that was too light, and a Dobyns (generation 1) 703SXF, that just doesn't seem to suit me (I can't really put my finger on why). Looking in the $150-250 range. My first thought was to get a St Croix 68MXF (Avid or Tourney Bass). Any other ideas? Is it worth saving a few more bones and stepping up to the St Croix Extreme line? Thanks
  5. Who makes a 16x72? I've seen 1648s and 1652s, but not one that wide
  6. As most of us have already figured out, this sport is about the next best thing. The next trip you'll take... The next rod/reel/lure you'll buy... Ever since I got my jonboat, I've been thinking about my next boat. My wife, more or less, has given approval to stepping up to what she calls a 'big boy boat' for the bigger lakes. But honestly, at this point, I'm not interested. I only get to fish on weekends, and the big lakes close to ATL get pretty crowded. My options are to deal with crowds, or to drive ~2 hrs to less crowded lakes. Neither interest me at this point. So what's left? The ultimate jonboat So if you were going to customize a jon boat, what brand/model would you start with? Ultimately, I'd like to end up with a boat with the following: --front and rear decks --front and rear storage --rod locker --bow mount TM, and 2 transom mount TMs --storage for ~6 batteries --built in livewell/cooler Which jonboat maker makes a jonboat that's most conducive to the above modifications? No, I probably won't be buying/building this anytime soon, but I'm bored so humor me
  7. As long as you're not completely oblivious to your surroundings, you'll be fine. Just be aware, and pick an open area to fish and not some swampy, out of the way area
  8. My folks retired to HHI a few years ago, so I've got some tips Where are you staying? Perhaps I can provide some more details relevant to where you'll be 1) you have both freshwater and saltwater at your disposal. If you're staying inside a plantation, there are ponds with bass everywhere. Just keep your eyes open for gators -- I'm not joking 2) lots of the beaches have signs that say 'No fishing'. Even the locals ignore these -- as long as you're not fishing on a beach crowded with swimmers, you'll be fine. I also recommend not fishing on a beach too close to a hotel/resort. The staff doesn't alway like that. If you end up on such a beach, just be sure to walk ~50 yards or so past the end of the property. 3) if you can swing it, I HIGHLY recommend booking an inshore guided trip. These are not cheap, but I think they're worth it. These trips are much better than booking trips on party boats, IMO. For a guide recommendation, PM me 4) there are some lagoons with brackish or salt water that allow you to catch saltwater fish in a freshwater-looking setting. You'll need someone more knowledgeable to identify them though 5) there are next to no baitshops on the island. There's Walmart and Boaters World/West Marine for frozen bait, and 1 baitshop I know of in the Salty Dog shopping center 6) be forewarned -- the area where Port Royal Sound meets the Atlantic is a known shark nursery. If you fish there, just have the right equipment and tools
  9. Lucky Henry county folks I don't anticipate Cobb county opening any new reservoirs within it's borders anytime soon
  10. MH St Croix MH Daiwa H Dobyns H Kistler
  11. Look at the geometry of the line coming onto a spinning reel vs a baitcasting reel. For baitcasters, the line goes straight on. On a spinning reel, the line is turned 90 degress to be put onto the reel
  12. why the swivel? just curious and never heard of the white ice but ill keep my eyes open for them. where you fish in NC A few reasons... 1) to prevent/minimize line twist 2) add a weight 3) (and this one proposed by Senko77 last week) a flashy swivel gives the appearance that the fluke is chasing something
  13. www.carbuyingtips.com When you walk into a dealer, have you research and notes with you so they see you're serious and that you're not an uneducated doofus
  14. I like the Strike King and the Luck E Strike 4.5 and 5.5 inch baits As far as the hooks go, I just recently stocked up on Luck E Strike belly weighted hooks with the screw on the eyelet. There seem to be several brands offering weighted swimbait books, but the Luck E Strike we're SUBSTANTIALLY cheaper. And so far, so good
  15. Don't ask me -- I can't catch a cold on these things (and it ticks me off )
  16. No...two 24 volt systems, each with 2 dedicated batteries
  17. Hello all, I've seen it mentioned in several places that the screen for the 798 is bigger than the 797, yet all the publications I see show a 5 inch screen for both. Is there truly a difference in screen size/
  18. I currently have a Humminbird 535 on my jonboat. The transducer is installed on the bow-mount trolling motor. When I'm running the bow mount motor only, the Humminbird seems OK. However, when I run the transom motor as well, the screen no longer reads clearly -- it's taken over by black lines and shading. Is this interference? Was the depthfinder not designed to read at 4 MPH? Any ideas where to look to diagnose and troubleshoot the issue?
  19. How heavy are the jigs and t-rigs you're hoping to use with this?
  20. Ga Tech fan and alumnus here. And we just got off 4 years probation for a PAPERWORK error for athletes' classes. Not cheating...we're talking about a FB player taking biology instead of chemistry and it being tracked incorrectly on their transcipt. If we got 4 years for that, FSU deserves more if the allegations are correct. And based on the suspension of all those players before the bowl game, it certainly sounds like something fishy is afoot. Sorry Noles (actually, not really sorry ), take the punishment you deserve
  21. I'm waiting for Shaw Grigsby to start endorsing adult diapers... Judging by the sounds he makes, he soils himself at least twice per show ;D
  22. Use Water Gremlin Bull Shot sinkers. They're essentially pinch on bullet weights
