  1. The only plastics that I do NOT store in their original bag is jig trailers -- I have a 3700 box dedicated to them. But for my other plastics, I rely on my good ole' duffel bag o' plastics. Is it the most organized? No. Does it hold a lot of freakin' plastics? Yes. And since I do not store my boat at my house, I needed a way to transport easily -- and the DBOP does nicely for that purpose.
  2. Not sure it would be a good choice for plastics for a few reasons... 1) you should move the bait with your rod and only use the reel to pick up the slack, so the reel wouldn't really help to slow you down 2) you want a reel you can quickly pick up slack with when you're trying to set the hook. The less slack between you and the fish, the better your hook set will be. Here is where a faster retrieve reel will help With that said, I've only had my Winch out on 1 outing and it did well throwing what I think were 5/16 oz X-rap shads
  3. And I can hide it from my wife Spending $1000+ on 1 fishfinder is tough. But spending ~$500 twice is easier to camouflage
  4. Geez -- did you completely jump the Revo ship?
  5. Has anyone bought and used any of the new Lowrance HD systems yet? I'm looking to replace my Humminbird 535 with a Lowrance. I thought I'd be quite content to get the Lowrance 510 that BPS is clearing out...and then I saw it side by side the the new HD system. Man, it certainly looks sweet... Anyone have one? With this new a product, are there any bugs that have been discovered? I'm not sure if this is one of those new items that I should give a year to be on the market before buying.
  6. Hmmm...I was just looking at the Falcon site and I came across this: LR Carolina Lizard Dragger II H power, M action, rated for 3/8 to 1-1/4 oz. Anyone have any experience with that one? I hear so many different things about the desired action for a swimbait rig. But this rod intrigues me...if it's made for C-rigging, it would seem to have solid backbone. But the moderate action would help by not pulling the hook out of the fish's mouth. Does anyone have different preferences for power/action of a swimbait rod for a bait w/ single hook (like paddletail, or Mattlures bluegill) vs hardbaits w/ trebles?
  7. First off, I agree with the comments above that an upgraded plastics rod will be a better investment than an upgraded crankbait rod. And the above suggestions are all good ones. Here are mine: --St Croix Avid or LT Bass, 68mxf -- casting or spinning --Dobyns 3 or 4 power, depending on how heavy a weight you're using --Daiwa Zillion MH 6'9" XF -- I like mine for jigs and 1/4oz + T-rigs
  8. Hey guys, I think I may have asked this a while back, but I couldn't find it. I'm looking to possibly put together a combo to throw smaller swimbaits, but also be versatile enough for other applications. The swimbaits I plan to throw are Sebiles, BBZ Shad, 4.5 - 6.5 inch paddletails up through the Mattlure soft bluegill. I fish out of a jonboat, so the rod must by 7ft or less, or telescoping. Anyone have any suggestions? And what other appliocations would a good small swimbait rod lend itself to?
  9. In the words of Charles Barkley... That's just tarrible
  10. 5/8 oz Old Glory Spooky Shad Clear Chartreuse Gold Black
  11. Zillion 6'9" MH, Dobyns 704C, Dobyns 683c -- depending on the lure weight
  12. Wow...an $8 jig... None for me, thanks. I think even the guys that throw only LC or Megabass hardbaits wouldn't buy these. If you aren't fishing a jig where it can't get lost, you're not fishing it right. And I'm not throwing a $8 jig into a tree.
  13. I love my Browning pliers that they sell at BPS. I NEVER go fishing without them.
  14. Really? Wow...you have technique-specific cranking preferences? Bey hey man, whatever works for you. I crank on the left side with all my setups, and I'm a righty.
  15. As spring gets closer, I'm going my typical preseason "audit" on my stuff. Right now, my DBOP (duffel bag o' plastics) is reaching it's limit and I'm trying to remove a few items. Do you guys find that lizards and brush hogs are interchangeable in their application? Is there any reason to choose one over the other? Profile is similar, both have lots of appendages... Thoughts?
  16. Yep. Industrial engineering graduate from Ga Tech here. Lots of engineering at that school, so many of my friends are engineers as well. What do you want to know? As others have mentioned, you better be able to tolerate calculus. I took Calcs 1-5, then several other math courses. Curiousity on how things works is also a plus. Getting an internship or co-op experience while in college will definitely help you land a job after college. You have lots of choices... nuclear industrial electrical computer civil mechanical textile aerospace
  17. Yeah really . Let's hear it Burley. Wow...lighten up Francis
  18. They don't like those of us that crank with the left hand?
  19. Hehe -- thanks for the info, but I'm looking for info on the Bas Magic HOOKS, not the swimbaits themselves
  20. Does anyone have any experience with Luck "E" Strike Bass Magic hooks? I was at BPS yesterday picking up some hollow swimbait hooks and came across these. I was planning to get some Mustads, but @ nearly $3 per hook, I was not too pleased. Then I saw these. Packs of 4 for $4. They sure look like quality hooks... But anyone have any experience with these? At nearly $1 less per hook than the competition, I'm certainly favoring this price point
  21. I fished the Chigger Craw today in a golf course pond with some success... On a related note, does anyone use any additional scent when fishing Chiggers or other Berkley baits? Just one of those random questions I have...
  22. Hey T-Mike, or others who would know... What's the minimum speed you can go and still get a decent picture on the SI unit? Keep in mind, I'm electric-lake only, so my speed options are 4mph and less. Just curious if I could get a decent picture using only my 65lb bow mounted trolling motor
