  1. I seem to recall in the last few years that they would have some pretty good sales on some lures not usually on sale. I recall Lucky Craft pointers and Sammies at $10, darn near every rattle bait in the store for $2 and some others like that. I don't think they were that price for the entire Spring Fishing sale, rather just one item like that per day. As far as rods and reels...I think the only true sale prices would be on BPS and Browning brand rods/reels. However, everyone but Shimano is participating in the reel-trade in, so you can get a lower price on other name-brand reels when you trade in an old reel.
  2. I think it's because of the Stradic. Out of curiosity, are you eyeing the older or the new Stradic?
  3. Line capacity is a concern when throwing these baits. Often times, throwing 17lb + is needed, and on some low-profiles, it's simply not realistic. 300 size Curados are likely the best LP bet, but I've heard of people using Revos.
  4. Barlow's definitely has these, in a few different sizes. I'd link to the exact page, but Barlow's site appears to be down.
  5. Trying to get a pic on the Dobyns site?
  6. Brady lost the game for NE? What? I think it had a little something to do the the defense putting him on his back. And the fact that NE got absolutely NOTHING in the ground game. On the long throws I honestly cannot remember one where Brady had time to step into the throw without getting leveled.
  7. Yes, the motion is the same, but the way I hold a baitcaster vs a spinning reel is the issue. I palm the baitcaster. Even when fishing jerkbaits, I can't NOT palm the reel. And the jerking motion with the reel palmed is where the discomfort sets in. The way I hold a spinning rod/reel is much more conducive to the motion for jerkbait fishing, IMO.
  8. Hmmm...mine comes right out on both my STXs. Perhaps you have too much line on the spare spool, and it's just too snug to slide right in/out?
  9. I love fishing and all, but I just assume have full use of both my hands
  10. I was out throwing a Pointer 100 most of the day yesterday, and throwing it on my Revo/Avid AC66MF combo wore my wrist out. So now I'm pondering throwing these baits on a spinning rod or getting a 6ft pistol grip baitcaster rod. I was using 12 lb Floroclear on my baitcaster yesterday, but if I switch to a spinning reel, I'm trying to determine which line will sit on the size 2500 spinning reel nicely enough as well as handle these baits. Anyone have any input? 10lb test? 12lb? Assume I'll be throwing the 7/16 size Xraps and the size 100 Pointers.
  11. I have the Fathom model with vermillion lenses. I freakin' love these things to death.
  12. Save another $20 and get a Dobyns Champion...
  13. A few things to consider about the BPS reel trade in during their Spring Classic. Yes, all BPS do it. However, not all the stores have this event at the same time. Last year, Shimano did NOT participate. There were also some grumblings that Daiwa would not be participating anymore after last year's event. You can only apply 1 rebate per reel. Doesn't matter what reel you trade in...which is why I usually just go to Walmart and buy a crapper of a reel to trade in for a new one at BPS
  14. Any moving, non-plastic bait is my recommendation. Jerkbaits, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, etc.
  15. I'm sure I missed or forgot the answer to this based on previous posts... What changed between the older Avids and the newer ones that the AC66MF is now rated for 1/4 - 5/8, whereas the older one was rated for 1/4 - 3/4? Just noticed in my BPS catalog and I was curious
  16. Dobyns 3 or 4 power, depending on how heavy the lures you're planning to use are.
  17. I started with a 704C and recently added a 703sxf and a 683c. It's hard to convey with a sales pitch, but these rods just feel great in hand.
  18. Like? (I've never used braid) Like if the braid digs in on itself on a cast, the line could snap and send your $20 bluegill across the lake Happened to me, but thankfully with a $3 Storm swimbait. Lesson learned.
  19. I've used the following all with good results: 1) * -- has anyone heard of them? Hehe 2) Delo's 3) Hi's Tackle Box 4) *** 5) Barlow's Tackle 6) Hookerz Tackle
  20. I'll remember that when I retake the title on this pond next month
  21. For those of you who have fished the Mattlures Bluegills... Any reason to add or not add a treble hook to the hook eye on the bottom of the body?
  22. Well I can say with 100% certainty that is was NOT Photoshopped. I held the previous 'record' on this private pond so it killed me to have to pass the torch onto this guy. Hehe. Then again, it is his family's pond so I have to be nice As far as it being bigger. What can I say, he's a fisherman! The full arm extension towards the camera is only natural
  23. Do I get the credit for fish landed from my boat? No? Crap This is how my buddy broke in his brand new Curado/Crucial combo I helped him pick out a few weeks ago. I think it can be considered properly broken in. Hehe. She went 8-7, and was released to fight another day (hopefully when I take my swimbaits down there in a month or so).
