Upgrading electronics in the kayak
Hummingbird has already got a newer version of their "livescope" out. It's Mega live2. It's not compatible with the Helix units. I'm not up to speed on Mega live 2 on which units it is compatible with. Helix is being phased out with the advent of the Xplore series. Mega live 2 is compatible with the Solix and Apex series units that have the updated software version according to this link. https://humminbird-help.johnsonoutdoors.com/hc/en-us/articles/28396954432791-MEGA-Live-2-Compatibility Best, FM

Question about my Ugly Stik GX2
Hi Jonny, I'm in WRB's camp. The GX2 is probably perfectly fine for using with bottom contact baits (Jig's, T-rigged & weightless. I'm not in the camp that braid is more sensitive. It is very sensitive when the line is tight. When it isn't tight you get no feed back. Fluorocarbon or monofilament is a much stiffer line and you get "return" back when a fish hits a sinking bait on a slack line which is the way you fish bottom baits. Go spool it up with some 12-14# Big game. Tie on a jig or Texas rig worm and just fish that. You'll learn what a bite feels like. You'll learn to feel your bait on the end of the line and you'll learn when you run it into weeds, rocks or timber. A bite feels "live" you can really tell the difference between it and something dead. The more you fish with bottom contact baits the better you'll get at detecting bites and when to set the hook. Good luck! FM

Upgrading electronics in the kayak
Hello Gstate, Honestly, If you can, go big, especially if your planning on adding live scope in the future. I have the 106 Echomap Ultra 2 on my Hobie. I have it mounted on my left side H-rail. I ran the 93sv for several years. It's not too big for a kayak in my opinion. Another thing to think about is where your mounting it. How far away are you going to be from the screen. You didn't mention what kind of kayak you're putting it on. If you're paddling, pedaling or electric. It will make a difference on mounting location. Best, Fishingmickey

Garmin Livescope Transducer Mounts
Hello JHoss, Yes, I have one. In perspective mode the tranducer is rotated so it is horizontal instead of vertically oriented. The cone angle of the transducer is 20° x 135° in forward mode so you've got a 20 degree V side to side and a 135 degree V top to bottom cone. I hope I am making sense. When you are in perspective mode you've rotated the transducer so your 135° is side to side and 20° is top to bottom. There are also marks on the bracket for each setting (forward, down and perspective) position. It is also covered in the instructions Garmin has for the Live Scope transducers. Google is your friend here. There is a ton of information out on the webs and on Garmin's web site. Good luck! FM

Garmin Livescope Transducer Mounts
Garmin, sells the perspective mounting bracket. That bracket will let you rotate your transducer to a horizontal position. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Garmin_Livescope_Plus_Perspective_Mode_Mount/descpage-PLSS.html I see it has gone up twenty bucks on TW. You may be able to find one at the old price of $99. FM

Devils River TX
Hey Disco, I've fished Ray Bob a few times. We had it as a stop in some of the old KATS tournaments. It's been awhile since I've been there. Pretty serious six hour hike from here. If I'm up in that area I'll bring a extra kayak and we can see what happens. Best, Fishingmickey

A new M I N I M A X ?
I stand corrected. I will eat my humble pie. I just saw that the prices on TW are not the 19.99 I thought they were for the Jack Hammer. They are 15.99 - 17.99. With the Baby Jack at 15.99. My eight Baby Jacks should be here tomorrow according to the tracking. Looking forward to seeing how well they perform. I'm hoping they start easier then the mini max's. FM

A new M I N I M A X ?

2025 classic
One of the things that was done once during the KATS ( Kayak Anglers Tournament Series) days (now defunct). This was before TourneyX. Pictures had to be submitted using a SD card and then for the awards they brought up the top five anglers and then did a reveal of their catch one picture at a time. Starting from the smallest to largest fish. It was pretty cool and added some excitement to the awards ceremony. FM

2025 classic
Don't forget about them riding to Fort Worth on the highway for whatever length of time that is a hour or two? Then how long after the weigh in before they get put back into a lake or is it Ray Roberts? FM

Go Bluebasser86!
A truly unbelievable day, even for Lake Fork. Sixteen anglers in the century club! 111.25" for the win is unreal! Not a single Texan in the top ten. Maybe next year. Fishingmickey

Rod tip wear (with pics)
I think your spot on on your analysis, Wasabi. Tungsten jigs? Send TFO the pic's, maybe your get another tip top for free. Or go buy one and replace it. Fuji has the three packs of different sized tip tops I see from time to time in Academy or Wal-mart and they include a stick of hot melt glue. Other thought would be to find a rod builder/repair guy in your area. Good luck! FM

Go Bluebasser86!
I saw the FB post yesterday and it looked like a smashfest on Fork. Top five had over or at a 100". Ewing Minor was leading with 106 and change. BASS is withholding the results (leader board is off). Today before the Boater classic anglers weigh in. The top ten BASS master Kayak classic winners will cross the stage for their awards. FM PS for you guys that go by weight, 100" is like a 20-25lb bag.

Just picked up an inflatable kayak..any tips?
Three lessons when taking the wife. One make sure she is comfortable, two make sure she is comfortable and has food and drink. Three don't try to keep her out there for long periods of time. Couple, three hours and call it. Four, keep it simple. Five, make sure you know where a decent bathroom is and how long it will take you to get there. That was more then three... FM

Establishing a pattern
I find the "pattern" will change through out the day here in Texas. In the morning, sun up. Shad spawn may be happening and it is katy-bar-the-door for that first hour or two is I am lucky. Then after that feeding window closes. It will just flat die. I'll move out deeper or hunt for hydrilla, lily pads, lay downs and under docks. Basically ambush points for bass. Those dark nook and crannies where Gertrude or Hazel can hide under cover and wait for a meal to swim by. I am a firm believer in find the food, find the fish. Also find the pretty green hydrilla or coon tail or just live living plant growth and you'll be in the basses living room. FM

Devils River TX
Hi Lrgmouth, There is a outfitter or two that organizes trips down the Devils river. I have know several people that have taken the trip and one of these days I'd love to do it too, I think timing your trip is critical. You don't want to go when the water is really low nor really high either. It's pretty much a point to point float down a very primitive and pristine section of river. There are rules about making sure you pack out everything you pack in. Including the "dueces" you drop along the way. I think the "floats" vary in length with the long trip taking up to a week. Very clear water, very good fishing is what I have heard. There should be plenty of information on the web about it and the outfitters. Best regards, FM PS We'll have to get together and fish Stillhouse sometime,

hot shoe gas pedal;?
I can see a hot foot as a serious plus, especially in rough water where your having to vary the throttle due to waves and wakes. Much better boat control and less chance of "accidental" throttle control being hit or pushed. You still have to have a kill switch lanyard. FM
