  1. The 852 might be fine for 3/16, but you're going to most likely want a specialty JDM rod. The closest thing you might find from the states might be a Dobyns 702 or the Shimano Expride 7'2" BFS rod.
  2. The rod is going to help more than anything. You're going to need a specialty L or ML powered casting rod and 6-8lb line in order to get super light. But from what I've heard 1/8 and even 1/16oz is obtainable with the proper rod.
  3. I think this comes from being in contact from plastic baits. Another vote here for the clear nail polish trick.
  4. I like it a lot! I'll have to order a few.
  5. I'm going to need some of these! Looks like a new color pattern too?!
  6. It sounds like you have some friends who carry. Here's what I would recommend. Go meet up with one of them and ask to try out their holsters. You'll quickly find that every person and body shape carries differently. So see where is comfortable on your person, and what positions conceal the best. Sometimes, they're not the same position, so you need to adjust accordingly.
  7. As a co-angler who still hasn't bought a WP, I can honestly say that I have yet to see anyone out fish me with a WP while I'm throwing my trust old Cavitron's. Three things have kept me from purchasing a Whopper Plopper. Treble hooks - they cannot be fished with vegetation on the surface Thrown baits - large heavy lures are more prone to being tossed during a jump when compared to a 1/4oz buzzbait with a single hook Still haven't seen anyone outfish me with my buzzbait
  8. Absolutely DO NOT buy an Alien Gear holster. I have bought 3 different AG holsters and I ended up returning all 3 of them. The latest one I bought was for my Sig P320. The Kydex was molded wrong and completely wore the finish off my slide from just one time of putting the 320 in the holster. I have multiple friends who have also bought AG holsters and were not impressed with them either. There are so many other better options. Because you have a revolver, I have to ask. Are you looking to carry IWB or outside? I like wheel guns myself, but I prefer to carry them OWB myself. Do yourself a favor and spend a few more dollars and get a quality holster. Here are a few companies I recommend. Crossbreed Stealthgear Black Arch Winthrop (this is what I personally use for my S&W 642)
  9. It's not about the knot giving so much as the fluoro is being stretch, weakened, and breaking during the casting process. All that braid with no stretch, and then 18" of fluoro to absorb the shock of a 1oz+ lure... I've seen this happen first hand when trying to do the same setup with heavier crankbaits like a DT16/20 and the likes.
  10. I use Cush-It's on my heavy flipping and frogging setups. I buy them because it counterweights the rod and makes it more balanced and comfortable to fish all day. I'll also add quarters inside of my Cush-It to further counter balance the rod if needed. The added advantage of these is that the ribs are sore after a day of setting the hook numerous times. If you're buying a Cush-It to make your rod float, you're probably doing it wrong...
  11. Curado K. In my opinion (and probably quite a few others here), it's the best reel in that sub $200 price range.
  12. I prefer to catch fish, not feed them.
  13. The general theory is to use as big of a hook as you can without the hooks being able to foul up on each other. The bigger the hook, the more likely that bigger throat is going to catch onto something in the fishes mouth whenever they hit it.
  14. I would go up to at least 12-14 lb fluoro on your baitcaster. If you hook into a fish around that wood with 8lb line, that fish is going to break you off as soon as it gets down in that wood whenever you hook up. Pegging the weight and tex-posing that hook point will help. You could also try texas rigging a weightless senko or Fluke and work that over those tree limbs.
  15. Tons of people use waders for fishing. Lots of prime fishing spots that I fish are further out from shore, and the first 100-200' against the shore is shallow, dead water.
  16. You fish WAY lighter line than I would ever feel comfortable using. Here's what I'd use. Spinnerbait/Chatterbait: 14-18lb Fluoro, or 40lb Braid if I'm ripping through weeds a lot Crankbait: 12# Fluoro Topwater: 14-17lb Mono/Copoly, or 40lb Braid (most likely braid because I hate stretch) T-Rig/Shakey head: 14-20lb Fluoro, or 40-50lb braid in heavy grass Drop Shot: 6-8lb Fluoro C-Rig: 14-20lb Fluoro, with 12-14lb Mono behind my weight Jigs: 14-20lb Fluoro Flipping/Punching: 40-50lb Braid Frog 50-65lb Braid
  17. Long before my time! Haha
  18. Yes, it would absolutely remove the protective slime coating from the fish. Why not just weigh them from the lip and/or gill opening like everyone else?
  19. I don't even want to know how much money has been won off of a trick worm throughout the years.
  20. I normally don't go below 40lb braid on my casting reels. If i'm super brave, I'll drop to 30lb. You're just asking for digging in issues using braid as thin as 15lb. test.
  21. Interesting to see nothing on any of the northern Midwestern bodies of water. Lakes like St. Clair, Mil Lacs, or any of the Great Lakes. But I like seeing them go to new bodies of water. The Washington event should be interesting. Another thing to note. I understand why they do it because these guys put enough miles on the road as it is, but I hate whenever they stack events on back to back weekends. Looks like they're doing it twice next year. April 4-7 Elite 3 Lake Hartwell Anderson, S.C. April 11-14 Elite 4 Winyah Bay Georgetown, S.C. June 13-16 Elite 7 California Delta Sacramento, CA June 20-23 Elite 8 Columbia River Tri-Cities, WA
  22. Buck Splizzors, hands down. They're going to run you $70-90 if I remember correctly, but they cut braid the second they touch it. Plus they come with a nice sheath and extra blades. I'm on my 3rd or 4th season with mine and I'm still on the original blades.
  23. Those all look like largemouth to me. I'm not sure spotted bass live as far north as NH.
  24. Dicks selection has been scaling back more and more every year for the past 3-4 years. It's sad to see brick and mortar stores continuing to scale back.
