  1. It's stiffer, and the memory thing. Braid has little to no memory, while Fluorocarbon does, and quality Fluoro will have less, but bad fluoro can be like casting a slinky.
  2. This is what I do.
  3. Another reel that I am looking at is the Quantum Iron PT. They seem like they would hold up good.
  4. You'd be surprised.... Plastic softness, which affects durability and action, shapes, tails... My personal preference are the Yum Salamanders w/the boot tail.
  5. I use an EWG. I use O'Shaughnessy bends for ribbon tails, and straight shank for flipping.
  6. X2. When it comes to jerkbait and topwater reels, you want something you can palm and make precise moves with.
  7. I actually like FLW better than BASS stuff. FLW coverage is better IMO. I also like their shows 'Circuit Breaker' and 'Beyond the Basics'
  8. If you want to pick up a PQ, they are gonna go on sale *supposedly* during the spring classic for $50. It would be a great starter reel at the price. At $100-$150 there are a ton of quality options that don't offer the shiny bling, but they offer great performance. Lew's Speed Spool, Daiwa Tatula, Pinnacle Producer and Optimus reels, Abu Garcia Revo S and Revo SX, Quantum Energy, Pflueger Supreme, are all good options.
  9. Stay safe for sure.. But I don't mind this at all. I need some time off of school!
  10. I saw that you want to purchase a good rod/reel... Do you have a price range in mind?
  11. Welcome! This will suck up your winter boredom!
  12. Fish slowly.. 49 isn't that cold, but if you get below 40, then you may have problems..
  13. If you are gonna flip w/a jig in these colder temps go w/a compact jig and chunk combo w/out a lot of action. Also, make sure you have confidence at what your throwing. Confidence and attitude can make or break winter fishing.
  14. I'm watching it... It's football, so might as well. Some guys are playing hard, nthats just their nature.. They always play to win.. But others are not.. It's a joke
  15. Because it would ruin the 'integrity of the game' argh argh argh argh!
  16. Believe he is talking about these: http://secretlures.com/products/stupid_tube_jig_heads.html
  17. That area where it is 3' then 7' then 13' and 16' looks interesting. It may provide a good shallow feeding area for bass, w/the ability to escape to deeper water. That's where I would concentrate my efforts at first. If I'm fishing a foreign lake im gonna cover water, and im gonna start shallow. That's my thinking.
  18. Definitely fish that rock in the NW area. It will hold heat and bait, bringing the bass. The lake is not warm, but a warming trend will begin, so a flat sided Crankbait like a Spro Little John would be a good bet. I fish a similar lake myself, and I typically just fish every spot I can reach by foot (which is more than one would think, I've trekked through some serious crap before, but it's worth it if the fishing is good). I cover water, and generally fish a Crankbait, spinnerbait, and then follow them up w/something like a jig to get the less active fish! Good luck!
  19. That would be a good setup. For grass that would be a great option. You may not be able to cast lighter weights though. But I would use the setup you mentioned for sure.
  20. I'm an NFL guy as well, but I've recently gotten into Skiing through one of my fishing buddies, and the stuff they do is so cool! Watching the ProBowl tonight?
  21. The ProBowl is being played in the same stadium? What happened to Hawaii? I always wanted to go to a ProBowl there and enjoy some beach time as well!
  22. Anybody watching these? I'm ready to get back to Perfect North already! When I go back, I'm gonna go with some friends and do some filming with GoPros. But it can't meet these, not even close.... These guys are sick!
