  1. Haven't tried the ned rig, whopper plopper, or Live target floating blue gill yet so looks like I got alot of work to do.
  2. I agree that keeping some fish actually helps lakes. Here in PA we have a fish & boat commission. They use random stupidity to designate every other lake as a "big bass lake" which basically means you can't take any bass under 15 inches. That just means small bass stay small. Too many small fish means less big fish. Stupid bureaucrats.
  3. I fish from a 16' canoe and the lake its moored at is on top of a mountain so wind is almost always an issue. If there is a small breeze where I live, the lake is gonna be rolling. Usually 10mph is my limit. Above that puts white caps on the water and makes it impossible to fish. I've tried to anchor during wind above 10mpg but the wind just ends up spinning me around.
  4. In local rivers I keep a steady retrieve cause most rivers in my area have low visibility and the bass need to feel it moving thru the water to hone in on it. In local lakes I tend to move it slower and use a stop and go retrieve. I also change the angle of my rod at least once a cast. That makes the bait change course. I've found that a straight line retrieve isn't as effective as a retrieve that changes angle. Also changing angle on a retrieve changes the speed temporarily much like a stop and go retrieve.
  5. Oh heck ya!!!! You gotta call it "The Green Machine".
  6. I'm not a father, but a couple of times I've been called a mothersomethingorother.
  7. I understand you confusion Desmonda. I taught myself to use a baitcaster with a little help from Hank Parker and Bill Dance (back then we didn't have Youtube). I figured that if I reeled with my left hand when I was using a spinning reel it must be the same with a baitcaster. Well it doesn't have to be that way. You can use either hand but if you cast with your right hand you are gonna have to switch hands when you start reeling a right handed reel. Also right handed reels are more common on the market and you have alot more choices with right handed reels than lefts. I learned how to retrieve with both right and left but prefer left cause I can start retrieving the bait sooner and that helps if you are throwing a lure like a buzz bait. Good luck with whatever you choose.
  8. Here in Northeastern PA we have an annual event called "The Noxen Rattle Snake Round Up". Its held in Noxen PA to help support the Noxen Fire Company. Its this weekend and I just came back from it with some pics. These people actually catch rattle snakes and bring them back to weight, measure and sex (and you thought your job was horrible) them for fun. They then release them into the pen they are standing in (huh?) and proceed to act as if the deadly snakes aren't slithering 5 feet from them. Its an interesting site. Here's some pics. Here are some more pics of the people with snakes.
  9. That's the type of wedding I wanna go to.
  10. Yup. Food is more important to bass than our idea of where they should be. Most small pond bass feed on insects. Not like bass in big lakes where their food is more diverse.
  11. My bet is on a largemouth. But with a better pic I reserve my right to change my opinion. And much like any election, my decision may change from now till then.
  12. ^^^^This^^^^^ J Will's is what I use the most. The best part is they come in weights that range from 1/8 to over 3/4 of an ounce. Any weight you need, they got.
  13. Sorry, no pic on the smallie. Those were pre-cellphone/camera/internet days. Yea I'm an old-timer. I've met people who have fished the Neshaminy Creek and say it was a blast. Especially in the spring.
  14. My best catch was a fat 5 lb smallie I caught in the fall fishing around a downed tree. My most memorable was a small musky who thought he was a tarpon. He kept leaping over and over again till he finally broke my line. If I hadn't been shad fishing with light line I might have landed him.
  15. Nice fish. I fished the big D around Matamoras PA 20+ years ago and it wasn't easy. But on those special days it seemed the fishing gods smiled on me and it was awesome. Everything from rockbass to muskie were biting.
  16. Mildly venomous?? That's too venomous for me. I don't hate snakes but am cautious of them and tend to leave them alone as long as they leave me alone.
  17. Up here in PA timing is everything. Big bass are caught mostly in the spring. Mainly because of spawning but also because of trout stocking. Big bass love to snack on hatchery trout. Just recently the Fish & Boat biologists trapped a 21" 9 pound bass in a 47 acre lake.
  18. Too funny
  19. Whothewhatnow????
  20. Did you try cursing? It usually works for me. Curse alot, over and over again and when you feel like you got it out of your system curse some more. Just make sure no kids are around. They tend to pick those words up easier than most.
  21. Eric I know what you are talking about. In the Northeastern part of the US we are not blessed with the big bass that the south has. In my local lake I will take any bass I can get. Unfortunately most will be 1lb or less but anything bigger than that is a bonus. I focus on techniques and what catches more fish during the conditions. 5-6 bass in the middle of summer is a good day. But I've fished lakes where catching one bass was a hugh feat and (I feel) worthy of a trophy.
  22. Just read on REI's website that dunking your UV protection clothing such as scarfs and gloves in water will reduce UV protection by 30 to 50 percent. Wetness: A fabric's ability to disrupt UV radiation is usually reduced when wet, though the reasons why are not completely understood. Wetness may cause a 30% to 50% reduction in a fabric's UPF rating.
  23. Do all diesels made now have to have DEF or is it an optional thing? Edit: You answered that question in your post so sorry.
  24. Can anybody explain the DEF thing to me? A friend of mine was looking for a used diesel pickup and asked me about it. I told him I didn't have a clue what it was about. My uncle was always a big diesel guy, had one since he was in his early 30's and now at 72 he just bought a new truck and it was a gasser cause he didn't want to deal with DEF. He said he didn't know what it was and didn't want to be bothered with it.
