  1. I've had pike cut off 30 lb power pro braid. For some reason top water pike bites are more likely to separate my lure from braided line. Might be that they hit the front of the lure more thus are more likely to bite into the line close to where its tied to the lure. They will get thru your braid eventually. You may not get as many bass with a metal leader but you won't lose as many baits either. Good luck.
  2. Biggest problem I have with all that salt is when I'm fishing and change a lure like a tube, senko or other soft plastics and I change to a different type of lure like a spinner bait I just put the lure, jig head and all, in with similar lures. That leads to rusted hooks. Usually its not a problem but with more salt it really rusts them up quick. I know most would say just put it some place else or remove the jig head before putting it back but when I'm on the water I like to not waste time and occasionally I remove a lure and 10 minutes later tie it back on.
  3. Agreed
  4. The thing I like about the format is its more like the way an average fisherman would fish. Trying to catch as many as you can, finding a pattern and adjusting to changing conditions. That is a lot of what I do when I go fishing. Its also interesting that most of the anglers have never been on the water they are fishing. It adds a new element. Watching these guys put pieces together to form a pattern is amazing.
  5. The Lesnar/Hunt fight was terrible. I know the UFC was short on main event fights with Jones being tossed and no McGregor but that fight should have never happened. It just shows that the UFC is more about getting big names to fight not getting good fights to make a good show. Its a shame how bad PEDs have gotten that they can't even count on fighters who will make millions of dollars to stay off them before a fight.
  6. I understand the need for them in nature. They are an important part of the ecosystem, needed to keep the balance of other animals. Having said all that, as long as they stay outside they stay alive.
  7. Zara Spook...I've been throwing those for decades and there is no reason to change. They just flat out work.
  8. Sad to hear about your Grandpa. He passed on to you the happiest parts of his life so you could enjoy them as well. My heart goes out to you and your family.
  9. Just found out this week there is a lake in Montgomery county here in PA that has a rule that if you want to use a boat on the lake it must be quarantined at the lake for 10 days before you can put it on the water. Its a lake run by a water company and they say its so they can stop invasive aquatic species but it just sounds stupid to me. I didn't check on it but I'm somewhat sure they charge a fee to quarantine the boats.
  10. I think you might be confused with Major League Fishing. They do keep the 5 biggest fish on Ultimate Match Fishing. The UMF show I watched just recently did keep a running tally but didn't post it. The announcers just told you what the tally was approximately. The sit down rule is in Major League Fishing. In UMF they just deduct weight from your catch.
  11. That is new to me and I think I like it. It would also allow me to use a bigger plastic to put on the jig. Nice idea Jon.
  12. I gotta say in my early days of bass fishing, when I was 16, shows like Hank Parker & Bill Dance helped me alot. I learned the basics of using a bait caster, how to texas rig any plastic and how and why to choose different types of spinner bait blades depending on water clarity. Those shows were very informative.
  13. Trapper hooks look really interesting and so does the line welder if it works as they say it does.
  14. Was watching the one today where Barney gets a Army surplus motorcycle and sidecar. Forgot how funny the show was. Gonna start DVRing the show.
  15. Bassmasters and Zona's show are good but MLF is a great format for fishing shows
  16. Absolutes....not any I can think of except if I ain't catching anything change it up. Move to another spot, throw a different lure (some days my canoe looks like a bait & tackle shop threw up in it), try a different technique.
  17. I have a bunch of Big Bite products. They make a large grub I use in the spring as a trailer on my spinnerbaits. Works great. And lately I've been finding bargain bins full of BB senko, worms, and other soft plastics. Don't really need them but buy them anyway. So inexpensive you can't pass them up.
  18. IMO slow is the way to go. When the water gets hot the fish slow down. You gotta slow down too. Drop shotting and letting a bait (like a senko or worm) soak is the way I usually get them. The temps hit 90 degrees here today and the fish will be slow and be deeper than normal.
  19. I use medium action rods for crankbaits. The more flexible rod means you are less likely to pull treble hooks out of a basses mouth.
  20. Found something for ya billy....
  21. The man has a point. I don't know why anyone would want to kill those weeds. Some of the best fishing lakes in the country are choked with weeds. That is why they are the best lakes. Flip it, frog it, T-rig it, but don't kill it.
  22. ^^^^What he said. If it means the income you get from endorsement deals for participating in the Olympics means you can keep training for the Olympics in 4 years then the answer is yes. However if I was someone like Michael Phelps, who's career is pretty much at the max and will not be competing after this Olympics, or a pro athlete who does not need the money the Olympics would bring, I would not go. The risks exceed the reward. My question is who runs the Olympic committee who decided Rio would be great for the Olympics? You would think they would have visited the area just once before making a decision like that.
  23. I know the feeling Hootie. One day I got snagged so many times at the end of the day I took my last jig in my tackle box and threw it in the water just to make it an even dozen.
  24. That was my nickname is college. Not sure how I got it but it seemed to fit so I didn't argue.
