Not the best rig, but she's mine
I haven't heard anyone praise the electric steer models. They don't respond to what you want to do fast enough to keep from hitting things. And its another (expensive) thing to break. Anthony

Opening morning of Southern Challenge(lineup pics).
I've got some pics of the 50 blasting off on Saturday. Being at the weigh ins and launches makes me giddy. I fished close (relatively) to Faircloth for some of the morning. Got some pics of him pulling fish out of the water. Anthony

Frog rod for under 100 dollars?
My fishing partner uses a Berkley Lightning stick, 7'6" H for frogs. It seems to work well. $50 or so.

Deep Crank rod. Again.
Have a custom built Lamiglass MB 84 1E This is the Skeet Reese crankin stick. It wocks.

Crankbaits in Grass
Some grass you just can't fish a crankbait through. You want to run it on top of the outside of grass patches and on top of the submerged grass. If you use a shallower crankbait you can make it run deeper by putting your rod tip in the water but can still keep it above the grass. Anthony

Mercury Two Strokes
I wouldn't even consider buying a new carb motor. Fuel injection is so efficient and painless. The Opti is a 2 stroke. It is direct injected and gets great mileage, but you have to pay a premium for the motor.

Getting everything for 1st rod build
For your first rod, I would put that SCV in a corner and buy one of the closeout $16 MH blanks from www.swamplandtackle.com . There are some tricks to making a rod function at its best and look good that are hard to accomplish on your first one. Read every thread on www.rodbuilding.org. Anthony

Topwater/Frog Setup
Frog on slop fishing is a different animal than any other topwater fishing. The proverbial pool cue would work if you could get it to load up. My fishing partner has been using a cheap Berkley Lightning stick, 7'6" telescopic extra heavy for the last two seasons and it has held up fine. Suprisingly so. And cheap. I'm not one to advocate cheap equipment but you don't need an Avid to jerk a frog on top of the mat. For other topwater you may want something more forgiving and a bit shorter, say 6'3" or so. This keeps the tip from hitting the water when you are walking the dog. I think it should also have a shorter handle to keep it from hitting your forearm. On a frog rod a longer handle helps launch the bait way back into the grass. Anthony

need rod help
Casting #5 Shad Raps is tough on any setup. They just don't cast well.

Favorite Beer...
Breweries now use the terms "lager" and "Pilsner" interchangeably, From that posted article. Its not that I don't drink them, I just don't understand how they can be someone's favorite. There is a milron beers out there; try them all. And if any of yall are down this way, give me a hollar and I'll buy you a beer. Anthony

Favorite Beer...
Free beer. I like about any beer, the type depending on the mood. I like a Sapporo with sushi, a porter or stout with a steak, and Corona for sitting at the beach. There is a local joint here with over 100 beers in stock, and they don't have any cheap beers. Still don't understand how people can like the cheap macrobrewed American pilsners that give beer a bad name. Its just flavorless. On a hypocritical note, I have been known to kill some MBL. Cause if you are gonna go cheap, get the cheapest. Just like tap water! Anthony

That yankee runt loudmouth Serra isn't half the fighter GSP is. GSP is one of most talented and well-rounded fighters in the UFC.

DEATH OF MY NEW HMG BEFORE I EVER GOT TO USE IT
If you call Fenwick and explain your plight, they may give you a good discount on a new one. Anthony

I don't want bash Sufix but I've snapped two more times...
I have lost more lures on PP than Sufix. I think Sufix is better handling than PP. I just lost an XRK75 and thats an expensive price to pay to use braid. Dang stress-strain curve. I think I will quit. Anthony

New BC set up
Go custom. David G has a couple for sale on his website built on the 7'0 MH Avid blank. No reason to get a factory rod when you can get a custom for the same price. Anthony

Finesse reels (B/C)
I can throw finesse worms T-rigged with 1/8oz weights easily with a Curado 100d. The shallow spool makes all the difference in the world. I also have a Citica 100dsv with a 50mg spool and it casts very well. Anthony

What is your drink?
I pick the beer based on the food. I like dark beers with steaks- St. Paulis Girl Extra Dark, Olde Town Porter. I like Ambers and some Bocks. Almost hate all Wheat beirs. Sweetness doesn't do it for me. Only cheap beer I drink is Coors Light on Halo night or when I am feeling especially trashy--MBL. Can't get any cheaper. Anthony

Any G3 opinions?
Most of the new high performance tin boats weigh almost as much as a glass rig so the towing advantage and gas usage advantage I don't see. For a smaller boat I would definately go aluminum for the gas and such. I fish a lot out of a 16' flat bottom w/ 50hp merc. You can catch a lot of fish 5 minutes away from the ramp if you pick your ramps carefully. We can fish two days on 6 gallons. Anthony

New vs Old avids, number of guides?
New Avids are easily recognizable by the "IPC" construction sticker they have. Different models have different number of guides. Anthony

Shikiri MB 683-You have experience with it?
I built one up that has a Citica 100 on it that I mainly use for soft plastics, and I built one for a friend that uses an Abu 5600. I think it has a good all-around action. I have thrown 1/2oz spinnerbaits on it but it is a bit light for those for my taste. Smaller works well. I think the value of these is awesome. I just finished a RX7 7ft 10-20lb fast and although I like the rod, I think the SHII in the same weight would be better. I used Alconites on the first one but I don't think the blank is quite light enough to justify them. Went with hard alox Batsons on the others. EVA split grip, no foregrip. I am working on 4 other rods on these SHII blanks, I think they rock. Anthony

Thats how Mudhole is marketing them. Anthony

Shikiri MB 683-You have experience with it?
Is that the 6'8" fast 10-17lb? If so I have built 3 rods on them so far and love them. I like them for lighter spinnerbaits (preference, I like a stiffer blade rod to pull heavier baits through the grass). I have been using one lately for tossing 4" t-rigged tiki sticks and have caught a mess of spots. I love the rod and for the price it cannot be beat. Anthony

Curado spool
The answer to that question is "yes". And if you want to trade a shallow spool for a deep spool, IM me. Anthony

Who Will Win the National Championship, OSU or LSU
I predict that LSU will walk the mudhole dry that Florida stomped in OSU last year. SEC FTW!!!
