How do boat fishermen really feel about kayak anglers?
Same here. Its no big deal if a kayak gets off the channel and paddle in alot of the lakes i fish, especially weiss lake. They can go right over the stuff underwater there. I get out of the channel and im tearing off a foot or beaching my boat. Its worse with ski and tubers though.

What gear do you guys recommend for flipping and pitching?
Yep. I pitch with pretty much any rod i own, even spinning rods. I do have a dedicated 765flip champion, but its what i use for pitchingand light punching into thick nasty stuff where i need the extra beef.

Nizpro Supercharger for 250 SHO
May want to check rulebook too if you plan to tourny fish. Most have a 250hp limit. I have seen folks dq'd for having a 250 cover on a 300 and other power upgrades.

fluorocarbon line
Try both shorter and longer leaders and decide which YOU prefer. That is the only correct answer, its really all just personal preference. If you use a rod with smaller eyes, you will prob want a shorter leader than others with traditional eyes. With larger eyes you may like a longer leader. I personally like seaguar blue label leader material for a leader, and start off with around a 4' leader, that gets shorter as break off or retie. Its what i found works for me and how i like to cast.

How can I get even better...
There is no replacement for experience. Pretty much any good angler will tell you that you can plan, prep, study, and learn but nothing replaces time on the water fishing. Its how you develop your instincts and feel. Experience is always the best teacher. You can read articles and watch videos all day on fishing a jig, but time on the water throwing one is the best. People talk about feeling that tick, or thunk, or heavyness, and so on, but it means nothing until you actually feel it first hand and really, truly know what that feels like in reality to you. My advice is, if you can, instead of watching videos or reading about it in the afternoons, go fishing. Even if its just 30 min, just go. Practice casting, accuracy matters. Develop the muscle memory so its natural, and you dont think about it, it just happens. Learn to cast diffrent ways, one at a time. Learn to cast backhand, pitch, skip, etc.. When learning a new cast method, mix it up too. Mix types of casts, as well as lures. Im currently learning to skip myself, to make me a better angler. I watched videos, read articles, and got an idea of what to do o, days i couldnt go fishing, but i really didnt learn until i went and actually cast. The best tip i got beforehand was to make a long cast, then tape line down on spool, so i can only backlash that far, and i have done it a whole lot. When i go to practice, I take 2 rods (baitcast jig combo and a senko or ned spin combo) with me. I will start out and just skip for a bit, with both rods. Then i will usually just fish a bit if time allows. Then i come back and skip some more, but i mix it up. I will make a skip or two, them make a few casts or pitches, then a skip and then a cast, and so on. I do it to mimic normal fishing for me, going down a bank fishing. I may be casting a jig, then flip to a bush, or switch n skip a senko under a limb. I want to learn to be able to switch like that seamlessly.

Recommend a punching rod?
I have the 765flip champ. Its a wonderful flipping rod. I like the balance and lightweight of it. It makes it easier than the cheaper ones i used before. It was heavier and i could really feel it in my arms and shoulders. I have done some light punching with the 765, but its a touch light for the heavier (1.25oz and up with a chunky plastic) end of punching. The 766 would be perfect though. Im waiting to find the right deal on a used one now. I only punch a few times a year, so its not worth it to me yet to buy one outright.

Best Jig Brands
Siebert outdoors. I dont even look anywhere else anymore. I always opt for the wire tie. I have some rattles i can add on the rare times i use one. My personal favorite is the dredge series, but am experimenting with the tungsten pitching jigs now. I have some swim jigs on order now as well. Siebert also has rage baits $1 less than anywhere else i look too. Free shipping right now on $50+ til the 18th. Even at regular flat rate shipping its still a bargain.

Is bed fishing ethical?
I have no problem with it either way. If it was detrimental as some make it it out to be, the fish populations would show it. I look at it as part of natural selection. Bream gotta eat too, and get bigger so other fish can eat them. Ive targeted and caught bedding fish. Its not like you just see it, throw to it, and catch it. Ive worked for over an hour several times for one. Tons of times it picks they by tail and moves it just off bed, or flare up at it puffing gills out and does everything but suck it up. Another thing to keep in mind, it doesn't only happen for a few week in the spring either. Ive seen and caught bedding fish as late as sept and oct.

Storage trays that promote air flow?
When i go pond fishing, i just throw the used ones in a corner of the truck bed, then restock them when i get home. They are usually dry from the drive home. I do the same with baits in the boat. They go in a bait hanger ro restocking later. Istole an idea from a buddy who went fishing with me in my boat for used lures when i go with others. He had an old large stadium cup that tapered at bottom to fit most cupholders. Drilled a couple holes for water to drain and threw lures in it. End of day he just picked it up with his other gear.

- Using the same rods and reels
Its a mix for me. I prefer the same rods for the same uses, ie i have a 7'mh-f avid i use for 3/8-1/2oz jigs, a 6'8" m-xf avid for worms, and looking for a 7' h-f avid for heavier jigs. I have 4 identical squarebill/small crank rods. I have a 683sf champion for senkos and 702sf champion for ned rigs. Reels im switching mostly to tatula ct's, but also have a few lews and recently picked up a curado 70.- Do folks still use this pistol grip style rod?
They make great rods for shooting docks.- Dobyns Fury 702 vs 703
After fishing with a champ 702 and champ 683, i would agree. I just picked up the 702 laat week, and used it today, and it handled casting the lighter ned rigs much better than the 683. On the 683 i stuck more with the 1/5oz neds, but today on the 702 i had no trouble at all with 1/20oz and could bomb a 1/5oz. I tried a senko texposed on the 702, and it was ok as well in open water, but the 683 was better in junk fishing. Both rods have a plueger supreme with 15# braid, so it was a pretty even comparison i felt.- Did switching to flourocarbon get you more bites?
I dont think you will ever find the clear answer to your question, because there is no clear answer. If there was it would already be known. I have used braid, flouro, and mono for most techniques at some point in my life. I think each has its merits and flaws. I stick with mostly flouro now, as a personal preference based on past experiences. I use flouro exclusively for cranking, worm/jigs, spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, and chatterbaits. I only use mono for topwater and buzzbaits. Braid is for my spinning gear, frogs, and flipping. On my spinning gear, i have had mixed results on wether braid or flouro was better. I always use 15# or 20# yellow pp8 and usually color the last few feet with a black sharpie. I have had diffrent times in the same lakes or ares where i started with a flouro leader, broke it off, and went to straight braid and saw no change, especially if they were more aggressive. Other times i hardly got a bite til i added a flouro leader. This spring i am going to try 25# flouro on a 2nd flipping set up and try it, based on reccomendations from a trusted local i fiah with. He and his tourny partner found last year that it worked better at times, especially more pressured areas and times. Their belief is that the fish were alerted and spooked some by the sound of the braid zipping on grass and wood when flipping.- What setups are you pitching 3/4 ounce jigs with?
7' mh-f bps green extreme currently. Rated to 1.5oz. Keeping an eye out for a 7'h-f avid though. 7:1 tatula ct with 20# invisx.- If I'm going to use straight braid on a spinning reel...
I use 15# or 20# yellow power pro slick 8 on all my spinning rods. I just dye it black for a few feet with a sharpie. In the dirty coosa river water around here its no problem. I have used a flouro leader on some crystal clear spring fed ponds as well as just the blacked out line and saw no diffrence. It may be diffrent on your local lakes though. Make sure you have a "braid ready spool" too, or use a few feet of mono backer. Its no fun when you set the hook on one, and it wont reel because the braid is slipping on the spool before drag kicks in.- Berkley fusion hooks
They came on some berkley jerkbaits i picked up. Crazy sticky sharp, but i have had 3 break on the 3rd wire/hook at the weld. So ive swapped them all out now to gamakatsu g finesse hooks- Split Ring Pliers are Too Big for Smaller Split Rings

Normally under armour sneakers in summer months in boat, will wear a pair of mid cool muck boots Tall rubber snakeproof lacrosse boots on bank fishing. Had a run in with a cottonmouth years back, so those and a ruger single six .22 are my essential bank gear now. Muck boots either way when temps drop. Which of my 3 pairs depends on temps.- Personal fishing bloopers
I fish a pasture pond pretty frequently. Good fishing and alot cheaper and easier than hooking up boat for a quick trip after work. I had already caught a few, and moved to a diffrent spot on shallower end of lake, where i want to fish earlier, but the cows were there drinking. Moved on over, and a few cast later i had a good one. Stepped back to set hook, slipped in a fresh cow patty and then landed in it with my butt and back. Got up, landed fish, and brushed off what i could and fished for a while longer. Thankfully i still had my insulated overalls in truck toolbox, so i didnt have to get crap on my truck seats or ride out in my undies. Would have been really embarassing getting out to open gates then.- Does anybody else use unconventional rods for bass fishing?
Ive used a 9' med surf rod some for a-rigs and swimbaits. Its what i had available that would handle baits that weight. It was just too heavy to do for long with a 6000 size reel. - Using the same rods and reels
