  1. St croix avid 7'mh-f. Very sensitive, versitile, with good tip action and plenty of backbone. I reccomend the standard over the x as well. I dont buy into the microeye koolaid. I keep a 3/8 or 1/2 jig on mine 24-7. Casts very well, but the tip action lets me pitch super easy too.
  2. I have the st croix 6'8"med in an avid casting, with a lews speed spool and 15# flouro. I found it to be a good tex rig rod, but hard to control at times with a weightless senko. I ended up going to a 683 dobyns champion spinning rod for that and its amazing. I actually have better control with it when casting. I paired it with a pflueger supreme and 15# slick8. I even use it for ned rigs down to 1/15oz some.
  3. I stick with power pro slick 8 for all my braid use. I prefer the yellow as well for line watching.
  4. Cranks and spinnerbaits: 8-14 flouro Worm n jigs: 15-18 flouro Flipping/pitch/punch: 65 braid Frog: 40 braid Spinning rods: 10-15 braid, occasional flouro leader Topwater: 10-12 mono, except whopper plopper, its thrown on frog rod w/ braid
  5. No. I found out that the machine that stamped those out was bought by ed chambers of zoom. I have tried contacting zoom about it, but to no avail. One of the tricks of that blade was that it was stamped in a way that one side was just a few hundredths thinner, so that it threw the balance off a touch and made it thump a lil harder.
  6. Have some spinnerbaits with a particular blade i cant get anymore. Have searched high and low, and no luck finding more.
  7. This is what i use. Keeps tension on spool. Sticks well to clean gelcoat or windsheild. I always set it to come off top of roll on baitcasters and bottom of spool for spinning, no matter the line type.
  8. What about in the case of full on submersion? I know it happened a few times before. Usually it was a rogue wave came in when i waded out deeper on sandbar to get further out. I tried to keep reel up high but a few waves hit it when i got chest deep to cast.
  9. I just recently purchased a new reel (penn batttle 2 6000) for surf fishing at the beach. What care is reccomended for daily cleaning as well as after the trip to the beach? I have 65# braid on it. Last reel i rinsed off every day when i rinsed my feet off in shower last year, but was locked up when i picked it up to get ready for my beach trip. It was only $40 for the combo, so i didnt expect much, but i wantes to try surf fishing. I have since upgraded the rod and reel for this year, and i want to keep them in better shape.
  10. I do a deep clean and degrease the bearings on my reels when i take them out of the box. I have found several that came with too much grease, at least for my liking, from the factory. I then re-oil and grease them and spool them up. Then its a deep clean before each spring, and oil as needed on worm gear and other parts.
  11. Only on a double fluke rig...
  12. Boomerang snip or swiss army knife.
  13. Pitching creature Spinnerbait 1/2oz football jig 7" worm Squarebill
  14. I sometimes use a skirt, and others i dont. Most of my flipping is done with 65#braid and a palomar knot with a 4/0 tk130 trokar hook. When i use a skirt, i use a seperate wire tied punch skirt from sieberts, i dont buy the skirted punch weights. I feel like it keeps my options open. I can use it or not, and its quicker on color changes, Most importantly of all, its much cheaper. I only buy the bare weights i would use anyway, and a handfull of skirts, instead of skirted weights in each weight, and each color skirt. I tried the snell knot, but found it kind of a pain to tie and pull up tight on the tk130's bait keeper. Went back to a palomar i can tie in a few seconds, and have not noticed a diffrence in hook ups. Its just a convenience more than confidence thing for me.
  15. I prefer boca bearing lightning oil. Save the olive oil for pan frying the catch...
  16. X2 I think each line has its own place, but mono is the most versatile.
  17. I tie nite before. I usually have a good idea of what i plan to do then, based on personal experience and chatter from trusted buddies. I try that gameplan first and adjust/retie from there.
  18. Sweet. Im just glad i waited til after lunch to order and saw this. Great prices made even better. Fyi. It showed the shipping charge on my order as well, but about an hour later i got an email from paypal about the refunded shipping. Thanks again to siebert for the great jigs and reasonable prices. Only place i go for jigs or tungsten.
  19. I use a 5:1 for mag/deep cranks like the 8.0 squarebill and 8/10xd. In 6:1 would be ok for those too, as well as a good a-rig or swimbait choice.
  20. I use the one shaw grigsby shows on youtube on flouro. Braid and mono get a palomar.
  21. 7'mh-f standard avid 7:1 tatula ct 20# sunline shooter Thats my jig setup. I was using 40# braid but got tired of it. Kept digging into spool and using flouro leaders also for abrasion, so i went back to straight flouro. No dig in, and one knot.
  22. Check dobyns website as well. I have bought a few rods used from them, that were trade in rods.
  23. Most always i use one. I even make my skirts for them with a few long tabs that look like a trailer to help mask the trailerhook. If i am flipping one into thick nasty cover i will undo it some, but otherwise its always on. I let mine freeswing, putting hook on then tubing, rather than tubing over hook eye.
  24. I use them often on front hooks for squarebills and jerkbaits. I have not noticed a diffrence in sharpness.
  25. Sorry, I wish i could tell you, but all the labels have long worn off, and i cant remember anytging on it. Im not sure its even made anymore. 18' are the longest ive seen too now. I picked mine up over 10 years ago now. Store i bought it at quit selling fishing gear 8 or 9 years ago too. I can tell you the ones at bps are just like it, but with one less extention.
