  1. are you sure a rock didn't cut it?spiderwire stinks.fireline's new 8 strand braid is the best imho followed by sufix.powerpro is an outdated 4 strand braid.all the rest are pretenders.YOU SHOULD ALSO BE USING AT LEAST 65 LB TEST.the thicker line will withstand more abrasion and will not dig into your spool.it is only 15 lb diameter.
  2. tie to spool and then put electrical tape over it.if you want to use less line then use more tape.i never use leaders.use a palomar knot and crazy glue the tag end so it doesn't fray.and use fireline braid.
  3. gotta disagree.no way is a graphite frame president better than an aluminum frame medalist.i've broken many a neck on a graphite frame spinning reel fighting 5 pound largies in the weeds . this will never happen with an aluminum frame medalist or president xt.
  4. the medalist is a great reel.do not buy a reel with a graphite frame.they flex and can break.that rules out the trion and the regular president.the president xt and medalist are both aluminum and have no flex.if you could save a few more $ you could get a supreme which is awesome for $99.
  5. never had a problem hooking fish on ewg hooks.maybe it's not a bass but a panfish tapping your bait.bass swallow the bait and it's almost impossible not to get a hook in when you set with an ewg.
  6. i use a palomar.i only glue the tag end to prevent fraying.i've never had one slip.
  7. i'm with muddy on this one.technique specific rods are a gimmick.one man's opinion of what makes a good spinnerbait or shakey head rod is not the same as anothers.and who says rods can only be used for one technique?what a bunch of b.s..
  8. gotta respectfully disagree with you.if the reel was under for anytime it got water in it at the very least.then to use it for months afterward without service is abuse.
  9. first of all you should blame yourself.it should have been cleaned and lubed immediately after the dunking.to go on using it without service is foolish.it's like driving a car with no oil in the engine and then blaming the manufacturer when it seizes.the plastic parts are usually designed to break instead of something else.a lot of times they are like fuses in an electrical system.suck it up and send it in for repair.
  10. you might be able to get a trion on ebay for that.
  11. centrifugal is best.both is better.get a pflueger patriarch!!!
  12. and who told you graphite frames suck? ;D
  13. get another trion!!!or better yet a patriarch!!!i would not buy any pflueger reel under the trion.as everyone here knows i am a major pflueger fan but i will not buy any reel with a graphite frame.
  14. no it will not cut into alconite guides or sic guides.i have a johnny morris elite with recoil guides on it that i keep checking.i've heard of issues with recoils and powerpro but i have not had any yet.with braid you don't have to gorilaa set hooks and i suggest you loosen your drag a bit.the no stretch can break rods with gorilla sets and it can straighten and put holes in a bass's mouth during a fight.you might want to use superline hooks in heavy cover.
  15. i fish nothing but johnny morris signature series rods.imho there is no better rod for the money.
  16. fireline came out years ago and it's a fused line not a braid.it frays and unravels terribly.they recently came out with fireline braid.it is new and says braid on the box.crystal is just white fireline with all the same issues.you sound like a brand new braid user so let me tell you that braid is a completely different animal.it requires changing the way you fish because it has no stretch and is limp.i have used braid for approx. 16 years now and have been through a lot of different brands.none of them are perfect.i truely believe berkley got it right with the new fireline braid.i feel it's as good as it gets with braid.here's a picture of the box.they also make a tracer braid with alternating colors so you can see it better.i personally don't like the idea but others may.i can fill 4 narrow spool baitcasters with a 300 yard box of 65 pound test.that's around 10 bucks a reel.
  17. solve all your problems with fireline braid.
  18. strip it off and put on 65 lb fireline braid.no color bleed on your reels and no digging.hardly any noise through the guides compared to the other 2.
  19. 8 strand braid are fireline braid, diawa braid, spiderwire ultracast(imho stinks) 6 strand braid is sufix 4 strand braids are powerpro and most others 4 strand braids are not as round as 8 strand braids.they are not as smooth and make more noise.they dig into the spool more. 6 strand sufix is an improvement.sufix is ok but the color bled all over my reels. 8 strand is the way to go.a lot of guys also like the diawa braid.i think it is to soft imho.
  20. From the stone age? I tried Firline a while ago and it is absolute garbage IMO! I had it break on little snags so i bought new spool, same thing! not regular fieline!!!regular fireline is not a braid.the new fireline braid is totally different!!!
  21. as i have said before, powerpro is from the stone age.the new berkley fireline braid (not regular fireline) in 65 lb is my choice.
