The copper based lenses are going to better for all conditions (sunny to cloudy) and the green mirror are going to better if its sunny most of the time. At least that is my interpretation...
  2. I would have to say st.croix mojo bass but if you want to stay away from st.croix then I would go with something from dobyns.
  3. I use a 6' St. Croix Avid UL. I like the higher sensitivity of this rod but I also fish for crappie a lot so I didn't have a problem justifying the price tag. St. Croix makes a panfish that is really nice for the price. The 6'9" would be good for getting some distance for those light jigs. If you are fishing open water Berkley Nanofil or Suffix Nanobraid are far superior to braid or mono as far as casting distance goes. You do run into some issues if you are fishing in brush, which is pretty likely while crappie fishing.
  4. Spinning rods tend to be slightly different than casting rods. In my experience a XF spinning rod is not too similar to an XF casting rod. So, in my opinion, a XF spinning would okay for treble baits but a F would be better. Although you didnt mention it, I think the NEW St. Croix Mojo Bass rods are the best "bang for the buck" rod right now. They have the same graphite (SCIII) as the avid x does but at 80$ less.
  5. Precision Trolling. There is a wealth of info in that book. There is also a precision trolling app but that runs like 100$...
  6. I agree with the others. While the avid was a good rod in the price range, to me the avid x offers so much more value.
  7. Look at the st.croix panfish series! Premier also. But I prefer the panfish
  8. This has been the story of the season for the other people that I am hunting with and was for me before the right doe walked by my stand. We are seeing some really impressive numbers of big deer this year...If Iowa had a gun season during the rut we would have had an unbelievable year. That being said, I am perfectly happy and prefer that Iowa doesn't have a season during the rut.
  9. The differences are the guides and handle. The guides are much improved over the legend extreme and handle is personal preference.
  10. I find myself fishing for walleye and crappie first and foremost and then bass. I am slowly beginnig to fish bass more but the learning curve is large and I have no people to follow, but even if I did I think walleye and crappie would still take priority for me. Smallmouth would be the bass species to overtake walleye or crappie I think.
  11. I was out last weekend in Iowa and I will say that the big boys were running! We saw a shooter or two every sit just didnt have them close enough. We have been hunting this land for awhile and have never had a weekend like that...I guess thats what happens when you dont shoot a buck for a couple years haha. I will be out again this weekend with high hopes. The weather looks infinitely better then last weekend (highs in the 70's for friday, saturday, and sunday...
  12. This is what I run on my UL's and absolutely love this reel, the suggestion I gave above was to not spend 200$ on an UL reel. I don't know if i will ever get another spinning reel that isnt the CI4+...
  13. Pflueger just came out with the president xt which is basically the same as the president limited edition. I would go with this in size 25. I use shimano size 1000 on my UL's and that is equivalent to pflueger size 25. I do not think it will be too much reel.
  14. I dont really know.. MLFX spinning, MHF casting and MHMF casting I guess..Pretty similar to what I am running right now lol
  15. I have a 6'0 st.croix avid and love it for 1/32 and 1/16 oz jigs(this size is the best it seems) the new president xt spinning reels by pflueger are good looking reels for the price point.

LOL mixed bag of opinions. Looks like I will just be forming my own opinions on some new cranks!

So what are you using for this depth?
  18. Loomis13 replied to Loomis13's topic in Fishing Tackle
Haha yeah, I own a ton of Rapala! Like them but do think they are out done in certain areas. I use a lot shad raps and JSR's for walleye.

Does anybody have opinions, good or bad, on these cranks? Or something you like better for this depth? Am looking at picking some up but don't really want to spend that much on a crank if there is a better option. Thanks
  20. Correct they are not same rod but the same graphite. They have their differences but for the 70$ difference IMO there isn't a large enough difference to justify spending more. Unless of course warranty is a concern of yours. The avid has a lifetime warranty and the mojos have a 15 year warranty. (These could be inaccurate I am just going off the top of my head)
  21. I work at a large st.croix dealer in Iowa, and to me the two rods shouldn't even be compared to each other. The new mojos are the best bang for your buck by st.croix right now in my opinion. I know people say that about the avid but the new mojos are using the same graphite and 70$ cheaper, feature a split grip (which is good if you like split grips). All this is being said while I have two avids sitting in my dorm room and I am looking at the mojos or ponying up to the legend tournament. The new mojos are a sweet rod for ~130$. The premier and avids (not avid x's) are seemingly skipped over with the introduction of the new mojos and avid x's.
  22. Thanks for the comments guys
  23. Well I wasn't really referring to a powerful hook set but I have never used FC so I may need to give it a shot. I just can't seem to get past the stretch of any other kind line except braid..maybe I'll learn someday.
  24. I saw the rods on sale at tackle warehouse but I am looking at a spinning rod. The place I work at has some left and they have been there for awhile...
  25. Well I have got Alabama, Mich. St., Stanford, and FSU. Big 12 beats themselves up. Stanford has 1 loss in a tough Pac 12 and Mich. St. happens to beat both OSU and Mich. with an unexpected loss. Alabama may go undefeated, who knows. Clemson gets beat in ACC title game by FSU for their second loss. HAHAHA what if all this happens?? Oh well. Predictions are fun. Almost as much as the season itself. So excited for it to get here!!!
