  1. If you stop by richmond you should give shad a shot, they're about 2lbs each and they fight haarrddd, harder than the same size bass imo!
  2. I had a curado on a 6'6" MH fast st croix avid, it was a dream to cast until i broke it, but it was a great set-up. Also like other have said any baitcaster can backlash, just gotta set it up properly which is half the battle.
  3. grats J! nice fish!
  4. Grats J! good job! I must have missed this thread, better late than never! GJ!
  5. I've recently been shad fishing from the shore in Richmond, VA, the shad run is really popular in this area and I've been a few times. I've seen many people use the trolling sinkers (main line tied to one end and leader side tied to the other) I get the feeling that the weight would kind of mute the feeling you'd get from a bite, but swivels on a C-rig are similar...any one have any ideas on this? I was thinking maybe an Egg sinker above a swivel as an alternative.
  6. I've recently started using flouro for a braid leader works great, but it is another thing I have to worry about... anyways, I've never used mono as a leader but for the fluoro I use about 3-5ft tied with the alberto knot to my main line.
  7. Our Technician will determine whether to repair or replace your rod keeping in mind we'll only repair it if we can make it perform like new. yea, read that part, but I guess for me, even though I know it'll work like brand new, in the back of my mind I'd still know it was once broken =/ confidence thing I guess =D Looks like I'll be upgrading to the LT then! I also remembered that I bought the Avid on sale for ~$110 so that sweetens the deal even more =D
  8. According to the st croix site they have 3 levels of the warranty Silver - if it's a problem that stemmed from a fault of theirs, you send in $20 and the rod and they'll either repair or replace Gold - If you messed the rod up (ohhh, like slamming it against a rock like me : ) then you send the rod in plus $50 and they'll either repair or replace it. Gold + upgrade - like the gold but if you want to upgrade it you send in the difference ($50 in my case) plus the $50 needed in the original gold warranty. What gets me is the repair part of their warranty...I think i'd just rather have a new rod. Also as I recall from talking to one of their customer service reps...it might take up to 2 weeks to get the rod back =/ (someone please correct me if i'm wrong)
  9. I was shad fishing on some rocks earlier to day when a nice one hit...I forgot there was a large rock next to me...I set the hook and before I knew it about 4 inches of my rod tip comes sliding down the line =( St croix has pretty much the same warranty as Loomis...if it's your fault send it in with $50 and they'll repair or replace it...they also offer a deal where you can upgrade the rod...send the rod in with $50 + the difference of value between the rod you want and the rod you currently have and they'll send you that rod... For me I broke my avid, even though it's the older model (no IPC etc..) it's still considered worth 180. The Legend tourney bass rod of the same power and action is 230. $50 to send it in $50 to upgrade...trade in my Avid + 100 for a Legend? Worth it?
  10. Ok turns out what i thought was herring was actually Hickory shad. I was at Ancarrow's on the James today....wow the bite was on FIRE. In 3 hours I caught 20+. They were biting yellow shat darts with a small yellow 1inch grub, both gold and silver spoons! These guy's aren't small either, about 2-3lbs each and they fight hard =D ...I set the hook so many times my side hurts now
