  1. I have a 6'6" MLF Avid The rod itself is great, light and sensitive, however I hate the reel seat. It tightens on the reel from the bottom up and after an hour or 2 of casting the knob loosens. Maybe it's just this one particular rod, but it's made me wary of the croix spinning rods or any rods that have reel seats similar.
  2. I use fluoro leader on my braid in case...also cause it cuts the cost of using braid down....snip away at the leader instead of slowly eating the braid up.
  3. Love me some Five Guys! Their cajun fries are awesome and the free toppings are a nice touch. Had some in-and-out for the first time last week also, their patties are kinda thin for the reg burger, next time I need to get the 4x4 ;D ... their fresh, cut-in-store, fries really suck though...all 3 times they've been soggy, frozen fries end up crispier I think.
  4. Yea the east side of the lake has some nice drop offs. Drop offs don't really have to be deep. Just any vertical wall type deal will work. Along the east side there's a few that go from 2-12ft which will normally hold fish. Subtle holes will hold some also, along Woolridge it's around 5ft but there are a few holes that dip to about 8-9ft that fish like to hang in. The old road bed is nice also. Try swift creek lake in pocahontas, it's a great fishery too and tons of overhangs, laydowns, pads, ect, to toss into. and yes I throw almost all back in unless I feel like keeping some that's within a slot regulated lake. Sometimes keeping the smaller ones will help a fishery.
  5. Heya, swift creek res is the one off hull/genito Swift creek lake and beaver lake are within the Pocahontas state park. The res and the lakes aren't connected by anything larger than small creeks, I had a hard time getting to beaver lake from swift creek lake in my kayak. The fish in my avatar came from the swift creek lake in the park. Try skipping senkos under the overhangs and spinnerbaits along the laydowns. As for Swft creek res, there's a bunch of drop offs that you can find with the depth finder and there's an old bed road that runs through the res. Some fish from the swift creek lake in Pocahontas... 4.5 2.5 Pickerel
  6. So the bobber is kinda in the middle of the line and the hook is tied to the end? Like you're drop shotting the bobber almost?
  7. So I'm trying get get my gf's little cousin's into fishing and I feel like bluegill fishing would be the perfect gateway fish. So I set out to the local walmart and buy some bobbers, small pre-snelled hooks, and some bait. These bobbers I bought are long and the float is in the middle with a pointy section at the bottom. Near the top there's a section that sticks out with a spring on it, under the spring is a notch... So how do I use this thing?
  8. Wow back from the dead twice! 05->07->09
  9. yea probably snakes, i've never seen them travel in a group like that though but they usually won't bother you unless you step on them or something. I have the most luck along the rocks and the coves on both sides...probably cause those are the only places I fish... ;D
  10. Wow, hundreds of dead cat fish is normal? Strange. All of the bass being legal size is strange too. Keep us updated!
  11. sierratradingpost.com new buyers get 20% off their first order I think! I got the costa del mar Tropic Star glasses there when they had them. They were around $60 and come with switchable Grey/Amber/Yellow lenses, all of which are polarized. I use them now and love em!
  12. UV light is even lower in wavelength than blue...blue is the last to get filtered out...so...UV rays can actually pass through water farther than normal visible light. Otherwise those UV water purifiers wouldn't work. As for helping with bass fishing...I dunno!
  13. did ya go? been meaning to to that this summer!
  14. I feel really bad....due to unforeseen circumstances I had to flake =( Just wanted to say sorry :-/
  15. Senko They're kinda expensive though and rip easily...I prefer the basspro stick-o's and the *** version also, though in my experience the *** ones aren't as heavy
