POLL: NRX Plus MBR vs Conquest MBR
Wish the conquest had more models. Still hate the baby blue color threads on the NRX.

Rigging a shaky head
These look good but it seems that my hook up ratio on these is not as good. I seem to miss more fish and once hooked they sometimes come off. Maybe it's the thicker hook, not really sure. I seem to have better luck with regular shaky heads like the spot sticker or owner shaky head design. I normally only use light #6 fluro or #8 to #10 braid.

Shimano Curado 150 MGL vs. Shimano Scorpion MGL
The new curado seems to be an all new frame. I have not seen this frame on any other shimano reels. Its suppose to be the lightest curado series to date. It does look interesting. It may be the only curado I pick up since the last few variations. But there seems to be a lot of lines and crevices on the frame. It reminds me of the prehistoric fish- dunkleosteus's skull. That's probably just the my imagination see it, though.

Do I have enough, or do I listen to the bait monkey?
If the river is in northern Georgia, it may be stocked with trout. You may want to check GA regulations on that particular river. I'm in SC and many of our mountain streams are stocked with trout. We dont have too many regulations on most of our rivers.

A couple of wierd or odd things I saw on the water...
I was fishing for bluegills and redbreast in my local lake. A normal float, splitshot and hook rig on #4 line. I hooked into a catfish about 2lbs. As i fought it, it got twisted around my line and got slime all over it. Got it to the boat and i tried to grab the leader to pull it in. Well my line broke right at the knot. I was looking at my line to clean the slim off and retie another hook on. Strangely, some how my splitshot ended up above my float in the battle. I dont know how this is even physically possible. It defies any logical explanation. In the picture, that slime ball above my float is my splitshot.

Curado 150 MGL
I'll try one or two or three. But I'll just wait until they're available and can find a good deal on them. I normally dont pay full price for my gear unless it's JDM or something on the cheaper side. Pretty much if the savings are not worth the wait. I have way too much gear as it is. I really don't need more but that darn monkey has a hold of my wallet.

Do you generally find baitcasters to be more or less difficult to use than spinning for river smallmouth?
If I'm bank fishing, I usually prefer spinning. Its easier to cast in tight places. Handle smaller lures better. And if I snag a twig or limb, I don't have to worry about backlash. It just makes life much easier.

What lures best mimic mosquito fish?
They do make an excellent food source for smaller bass hanging around in the shallows though. I've also caught some nice crappies using the large female mosquito fish as bait.

Shimano Stella FJ fishing reels - next update?
I do love the body style of the Stella FJ. I think it's a super sexy looking reel. And it is super smooth. But I do prefer the Daiwa Exist LT to the Stella. The Exist is lighter, smoother and takes less inertia to spin the handle. I think even the Luvias airity is on par or better than the Stella. Definitely lighter in weight. I do feel that a new Stella and Exist should be on the horizon soon though. I think the only improvement they can make to the Stella is making it lighter. Not sure what Daiwa can to the Exist. That reel is so light already.

Rod Locker Pics ~
With that many combos in the rod locker, with my luck, the one I need would happen to be at the very bottom.

Shimano Zodias rod
The shimano site you listed above shows the old model. I believe there are new models in the Zodias lineup now. Shimano is not great at updating their website.

Shimano Zodias rod
I also enjoy using light tackle. Its makes smaller fish, which is what I mainly catch, fun. And when you hook into a better fish, you actually have to play it to get it to the boat.

Next Shimano reel, part 7?
Bantam mgl PG or Conquest 100 or 200. Or Curado K in 5.0 gears. These should take care of your cranking needs. Both the bantam and Conquest are buttery smooth.

Shimano Suggested Line # Test > Inches
If you are going to use fluro, I would suggest at least a 2500 sized reel. Just for the larger spool to help with line coils. I love my 1000 and 2000 sized reels. I only use braid and mono on them. For fluro, i went with 2500 sized reels. Most people would suggest going up to a 3000 or 4000 sized reel. But to me, thats just too big. I am like you. I love the feel of an ultra light weight spinning combo. Thats why most of my combos are 1000 to 2000 size only.

What kind is these snakes?
Yep. Looks like a male and female water snake making more water snakes. I had one about 2.5' long almost climb up my leg when I was thigh deep trout fishing in a river a few weeks back. It must had thought I was a tree or log in the river. I had to scare it away at the last second before it tried to climb up my leg.

Striper Reel
The curado 200 and trans 200 is pretty much the same reel. Curado has more bearings and weights less. Maybe try a tranx 300 for alittle more line capacity. Some of them stripers can make decent runs.

Old Braid Or Mono For Bait Cast Reel Backing ?
I dont think it will really make any difference. I use old mono from other reels as backing sometimes because that line will never see daylight. Plus mono wont dig into itself like braid will.

Best way to catch catfish without catching turtles?
I normally catch a few each time I go catfishing. Usually softshells but sometimes snapping turtles and occasionally a yellow belly or red ear slider. They are kind of a pain in the butt, especially the soft shells because they a so fast and aggressive. Catfish and turtles eat the same things, so catching them is inevitable. I've had a few times when I caught more turtles than I did catfish.

Help! Is this an older Lews reel?
Those were great reels when they came out. I believe retail price was around $150. Almost the same performance as the Tournament Pros for less money. They weighed more than the Tournament Pros and didn't have the carbon fiber handle. I had four in my line up along with some Tournament Pros. They were built like tanks. I used mine for crankbaits and spinnerbaits. They cast well and were smooth on the retreive. Couldn't had asked for more.

Heatwave!!!
I'm in SC. Today was in the mid 80's. But it did drizzle a little this morning. Its suppose to be about 89 degrees the next two days. Then about 76 on Friday with some rain. We are pretty humid down here though.

How to sell rods and reels
List the gear in the flea market section. Simple as that

Shimano Expride
Same here. Daiwa makes some great spinning reels. Actually there both do, I just like the Daiwas due to being lighter weight and better looking. Most of my baitcasters are shimano. Most of my rods are shimano.

Daiwa exceller drag issue
Is the drag knob stripped? Are you using straight braid on the spool? I can't think of any other reason the drag would fail.

Your Favourite size spinning reels
My main criteria for a bass spinning reel is being lightweight. All these reels are around 6.7 oz or less in weight - preferably less. My bass spinning reels are 1000, 2000 and 2500 size. For trout - 500, 750 and 1000 size. The 500 and 750 size are my ultralight reels, which I also use for crappie and other panfish. I have way more fun on light tackle. 3000 size and larger are for other species like catfish and stripers. The only spinning reels I have larger than 3000 size are my baitrunner type reels.
