  1. The daiwa presso rods have a moderate action. I have the 6', 6'6" and 7' models. All are pretty soft tipped. I use the 6' model for stream trout. The 6'6" for tiny crankbaits and the 7' for 1" gulp minnows under a floater. Any of these would work well for tiny trebles. For jigging, I use my rapala 6'6" ultralights. They have a fast action and are more sensitive. I also have the okuma celilo 6' and shakespear 5' micro series ultralights. I would consider the okuma a moderate fast and the shakespear more of a moderate. The size 14 are very small hooks though and it would be hard to keep a fish pinned on those hooks. A larger hook would definitely help. As long as it doesn't change the action of the lure.
  2. The sienna is a fairly inexpensive reel. Why not just buy another one. Parts will probably be half the price of a new reel
  3. You should contact shimano or take it back to the store.
  4. I use #6 fluorocarbon on two of my 2500 size reels. I spray with KVD line conditioner and I've had no problems. Just be sure to use a nice limp fluro and you'll be fine. I use Seagur invizx and Daiwa J-Fluro. I'm sure other quality brands would work as well. I like the fluro because of the slack line sensitivity. It's better than braid on mono.
  5. I have only tried the 6lbs test and really like it. Maybe just me, but I found it very similar to Seagur invizix.
  6. What reel and line are you using on the 6' okuma celilo?
  7. Those look like big green sunfish. They do hybridize with bluegills though.
  8. How is the stem flex on it? I heard the new material is more rigid than the one on the old reel.
  9. Any noticable difference between the new model and the old model? Other than color.
  10. What size gulp minnows are you using? I usually use the 1" version for panfish. Hookup isn't too bad if the fish are big enough to take it into their mouths. I'll put the 1" minnow on a 1/32 oz or less jig head and fish it under a float. I have caught bass up to 3 pounds on this little minnow. Catfish also seem to love gulp minnows. Really fun on ultralight tackle.
  11. You can use a swivel and leader if you like but its not necessarily since you are already using copolymer. You can just use some split shots above the hook as weight. One trick to not lose your float is to put another bobber stop under your float. Usually closer to the sinker, so you can still make good cast. If you get stuck and break off, the bobber stop will keep your float from coming off your line. I also use minnows for trout fishing in the winter. Same technique as you mentioned. But i use high visibility braid as a main line to a swivel with a mono leader. The advantage of braid is further casting and i can see my line better to take up the slack if its windy.
  12. I had my monofilament get weak and brittle from the heat. But it was mainly the lower weights that i noticed it on. The Z-man plastics will melt and loose its shape. I had to throw several bags away because they got deformed. I try not to leave anything in a hot boat, if i dont have too. The sun will take its toll on any form of plastics. I have a Academy 5 gallon bucket in my Starcraft under a boat cover and the letters on the bucket have faded over two years.
  13. That's the same one I use for weightless worms. I wish the expride came in a 6'10" med version. I like the 7' med also, but find a slightly shorter rod better at not hitting the trolling motor.
  14. What model expride are you using?
  15. I have bought several reels from there. Never had any problems, other than long shipping time. Usually around a month wait. They offer different models and gear ratios.
  16. If you cant straighten it out, your best bet is to just order one from shimano. You can probably order any handle you like, since all 200 size and smaller are interchangeable. Just make sure your handle nut cap fits it. Or order a new one with the handle.
  17. My first baitcast reel I purchased was a silstar. Dont remember the model number but I purchased a silstar pistol grip rod to go with it. It was in the late 80's.
  18. I find myself using more spinning reels lately. Last few times out, i only had two baitcasters on deck, and about 6 spinning combos. Light line fishing is way more fun.
  19. I've been using the 6'8" med expride this year for weightless trick worms. To me the 6'8" med feels a tad less powerful than the 7' med expride. Their ratings are the same, but there seems to be a slight power difference. I use the 7' med for weightless senkos. I wish there was a 6'10 med expride available.
  20. I have only thrown shakeyheads on my landsat but i really like the rod. I'm sure it would do fine with neds and drop shot. Too me, the power of the rod is more towards the medium side of medium light. Its in between my 6'10" med light expride and 7' med expride. A good balance of finesse and power.
  21. I use the landsat for my shakey head. Since u already have the wind buster, the landsat would be the next logical step. Not sure, if it could handle a senko though, since they are fairly heavy.
  22. Also, make sure your spool only has a little side to side play. If it is too loose, tighten the cast control knob. A loose spool will also make a clacking noise.
  23. The friction rings are probably woreout on the reels. If you take the rotors off, it will be the rubber ring that is against the body. Its probably black or blue in color and may have groves for the bail trip lever to fit into. Shimano doesn't make it for that particular reel anymore but other models may fit it. I've have to replace a few before.
  24. I have kept a few lately due to them swallowing the hook. I normally don't like to keep bass, but they weren't going to make it. So into the frying pan. Not too bad. Better than I remembered them to be.
  25. I know the daiwa website say 4.4 lbs of drag but that may be a misprint. I've seen errors on the daiwa site before. Also been a saltwater reel, the BG2000 will handle just about any bass. I think you'll be fine with it, or you could choose another Daiwa LT reel. They are all pretty good.
