  1. Skipping is my best skill but I dont do it from that far. 50 feet is probably my max. , but I prefer 20-30 feet. Better control at that distance. Even though its much closer than the average cast the subtle presentation does not spook the fish. One of my favorite patterns is fixing to start. With the warmer days, fish begin moving under docks after 11 a.m or so, and skipping is the ticket then for a good catch. I LOVE SKIPPING !!
  2. Caught a few bull whiting with my grandson Tyler yesterday near St Augustine Inlet. My son ( who does some commercial fishing ) was in the area too, and had caught so many there a few days ago he didnt bother counting them all. All in all , a good morning, and got Tyler off the video games for awhile.
  3. Ive been bass fishing for 44 years and have not heard of this before. I havent had any trouble with drags except for the cheap reels Ive owned .
  4. I fish texas rigged soft plastics as weieghtless as possible, esp. since I fish mostly shallow lakes here in Fl. I cast , let it sink to the bottom, watching and feeling for anything that would indicate a strike. After a 10-20 second wait, while keeping slight contact with the bait, I lift gently. If a fish has taken it you will usually feel a distinct thump, and usually the fish will be swimming in a direction instead of staying stationary. Then, just reel up most of the slack and set the hook. A fish will peck or pull. Structure will not. If a fish is swimming toward you, it will be indicated by lack of contact with the bait for longer than usual while you are reeling in to regain contact. I dont fish jigs much, but with them anything that feels out of the ordinary just set the hook , and this isnt a bad idea for soft plastics fished texas rigged either.
  5. Got a few this evening with my G-daughter Mackayla. She got the first fish on a 4 inch red and green sparkle watermelon senko. I got a couple more about the same size on the Zoom fluke.
  6. That happenned to me once when I connected the positive clamp to the negative post and the negative to positive by mistake. If thats not it I have no idea.
  7. We fish for reds a lot but use live bait mostly. You'll probably be fishing Nassau county waters which I dont know . We do well in creeks in Duval and st Johns. With the wind creeks may be your only option in a small boat. We tend to do best at oyster bars . Let us know how it goes !
  8. I cant tell the difference either sometimes. I have even swatted at the floaters a couple times. Hopefully you werent seeing termite swarmers.?
  9. In my lake the bass often bed right off my bank.( as they are right now ) I watch them every year. I always see the small males first as the beds become visible. Without a doubt, they are locked in and sometimes wont even swim off when I get close. These little bucks are very aggressive and will attack most anything you throw. I dont see the big females on the nests very often in the daytime at my lake ( although I often see them at other spots ) They are around though, as I catch them in the bedding areas, For some reason , I seem to do best on the big girls in the middle of the day, or right at nightfall. One thing I used to do was catch the male and keep him in the livewell while fishing for the female. It seemed like that made catching the female easier. Today there were two bass of equal size hanging together at one of the beds. One was the fair sized male that had been guarding the nest for awhile. The next full moon should signal the last major bedding activity here until next year...
  10. I walk about 25 feet from my back door !? Got ponds all over within 5 - 30 minutes if I get bored at home ( which isnt that often) Got a ramp to the St Johns 5 -10 minutes away. All the bigger lakes are 45- 1 1/2 hours away. I dont fish them much nowdays though.
  11. Got it set up this morning for April. I had almost ordered that test kit instead, but they said 6% of the time it doesnt detect cancer, and 10% of the time it does a false positive saying you have cancer when you dont. With those kind of innacuracies, I decided to just go ahead and do the colonoscopy.
  12. Thanks for the push to do it. Im 57 and have been putting it off. The doc just set it up .I need to call and make the appt. Just a little nervous about anything going up in there !!!? But it beats the alternative.
  13. I'll put the situation on my prayer list. Things will work for good eventually. Its sad people are so selfish and greedy. He's missing out on major blessings, sir.
  14. Impossible to pick one. Merle Haggard ,Alan Jackson , Hank Jr. A few Brad Paisley songs. Without a doubt, Sara Evans is my fav. Female C. Singer. Im not a fan of new " country ". I was never too much into the old , old country ( like Hank sr.) I like the country of the 70s ( except when it went pop for awhile )til about 10 years ago the best. More of an old traditional bluegrass fan than anything else now.
  15. Good job Evan !

  17. Most of our lakes are 45 minutes to 1 1/2 hours away., but there's always the St johns river and its tributaries.? Closest ramp to the river is 10 minutes.
  18. A 9 lbder is huge for the St Marys. Ive only fished the stretch between hwy 301 and the railroad trestle.
