  1. yeah, I hardly every check this section, but I just happened to the other day and found this gem.
  2. I can't see how that wouldn't tangle on the cast. Also, that's going to require a pretty sturdy rod with all the resistance it is going to create.
  3. I only saw the highlights but Kellen Winslow Jr is a JOKE! I don't know how that guy is in the NFL. It's not even just the game, it goes all the way back to his idiotic motorcycle accident.
  4. I am going to be trying some of these tips this fall and winter. If I don't do well with my jerkbait collection I've gathered, look for some deals in the flea market section come spring.
  5. Just keep moving, only stop to reload and when you do, make sure you are well hidden, crouching and even laying behind seats works. Use your flashbangs alot. If you don't want to reload, grab other people's weapons as you kill them, it gives you constant ammo and it's quicker than reloading.
  6. Same here Dan, I love the feel of connecting on a fish. As for spiral wrap... It really depends on where you're living or how "in the know" people are around you. I've known about spiral wrapping for about 2 years now but I've NEVER seen one being used where I fish in VA nor have I seen any sold in stores or online from major rod companies like st croix, loomis etc. Megabass is the only one I know of that makes spiral wrapped rods but of course they're the uber expensive japanese rods... So as a rule of thumb Dan's reply still holds true Me neither. In general it isn't very common. You pretty much have to get it custom made. Simon, I may get a spiral wrapped rod by christmas, not sure yet though.
  7. Watch how this guy does it: My roommate beat it on Veteran but it took lots of tries and yelling. EDIT: new video added.
  8. The feeling I get from a strong hook set on a texas rig or weightless plastic is a big part of the fun of fishing for me.
  9. isn't "Ding Dong" the obvious pairing for "Ho-Hos"?
  10. haha, that musky looks stoned.
  11. Spiral wrapping is an exception. And the idea behind it is that when the guides are on the top of the rod, it naturally makes the rod want to twist and flip over when downward force is applied. Spiral wrapping is meant to alleviate that torsion on casting rods. That being said, it may be better for the life of the rod in the long term to have the eyelets on the bottom and not have that torsion happening, but on a standard casting rod I don't think it would matter enough to encourage anyone to flip their rig over every time they want to set a hook.
  12. dude, if he's gonna be tearing prototypes smooth up then I think he deserves his name on the package... if he was just tearing them up, then maybe not, but he's promising to tear them smooth up. Frankly, if he comes through on that promise, his name SHOULD be on the package.
  13. Well, it depends on which kind of rod and reel you are using. Spinning gear has the guides on the bottom while casting gear has guides on the top of the rod. In either case, set the hook from the normal position (guides down for spinning and guides up for casting) I don't see why you would flip your rod and reel over to set a hook in a way other than from the position the rod and reel already are.
  14. Berkley Lightningrod Shock: Taking rods built with a specific purpose in mind a step further are the new Berkley Lightningrod Shock series of rods built for use with superlines (i.e. lines with zero stretch). To accommodate the unique requirements of these zero-stretch lines, these new Shock rods feature a Strike Amplifying Tip (S.A.T.) a blend of graphite and fiberglass to produce a slower reacting tip resulting in fewer lost fish. In addition, the Aluminum Oxide guides are diamond polished to reduce friction and increase durability, and the frame on the tip top guide is rounded out towards the tip to reduce the occurrence of wind assisted loop knots at the tip of the rod issues often associated with fishing superlines. Each of the 10 rods (6 spinning, 4 casting) rods in this lineup also feature a suspending reel seat that lifts the reel off of the blank and keeps it from dampening the rod ensuring maximum sensitivity. Berkley's Lightning Rod Shock series of rods will retail from $49.99 to $54.99. -from tackletour's coverage at ICAST 2008
  15. I know what you mean. I've seen fish just swimming around from place to place in a seemingly random manner. It seems that if you stay in one spot, at some point those fish will come to the spot you are fishing. I don't think that is the case all the time, but I know there are times where it does seem to be a logical idea.
  16. my only experience with G-string (it was like 15# or somewhere around that) was terrible. The stuff was like a slinky
  17. wow that one on the left in the first pic looks like its a worm away from popping!
  18. does that picture remind anyone else of the movie "Tremors"?
  19. The only place I fish that has both LMB and Pike has a population of bass that are all over 1.5lbs. I have never caught any really small fish or dinks there. I have no idea if that is related to the pike, I'm just saying.
  20. we've had lots of threads about this before. It's some sort of pigmentation alteration.
  21. I think you mixed your links, RR http://www.ichibantackle.com/showproductdetail.asp?productid=2217&name=K%27S%20LABO%20/%20KIWAMI%20GILL%20[DISCONTINUED]%20[uSED]&manufacturename=VALLEY%20HILL%20(K%27S%20LABO%20/%20LAKEFORCE)
  22. If you like SRV, check out other texas blues roots like Blind Lemon Jefferson, T-Bone Walker, Lightnin' Hopkins, and Freddie King... Lightnin' Hopkins with Sonny Terry on harmonica is one of the absolute best harmonica-guitar duos in history. The stuff they did together is more like delta blues but it is still great. Also Sonny Terrry and Brownie McGhee, as McGhee is a much stronger singer than Lightnin' or Sonny but probably not as good on the guitar as Lightnin' IMO
