A Tribute To Tony Snow
That was a good article, thanks RW. It always amazed me how Tony seemed so strong, confident, and witty even though you could tell by his appearance that his health was failing. RIP

Smallmouth in the tidal Potomac
I also saw that same episode and was SHOCKED. From what I hear, it is a rarity, but they are there.

Anybody want to hit the MD side of Great Falls this weekend?
Mods, I know this is technically about a state in a different section, but please leave it here, I want to see if some of the NoVA anglers want to make this trip because I know many are getting into the Potomac smallmouth bite. Anywho, guys, I have a friend coming into town this weekend and I told him we could go to Great Falls to do some fishing/hiking. I've fished here before and I know there are lots of smallmouth and the canal and ponds nearby have some nice size largies as well. I talked to a guy today who recently caught a 5lb+ LMB in the canal and then went to the river and caught two 3lb+ smallies from the river. I've also caught a walleye from this area. If anyone is interested, let me know. It will probably be early Saturday or Sunday morning, depending on weather and who can go and when. A warning: fishing this area can be very physically exhausting, especially on hot days. We will be bank fishing because kayaking and boating is very difficult in this area. Walking the banks includes lots of hiking which in some points can be very strenuous as it includes climbing over huge boulders. It should be fun, though. The canal is easy to fish because the bank is just a flat path. The river banks are very rocky but very fishable. There is also a small pond that is pretty easy to get to that I know for sure has some good sized LMBs. Hopefully we might see someone catch a walleye like I did last summer (only to have it stolen from our stringer by a heron, funny story, ask me about it sometime) as well as some nice bass EDIT: I forgot to mention that you don't need a MD license to fish at Great Falls as long as you have a VA license.

Iran's Missles
Yeah, I was worried it was going too far, sorry, I'm finished.

Iran's Missles
Brian, the points you mention about SA being motivated by politics and economic interests is EXACTLY what I mean. It is a perfect example of how Muslim countries do not automatically side with each other against Western countries. their assistance of the Coalition in waging war against Muslim neighbors AND the fact that they allowed Coalition (nonbelievers) forces into the their own territory is a big deal. Many other countries were angry with them for siding with non-believers against Muslims and ESPECIALLY for allowing them to make use of the Muslim Holy Land (the Hijaz region in SA). And Bass-Brat, I do not think that "they just don't plain like each other". Most muslims don't hate Christians, and the ones that do are mostly manipulated by religious leaders who want to keep control over their followers and create an enemy to unify their supporters. You may think it may never end, and that is a sad opinion, but that is all it is.

Iran's Missles
Even though there is a lot of truth in that statement they seem to be pretty united against Christians. What about the Saudi's siding with the US for the Persian Gulf? Money and politics have split Muslims from each other many times. This is especially true with Iran which is a Shi'a majority, ethnically Persian, and not a monarchy. This differs from almost all other Muslims who are mostly Sunni, ethnically Arab, and monarchies. After the Iranian Revolution, most of the Arab monarchies (including Iraq at the time) have disliked Iran because they fear the anti-monarchy sentiment from the revolution will spread to their own countries and make the ruling powers lose their control. That is a major factor that lead to the Iran-Iraq war. And most Muslim countries are not united against Christians, per se, but against Christians in their territory, especially the hijaz (or Holy Land). All I'm saying is that it is important to remember that just like anyone else, money and politics factor into the positions of Muslim countries, and as such, they do not (and historically, have not) always side with each other.

Iran's Missles
on paper sure they can.... real world fighting wich they havent done without any help its up in the air .look at us with iraq .Iran is a whole lot diff then iraq it actullay has a strong gov and way more money and who knows who is gonna side with Iran they have a major pull in this area.they take care of many 3rd and 2 nd world countrys with millions of men willing to fight till death for there cause Isreal hasn't done "real word fighting"? What does that mean? What about 1967? Israel has stomped people on several occasions. And I wouldn't overestimate the connection between Iran and other Muslim countries. While they are "brothers in Islam," Iranians are different ethnically from most of the Muslim world as well as religiously because they are Persian and Shi'a. Muslims are not always as united as many think. 9-11 proves different ,4 men made this great country breakdown in 3 hrs .muslims live to die and been doing it for a long long long time .im not congradulating them either at all just we and other countrys need to think outside the box .they thrive on small attacks and weaken countrys from within economicly and know how to use our compassion, hope, glory, caring nature to there full advantage.they can care less if there uncle cousin brother or son dies as long as it was for THERE own cause.us and other countrys that thrive on living only feed countrys that thrive on death .As we have seen many times through history it only takes a few men to make a very big impact for very big countrys, states, posssesions, lands etc etc. think of trojan horse except in place of castles now its whole countrys and lands What four people? And why did you change the topic to terrorism? We are talking about Iran and Israel, two sovereign states. A war might make certain independent groups commit acts of terrorism, but Israel is probably the country with the most experience in dealing with terrorism and reacting to it. Don't underestimate their abilities, they have been suicide bombed and ganged up on since its creation in the 40s. The fact is, there are divisions between Muslims that you seem to be ignorant to. They don't all join together at every outside threat and there are numerous examples where they have fought each other or sided with the West because issues like nationalism, sectionalism, economics, and politics took precedent over being their common religion.

Yeah, I might pick up one of the Citicas when they come out.

Iran's Missles
true ..but isreal was having a problem fighting with hezbollah and hezbollah aint even a country in many ways, that makes it a more difficult battle. I haven't heard about these new tests, but I doubt Iran will have anything that can do much harm to the US for a while. And I agree, Israel won't hesitate to act and would probably do so before the US tries to. I think we should get something done about Iran sooner rather than later...

New to Smallmouth fishing
No problem, let me know if you want to do some wading on a weekend this summer before August 15th. I may have my trolling motor for my jon boat set up by then, though

Playing ripped DVD's
Correct. DVD Shrink can play those files on your computer, but the Zune needs a single .wmv or .mp4 file. To watch movies on my Zune, I put the DVD in the drive, use Cucusoft DVD to Zune Converter which basically rips the movie into a file that the Zune can play (.wmv or .mp4). Then once that file is finished, you add it to your Zune library, then sync it with your device. That takes a while because even though it is a .wmv, the Zune still converts it before it can be loaded onto the MP3 player. I don't know why it does this, but it does. http://www.cucusoft.com/

BURNING CD's.....I NEED HELP!
Burley is right, they aren't that hard to install. It will come with directions and if they don't help, I'm sure you can find additional ones on the internet.

fishing quantico
That's what I figured, but he might be interested in fishing the river from the base, also. No worries.

BURNING CD's.....I NEED HELP!
so it didn't work with the CDRs or CDRWs? Sounds like an issue with the drivers or the actual drive.

Playing ripped DVD's
If you just want to watch movies on your computer, you can watch them with DVD shrink. Just open the files from DVD shrink and press play, it should play the movie in the lower left part of the program screen, which you can then make fullscreen by double clicking I believe. As for putting it on the Zune, the best way I have found is to buy a conversion program that will convert DVDs into files that the Zune will play. PM me for info on that program. I haven't found a way to do this for free but I'm sure there is one if you look hard enough.

If you are fishing Lunga Reservior, you obviously don't need to worry about tides. Memo, this is the smallmouth bass part of the forum, make a post in the Southeast Section. There are some guys there that can help you.

Reply sent. I forgot to list the spot in Centreville but it isn't as good as some of the others I told you about in the PM. If you really want to know it, send me another PM or ask in a reply.

Good Bass Fishing Near Nags Head???
You want to PM Rob (flippin4it). He has some nice ponds down that he showed me down there with some good bass in them. Another option is Lake Mattamuskeet. It is on the mainland and a little far from Nags Head and I don't really know much about it other than it is very large and shallow and it has some canals loaded with fallen timber, and is EXTREMELY secluded. I would go with the places Rob can show you, though. Ponds would be easier to figure out and much closer than Mattamuskeet.

BURNING CD's.....I NEED HELP!
what burley said. Also, you may want to try different disks. I've had certain disks that would not burn even though they were brand new. Like Burley said, make sure they are CD-R. If that doesn't work, it could be your burner drive.

Nova guys free Monday (July 14)
Sorry I couldn't go. If you had said Friday, I could have made it. I would try the Rapidan, though. It's a longer wade, but the fish are definitely bigger.

Congratulations Sam
Way to go, Sam! I completely agree with the selection, you are always willing to offer helpful advice whenever you can.

Don't understand this feeling... losing a double digit... :(
That SUCKS Jason! I would have loved to see a picture of that. I hope you can catch her later on. At least you know she's there, now you just need to fool her again. PS, If the offer still stands, I'd really like to get out on the boat with you and Ron sometime this summer. ;D

OBX Bassin
I think I had two on the swimbait, one or two on the fluke, and three or four on a 6" black senko? Rob, I had a great time, thanks for showing me some ponds down here that have some real fish in them. I would have gone crazy if I had to fish the ponds up where I am all week. Too bad you couldn't get that biggun hooked again, I would have loved to see that. I also got some good practice with the hollow bodied swimbaits and now have a lot of confidence in them. You might have already left, but have a safe trip back and leave some good stuff at BPS for me!

Paddletail Swimmbait Frustration
I was in the same boat as you until last week. I started fishing them more like crankbaits, banging them into anything and everything I could. That started to produce more strikes and followers.
