x2 on the very subtle twitches. It also helps if you do not allow too much of your braid to lay across the surface tension on the water.

Try a longer rod or one with an XF action. I don't know if its just my imagination but I always prefer a longer, stiffer rod for plastics, especially when I'm going to be setting the hook at a distance. They get more pressure to the hook point more quickly than shorter rods that have more give.

Just watch out for the ticks! They are terrible out there! From what I hear the fish are moving deep now, your best bet will probably be fishing offshore structure.

They might not really be what you're looking for but Optimum makes a few soft plastics that incorporate rabbit fur.

It's not just the lower end rods. I sold my LTB spinning rod because of the same problem. I wish I hadn't it was a great rod, I just got tired of tightening the seat.

At this time of year I would spend most of my time offshore on the drops and brush piles.

I believe you can get a different model in the same series but a quick phone call to St Croix would verify that.
