To clarify, Burley appears to be talking about Heinz 57 which is a ketchup-y cooking sauce sold by Heinz. It is different than regular Heinz ketchup (or at least it is marketed that way)
  2. Yeah, I've been seeing lots of articles that say most people are fed up with them.
  3. http://waterdata.usgs.gov/wv/nwis/current/?type=flow Check under the "kanawha river basin" for a location near where you will be staying (Hinton, Thurmond, or Hawks Nest Dam)
  4. Couldn't find my map but I would think if you aren't catching them on the points you need to fish out deeper. Remember, the points continue underwater out into the lake (some of them go a fairly long way out into the lake)
  5. I dunno if braid casts farther than mono of an equal diameter but you can definitely cast it farther than mono of equivalent breaking strength. Thinner diameter=longer casts However, when I first learned how to use a baitcaster I had light braid on my reel and I couldn't cast very far at all. I upgraded to 65lb braid and it solved my problem. I have no idea what was going on. Maybe the line was slipping or had been digging into itself or maybe the bait I was using was too light. All I know is that my baitcaster seemed to handle a larger diameter braid more easily.
  6. the buzzing noise was those stupid horns that the fans use. The only thing I hate more about soccer than those horns is how the players act hurt all the time.
  7. i wish they would make a premium rod. There are a thousand rods at the <~$150 price point
  8. Right now with the warm water I would assume the fish are deep. There are lots of deepwater brushpiles at Burke. I will see if I can find my map of them and help you find a few. I would think they would be a good choice right now.
  9. or even....an entire forum of their own!

    READ THE STICKY HERE
  11. Yeah, you don't have to worry about line guides causing friction on the line...Just adjust your drag and you'll be fine. I use the palomar for everything. The length of the tag end can be controlled by the tier

c312 then Dominion Dan and now Dan followed by a punctuation mark that varies at will.
  13. sounds like a great trip BL. You seem determined to learn that place.
  14. nice smallie! be careful near Arlington. I know there is a path along the river there but the banks above there are super steep and I am not sure how to get down to the path. I saw a lot of people walking/running/fishing along the path but I don't know where they came from. Again, remember to have a DC license, I know they used to bust people on the VA side near Chain Bridge, it wouldn't be a stretch for them to check people down river. That section gets REALLY deep (Spout Run to Chain Bridge) so I'm interested to hear about your catches. I would start at Spout Run. I believe the spot where it drains into the river is usually stacked with baitfish.
  15. That wouldn't be as productive in most places that I fish a frog.
  16. No, no, Burley. You're thinking of Wytheville. That's where the Virginia/Virtucky border is. ;D
  17. But how can the blade spin if it's sitting on top of slop? Let me know how that swivel handles any accumulated gunk. I fish spinnerbaits in moderate grass and the swivels that attach the blades get clogged up and stop spinning, I just can't imagine how they would handle the thick stuff.
  18. Great report--you really are a talented writer, Jay. The pics are fantastic as well, I think my favorite is actually the one of the tree.
  19. I don't understand the point of a blade on a swivel underneath the bait. Frogs and rats like that are supposed to be fished over crap. Doesn't the crap jam up the swivel and render the blade useless? At the very least it must make it more difficult for the bait to come across the top of the mat...Or are those types of baits just not meant for mats?

So the tick went ahead with the deed without even negotiating a price?
  21. No, Shimano reels will not go on Daiwa rods (and vice versa)...it's sort of like trying to put the same poles of two magnets together; it just doesn't work.
  22. lol, Pudge?
  23. That doesn't matter that much. To average 2 strikeouts an inning against ANY team in his VERY FIRST game is remarkable.
