Braid Recommendations
That's a lie, you had 80 lb. Spiderwire braid on all of your Zebco 202's when we fished together last summer. that was spearmint flavored dental floss. It's almost identical to FireLine but way cheaper.

I don't know what he's talking about. I've never used braid before...

Revenge Flipping Jigs. Too bad they are prohibitively expensive...

Changing rods need opinions
If so, I'd pay $75 in a heart beat abso-freaking-lutely. It looks like basically the same stick. They changed the weight rating and there is one less guide. I'd say go for it. I have the older version and it is awesome. Plenty of power for jigs, and it's got a great action for frogs as well. IMO it makes the perfect frog rod.

Do you mean the telescopic 7'8" All Day Flipping and Pitching Stick?

Fountainhead bass Tourney 5.2.2010
From a friend who has been fishing it for a long time: "Depends on number of boats. We keep a little for the classic at the end of the year. 40 boat tx usually close to 600 bucks for first 440 second 260 third 200 big fish"

River Monsters: Snakehead
this was a new episode. I think there are a couple SH shows that run on a few different networks.

$45 per boat plus $5 big fish. I'm not sure about the payout. I'll get back to you.

Upper Potomac River - Algonkian Park launch
A lot of the people who rent boats there are actually fishing for shad and striper at this time of year. The problem with those boats is that you either have to bring your own trolling motor or row. That can be difficult depending on the tide and flow of the river if you want to fish up or down river. Most of the fillet sized perch were being caught a little ways down river.

That's fine. You are well within your rights to keep fish but I have to warn you that you might not get many tips from other members who value the quality of their fisheries. As for the white perch, there are plenty being caught in the Potomac between Chain Bridge and Key Bridge right now. Me and a few buddies caught a couple hundred the other day. Trouble with that area is you either need to do some hiking or rent a boat from Fletcher's boat house to get to them.

Lunker City Salad Spoon
Looks like the "Eeliminator." I've never used either but both look like great options for matted grass.

I would love to be able to catch a mess of bluegill or crappie for a fish fry. I haven't targeted panfish since I was a kid, though. I figured now that I'm an "adult" with a decked out kayak and medium-heavy action rods that I'll dedicate myself to hunt the best gamefish in freshwater, the LMB. : Maybe I'll bring along a lightweight outfit the next time I go out to see if I can't find a submerged brush pile somewhere with a big school of crappie swimming around it. That would be fun. Why not catch and release bass and take an UL for panfish since they taste better?

Andrew, remember those giant pumpkinseeds I caught on a Mann's -1 last Independence Day? Monsters!

Look what I found
What exactly would be involved in the process that crosses an alligator with a fish?

River Monsters: Snakehead
The snakehead episode is on Animal Planet right now. I hope it isn't sensationalized like the National Geographic program about the snakehead.

Love fest at Beaverdam
Saw them doing the same thing on the Occoquan Reservoir today. I recall seeing them do that a LOT at BDC a couple summers ago.

Thanks for the info, Brian. Now the dilemma...is the fishing so good that it's worth the effort even though you can't take a bag of fish home for your efforts?? :-/ What about just fishing for the sport of it? And no, it's not that good. Besides, it would be much healthier if you just bought your fish at the store instead of catching it out of the Potomac. I had the same conversation with my buddy who I kayak fish with. He said fishing should be done purely for the sportsman aspects of it. I told him he's full of crap as he still hasn't gotten the skunk off his yak, yet. I said fishing is what takes us back to our primal beginnings...we slay our catch and gain sustenance from it. I know about the PCB pollutants in the Potomac...I was hoping that the cleaner waters farther upstream would have healthier fish in it. It's certainly your right but the vast majority of the members of this site would be considered "full of crap" The Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers both have consumption advisories. Unfortunately, a very large portion of the rivers in the state have advisories, it doesn't have much to do with being upstream from DC. If you feel compelled to keep fish, only keep the small ones.

Guess the Weight?
yeah, I'd agree with that. Were they taken with a fish eye lens?

Geez I hate spinning tackle
I had a Supreme 8035. It lasted two trips. The reels I'm using are a Stradic 2500FH and a 2500FI. Bail is always closed by hand. I filled a spare spool with 20/6 PowerPro earlier this week, going to give it a try over the next few weeks. powerpro will work but i would have picked fireline braid or diawa samurai. really? are you sure? ;D

A few nice ones this week
the shimmster is still crushing it! very nice Troy. yeah, it seems dumb but all vehicles with powered thrust have to be registered. Are you going to be able to put a registration number on that raft? That might prove difficult!

Its like fishing the dead sea
The two sides are separated by dikes. The one side is basically walled off from the other.
