  1. I don't understand why bass tell their friends and relatives to stay away from my lure, but it is ok to smash my friends all day.
  2. I travelled to the states to visit family, and the Bait Monkey was waiting for me at the border.
  3. I agree five fish in one day would not be proof. I'm not talking about a few fish. I have personally seen it happen many days in a row, for hundreds of fish. Some lures were manufactured to be identical, and look identical to fisherman, but the fish don't see them as being the same.
  4. The best example of identical lures not performing the same is easily proven while trolling. I can troll two identical crankbaits, at the same time, at the same speed, even switch what side the side of the boat, each is trolled on, and one will out perform the other by a wide margin. Why, only the fish can tell. I know king salmon guides that will even give a name (Big All, Hog Hunter, Crazy Sally etc.) to individual lures that for some reason out perform all others.
  5. Bass I don't know. Some other species of fish, definite yes.
  6. I do the same here in Mexico except I look for the commercial tilapia nets. The commercial fisherman know where the tilapia live, the bass eat tilapia, so I look for nets and catch bass. Only problem is the Bait Monkey loves Tilapia nets.
  7. Yes with crankbaits. Especially crankbaits made of wood, or Wiggle Warts.
  8. A friend is looking at a Garmin Unit that comes without the transducer, and is trying to decide which transducer to buy. The GT 56 is almost double the cost of a GT 54. Does anyone know the difference between the GT 54 and the GT 56 transducers? Has anyone used both? Any opinion if the 56 is worth the extra money? Thanks in advance.
  9. Anything I have to fish slowly. I'm trying to learn to slow down, but I'm having a difficult time with it. Is there a fish to fast support group I can join?
  10. Mine was an Orvis fly rod. Made one cast, and I never bought a fiberglass rod again.
  11. I am not an engineer, so do not claim to have as much knowledge on the subject as others that have posted on this thread. I can say from experience that stainless steel screws are ok to use on aluminum. Any other steel will cause dissimilar metal corrosion. I rebuilt the wings on my Piper cub one winter after severe wind damage. Most of the screws in the aluminum spars were stainless steel. Some were regular steel, having been replaced by a previous owner one who was either cheap or ignorant probably both. The ones that were not stainless showed signs of corrosion to the point that a couple ribs were not even attached. Just held in place by fabric. This should have been noticed by a mechanic during annual inspection but was missed until I tore the wings completely apart. The proper screws installed from the factory for connecting aluminum ribs to the aluminum spar were stainless steel. The legal recommended screws bought to replace the old ones were also stainless steel. Again I am not an engineer, but I do remember how expensive those approved stainless steel screws were. and the reason they were worth the money.
  12. When I was young I had very little money, but lots of time to fish. I was forced to learn to adapt and use what I had to catch fish. I would cast a 1 OZ oz. bait on a rod made to cast 1/2 oz. lure or put a 1/2 oz. weight on the line ahead of floating Rapala to get it deeper, because I lost my only Deep WeeR and the bass would not come up to hit my Floating Rapala, which was my only other plug. I fished every day, learning the water, and the habits of the bass like only someone who fishes all the time can. I always managed to find a way to catch fish with what little I had. Now I have a rod, reel, line, and lure for almost any situation possible. The bait Monkey does his best to ruin my marriage and I have way more gear than I need. Problem is I have very little time to fish. I sit at home thinking of situations where I might need a certain outfit, and then buy it. I watch videos and see people catch fish on a lure or technique I haven't tried and imagine it must be exactly what I need for a certain lake at a certain time of year. One more tackle order and I will have exactly what I need. If I loose a lure that is working, I buy three more just like it rather than count on something similar to work. No longer do I have to adapt and get by. I want to be prepared with the perfect set up for every situation. I have come to realize that I am more of a collector than a fisherman. I am OK with that. Collecting fishing gear is as good a hobby as any. Every once in awhile I catch a big fish, on a new lure I was sure I couldn't possibly live with out. I instantly convince myself that exact make, model, and color of lure was the only lure that could have possibly caught that fish. Making all the time and money spent acquiring my treasure worth every minute and every penny.
  13. I do not have any experience with the H2O Bluegill, but have used most of the H20 crankbaits. I have had success with their medium diving Model M, and Crank D. The H20 Square bill works as well as any plastic square bill I have tried at half the cost.
  14. 2- Tatula ct. 1- Diawa Coastal 200 1-Diawa Coastal SV 1- Pfluerger President
  15. I did the exact same with the same results. I had some luck with the crappie, but not nearly as well as I was already having with the Bagley DB2. in chart. black back, and the yellow and brown color. The bluegill was a huge disappointment. I still have a crappie I bought when they first came out.
  16. I was just trying to make joke. I admit that sometimes my humor is in bad taste. I apologize if I offended you or any one on this forum.
  17. Only way I would spend $25 on a shirt is if it came with a free fishing lure. Why did you have to go buy clothes? Doesn't she know how to sew? If not, why can't she learn?
  18. Diawa Ardito travel rods.-- I use them even when I don't travel. Diawa BG spinning reel.-- Shimano fan for 40 years, but this reel compelled me to fish a Diawa product for the first time since1976. Acadamy Sports H2O series crankbaits. -- Prefer their square bills over others twice the cost. 6th Sense crankbaits Like them all, especially the mine mag square bill. Reaction Innovations Skinny Dipper-- I use them for jig tailers, Texas rig, A rig, weighted hook, underspin, flipping tees, and punching mats. Rapala DT. 6 and DT 10-- Fragile, but catch fish when others wont. Spro Rock Crawler-- Expensive but worth the cost. Rebel Jumping Minnow. My favorite walk the dog bait, at any price.
  19. I like to take advantage of a hot bite to experiment, learn new techniques, or improve my skill at a techniques that I am not skilled at. Hopefully building confidence so, I can some day add them to the list of favorites. When the bite is slow, I will stick with a few confidence baits. Choosing a lure that will fish the depth, and cover I feel the fish are at, as well as the speed, size and color I think they want.
  20. Helicopter lure Dancing eel Banjo Minnow
  21. Put a thick pair of gloves on, and wrap the line around gloved hands, pull with a quick jerk. Be careful not to pull lure back at you, or fall out of boat. It always amazes me how hard it is to break a snagged line, but how easy it is to snap off a fish.
  22. I landed this10.3 pound bass at Tepic yesterday. Caught this one, along with a 6.3 and 6.7 bouncing a 6th. Sense Mini Mag square bill through this submerged tree in 28 feet of water. I was close enough to shore, I could peddle to the bank while holding the bass in the water, and take a quick picture. I am having difficulty taking pictures of bass while by myself in a kayak. Would appreciate any advice from kayak anglers on taking pictures with as little harm as possible to the fish.
  23. The weather at my favorite lake has been exactly the same for the past 3 months. Low of 60 degrees, high of 84 no clouds, light east winds in the morning, no wind for an hour at noon, and strong winds from the west in the afternoon. Same exact thing every day, and I can still manage to pick the wrong day to go fishing.
  24. I'm sure I would catch more fish, if I only owned a hand full of lures, but fished those lures skillfully and often. Bass fishing isn't only about how many fish a person catches. Trying a new lure and catching a big fish with it is one of the biggest thrills of bass fishing, at least that is what the Bait Monkey tells me and I tell wife. After all there is so many lures, and so little time.
  25. AJ, you may want to book another trip to Baccarac in mid June. The drought is causing many waters in Mexico to be at their all time low, and there is still 3 months before the rainy season even starts. May not be good for the fish in the long run, but could make for some crazy good fishing, when the levels hit the low before the rainy season. Just imagine all those giant bass swimming around in a lake that is 1/4 its normal size, not to many places for the bass to hide, and the bait will be concentrated too. Good chance it will be the best fishing the lake will ever have. A lake I fish is already as low now as it was last year in mid July. Rain normally starts in August. It is a small lake and may get dangerously low. Hope their is no die off. Last year the best fishing was when it was at it's lowest, so I am hoping this year will be even better. Good thing is it only takes one normal rainy season to fill back up, so Baccarac will probably back to normal when you get there.
