  1. This guy fishes the harbor where I am a few days a week. He makes his living commercial fishing in this boat. He usually throws a cast net, but sometimes has a rod and reel too. Some days there are two people in the boat but most of the time he is by himself. He stands up an paddles with a Paddle board paddle. The boat is simply an old jet ski that has been gutted. I see them around quite often. I even saw two guys bass fishing in one at my favorite lake. Just goes to show with a little imagination, there is always a way to get to the fish.
  2. I find myself going over to the dark side more and more. While lost in the twilight zone I have been known to do very strange things. No trailers on spinnerbaits chaterbaits, and jigs. At the same time I'm committing these terrible crimes, I eat bananas , and fish a shimano reel on a Diawa rod. I usually come around when the fishing gets slow and the Bait Monkey goes crazy( Bait Monkey believes in using expensive trailers, and trailer hooks on everything including live bait), forcing me to conform to the norms of bass fishing. However, the dark side has great pull, and I did catch a big bass with a jig, no trailer, while eating a banana fishing a Diawa rod, with a shimano reel. Could have just been luck maybe the moon phase, but strange things have a way of becoming less strange the more they happen. Lately I find myself walking that thin line between being a Rebel, and a criminal more and more.
  3. Your 73 CV does have crosshairs. Go to sonar screen, press select, then scroll back. When you hit the arrow to scroll back, crosshairs will appear. Place crosshairs on object then press select. It will then give you options to name waypoint, and what symbol you want to use such as tree dot square, etc. The object will be placed on your map, where the transducer you were using was when you went over it.
  4. Hobie Outback works great for me in the Saltwater. Very stable, but light enough to launch in surf. Is also a great kayak for bass fishing.
  5. Double Uni is easy to learn easy to tie,Strong but is a fairly large knot does not work well with large diameter leaders FG knot is difficult to learn difficult to tie but is very strong and extremely small. I prefer the Alberto. It can be difficult to learn to tie properly but once learned is quick easy small and strong.
  6. Yards and gardens are for people that don’t fish.
  7. I’m such a gearhead that if I ever did go the soda bottle rod real route. I would have to have five different sizes of soda bottles giving me five different gear ratios and six or seven different brands of toothbrushes for Lures
  8. It is not the gear it’s the fisherman. I know a kid that can out fish me any day on his Lake and all he has is an old soda bottle for a rod and reel with a homemade lure carved out of a toothbrush.
  9. Most of the time I prefer close loop. Open loop does seem to run straighter at high speeds. For burner spinner baits I prefer the loop to be open.
  10. You don't have dementia, until you forget to buy more tackle. Not remembering where you stored tackle is simply having a senior moment. Not remembering to buy tackle is serious.
  11. I use two fingers in front, and two behind. I always cast all rods except fly rods( unless I have a two handed fly rod) with two hands. Over hand side arm, it doesn't matter. It doesn't seem fair, that one hand has to work, while the other gets time off. I use two hands to swing a baseball bat, or golf club, so why not cast with two hands? Just seems natural to me.
  12. Your wife ordered you a Steez now that is what I call true love.
  13. 2 Diawa tatula ct. 1 Diawa Coastal TWS 1 Diawa Coastal 200 HS 1 Pflueger President. Spinning.
  14. It would be as difficult for me to have only one spinnerbait, as it would to be limited to one wrench in my tool box, but if I could only have one, it would be a 1/2 oz black short arm single Colorado blade.
  15. For thirty years, I lived and fished in the wilderness of Alaska. I had more close calls than I can count. Most of the exciting moments, were encounters with Brown Bears. Many false chargerges that ended up amounting to nothing. I did have to shoot two bears both of them at night. One when I was walking back to my cabin along a river full of salmon at night, and another one that stole my salmon eggs I used for bait, and when I yelled at him to go away, he charged me at the entrance of my tent. Both were less than 5 yards away when I decided to shoot, and both died right away. The scariest moment wasn't the fault of a bear. I was walking home from fishing a river an hour walk from my cabin, and while going through some thick brush I stumbled on a Bull Moose. The rut was in full swing, and he wasn't in a good mood. He came at me, and I shot a round in air thinking he would run off. Before I could get another round in my gun he ran right over the top of me. My rifle ended up ten 5 yards from where he he hit me, and I was bruised, with one broken finger, but by some miracle that was the extent of my injuries. My fly rod wasn't even broke. It was a hard hours walk back to the cabin, and the cabin was 60 miles from the nearest town or road. I didn't have any phone, or radio that would reach anyone, and I wasn't due to be picked up for another month. Even a minor injury could have become serius. The pilot that came and picked me up, asked if I had any trouble with bears, and I told him bears are nothing you have to watch out for moose. He got a big laugh at that. After that experience I decided I would need to learn to fly and get a plane if I truly wanted to be self sufficient in the Alaska Bush. Ofcourse flying added to the scary moment list, while providing many more great fishing days.
  16. This not may pass the I GFA test but failed miserably in my test. Alberto far superior, FG even stronger yet, and hollow core splice only 100% connection. The knot showed is usually done with the Bimini twist in the braid figure Eight in the mono still inferior to FG. While my test are not made with scientific equipment. They do include shock testing the knot as well as a steady pull.
  17. Make sure the roller bearing on the bail is working properly. If it is sticking it is almost impossible to get a drag to work properly.
  18. Wind is good for the fish. For multiple reasons almost all sport fish prefer to feed on windy days. The problem is wind causes many problems for the angler most of the time. You have to find the sweet spot where The wind makes the fish start biting But doesn’t blow so hard It ruins your ability to fish.
  19. As long as I promise to never again have her run down the street holding a Lure while I check my drag she’s OK with my fishing
  20. I could easily live without my cell phone. But I’m not going to give up my fishfinder
  21. You obviously haven't seen me trying to get my best crankbait off a snag in 20 kts. winds, when the giants are biting.
  22. I put braid on two ways. If it is a reel with large line capacity, I spool the braid on one reel pinching the line with my fingers. Then put that rod in a holder, tie the line on to the reel I want to fill and use the drag on the first reel to put the line on tight to the reel I want spooled. The other option I use for reels without large capacities is I over fill the reel with braid, and either let all the line out behind a boat with a heavy weight or hard pulling crankbait and reel the line back on tight, or simply walk all of the line off, tie the line to a tree, and reel the line on tight while slowly walking to the tree. Most of the time with small level wind reels, you don't have to put the line on super tight, but it doesn't hurt. Big game reels the line should be put on at no less than 6 pounds of drag.
  23. I'm sure I would remember my phone number if I ever caught a bass on one.
  24. This must be why I continue to try and catch bass in tree limbs that are 10 feet out of the water.
