  1. Be prepared and know all rules! I've actually started doing a checklist the day before tourneys because of how many times I've left stuff at home. Keep an eye on the clock, time flies in tourneys. I'll leave the actual fishing advice to others. Good luck and have fun
  2. Depends on the water temp and the fish. But I'm not afraid to run the wells all day and I keep a couple frozen water bottles during the summer and toss one in every now and then
  3. I believe that is the case if that happened they would look at the time of the catch (fish in boat) vs when it was scored. Seems like it was mentioned on an episode awhile back but don't quote me on that
  4. Haven't watched the whole episode yet but I did see Shaw Grigsby have a tail touch the floor and he mentioned to the official he did it and his response was it was "incidental". Maybe they are trying to cut down on penalties other than actually dropping fish on the carpet and them flopping around?
  5. Great recap. Thanks for sharing, congrats on sticking with it
  6. holy crap
  7. Well the anglers are just regular people some good some bad but most fisherman are pretty good in my experiance Before I started tourney fishing I would make sure everything on my boat worked and was legal. Live wells,Nav lights, and all safety gear. Most tourneys require this and even if they didn't I would suggest this. Prefishing is exactly what it sounds like. You fish before the tournament to try and get an idea what the fish are doing and where they are located so on game day you aren't searching hopefully You could also try to find a club that allows non boaters so you can join and get a feel for everything while riding with someone else. Also a good way to meet everyone
  8. cant help you find them in your area, But what specifically are you curious about? if you give a more detailed question I will be glad to answer the best I can.
  9. Pay attention fellas he said "your on the water about to make your first cast" all that planning and crap was done before this moment. Normally for me since I try to always fish at daylight its along the lines of "I hope they"ll eat this buzzbait this morning" Or "What piece of cover or structure am I trying to hit" And sometimes "Scale face needs to get out my hole" lol
  10. My vote goes to the pro qualifier. Quality reel
  11. Agreed foot control
  12. Ouch that sucks. You could always sink it at your honey hole All serious the last boat I "disposed of properly" took a weekend with a saw law and a lot of sweat
  13. Your right at that angle its got a spotted bass mouth. Good catch
  14. Most of your aquaintances only talk to you about fishong
  15. Just proves bass don't only eat when they're hungry. Aint no way that fish was hungry
  16. I agree with the dredgers. Along with SK red eye shads, and the spro rock crawler has become my go to around wood in 7-9ft. Even better than a square bill.
  17. Kind of surprised at the responses. I'm not one who believes in spending loads of money on rods so all of my rods are under $100. I have 2 of berkleys shock rods and use them for treble hook lures. They were designed with a slower/softer action for no stretch lines like braid. IMO they do not have the action nor the hook setting backbone I want in a frog rod. If your looking for a cheap alternative get a heavy Berkeley cherry wood or look at academy's H20 brand of rods
  18. I believe because that technique gets a lot of bites. Especially small bites so after catching a couple dozen you will have a good idea of how to detect them
  19. I prefer a loud or water displacing bait in muddy conditions.(rattles/large Colorado blade) for example. But retrieve speed will always be dictated by water temp and bass activity levels more so than clarity.
  20. Not at all! Most af the field struggled but it was in the fall so that's expected. Either way I wouldn't of cared I just wish I knew they were there
  21. This, baby powder does the trick when storing
  22. Not required but its not a bad idea to add some rubber washers for shock and to keep the mount from scratching or imprinting on the deck
  23. Sure wish I had more time on the water, with work and a new baby its getting less and less. About 3 Saturdays a month to be exact. Now I do spend 10hrs per trip but I sure do miss my "pets" in between How often and for what length of time do you fish on average?
  24. As some have said most of my jig fishing(which is alot) I feel I am imitating baitfish more than anything else. I will at times use markers to match orange claw tips to match the crayfish at certain times of the year but i think they are keying in on the color more than how its worked
  25. I get your point behind this but MLF came to my home lake November before last and no one knew. Actually I'm pretty sure I was fishing during some of the shoots because I saw a helicopter filming a bass boat running around the lake. I believe they do this for a reason fishing during the week not announcing anything that way the lakes are not crowded with spectators nor at the ramps. So they came and left without much impact at all other than what they spent on lodging and food.
