  1. Anything that imitates a shad I will be throwing my A-rig alot in october
  2. No its more of just a twisted piece of wire but yes the hooks can be changed
  3. these are also the only swim jigs I use but prefer a rage menace for the trailer. most of my jigs are thrown on braid 30lb test
  4. I pretty much only cast one handed and normally its sideways. Only use two hand overhead when trying to make a long cast
  5. Mor than one of you listed the whopper plopper, is it that good that its already been made a go to? Idk if I could go anywhere to fish that I didn't know anything about. It would kill me not to talk to someone or at least look it up. I will always have a jig tied on no matter the conditions or place. Then I would have a t-rig worm, crankbait and some form of top water. This way I can work all the different depths of the water column
  6. I know this is a popular rig and I want to understand how it is used by different people. I understand how to tie it and the tackle but what situations do you throw it. Deep, shallow, cast it out or fish it under boat. Just list any situation that you have success and decide to throw this rig and how you work it back to boat.
  7. maybe im cheap but all I drink is natty light.
  8. Mono. Mainly trilene big game
  9. with a jig or other lures that require a good hard hookset I try to use both hands and also the forearm of the hand I hold the rod with. hard to explain but you bend your wrist so the rod base is semi under your forearm and it takes some of the force off the wrist.
  10. Your question is very broad and I first suggest you start reading the articles on this site for more info than anyone can put in a post. When going from ponds to lakes a lot of factors start to come into play in order to find the fish including time of year, water temp, most dominate prey, current, depth, vegetation and structure to name a few. Reading on here will get you a good starting place and then it all comes down to time on the water. Good luck and welcome to BR!
  11. Nice fish. Frogs always seem to catch the big ones. Looks like they were choking it
  12. Well posting something on craigslist for a good deal with give them a ton of texts and phone calls. One of the best pranks me and my friends ever pulled at hunting camp was when we killed a snake and coiled it up on a buddies driver seat. We then tied a rope around the snakes neck and the other end to the door handle. When he opened the door it was like the snake was striking at him. Was hilarious but don't try this on someone with a weak ticker, might give em a heart attack.
  13. That is the kind of answer I was looking for. I wonder if there is a magic water temp of when they start to migrate to the feeder creeks. The fall seems like the easiest time to find them but I know there has to be a way to find them in the summer. If striper guides couldnt catch live shad in the summer they would probably go out of business.
  14. Care to explain this a little more? Don't threadfin shad mostly eat zooplankton?
  15. I also have an old bomber 5a that does so crazy stuff. It will sometimes run circles like you described or run straight right and does something different it seems at the start of every retrieve. I keep it cuz when it first started I caught a bass while it was doing its thing. Other than teeth marks idk what causes it either.
  16. Duct tape won't stop any bleeding though. Must be some kind of cloth or gauss under tape.
  17. I need some help. I'm on a quest trying to locate shad on a consistent basis. For you seasoned guys is this something you can do on a regular basis? If so I would love to learn since if you find the bait you find the fish. Been doing a lot of reading about baitfish movements and habits and it seems they move around quite a bit even throughout the day. On the electronics board in the screenshot sticky there are some good pics of shad or bait balls that I don't see too often. I just recently gotten a decent depthfinder but instead of just idling around for hours I figure some of y'all could give me some tips to save some time and make the most of my weekend fishing. Thanks in advance
  18. All the time and as my story goes biggest I've caught is a 6 pounder. I know a few other older skilled anglers that have fished the hooch there whole lives and they havent caught anything much bigger in the past 5 years. There have been some close to 10 caught around the dam but nothing in awhile. My only explanation Is bad management and overcrowding bass population
  19. Sorry man we aren't trying to hijack but they are the same points. Basically 2 lures fished together to give a small school effect. I have never done what you are asking. seems it would work well especially if there are more than one bass in that spot since it only takes one bass starting to feed to get the other ones fired up as well.
  20. @Yeajray231 I like your idea for rigging those flukes but I also wanted to tell you the donkey rig does not use a 3 way swivel. Its a standard swivel that slides up and down the main line. Still gets tangled some but thought I'd share.
  21. Still perfecting this but when I find a spot to fish I will drop the buoy within casting distance right next to boat. I then pick something on land to line myself up with. This helps me make semi accurate cast while not dropping buoy on top of the cover or fish.
  22. Where and what time of year did you catch your PB? When I say where be as specific as you want but I really want to here the depth, structure or cover you were fishing. And add the lure if you want. My pb isn't a trophy but it was caught in the Chattahoochee river in early fall on a rocky wall just before a big S-curve with a fallen tree right on the bank. I actually saw the bass take the lure and set the hook to soon but luckily the bass hit it again. Caught it on a 8inch ribbontail worm on a beetle spin arm(just an idea I had)
  23. Made by a guy on table rock lake. His site is called jigs4bass.com. I stumbled on it one day and really like his stuff. You can choose to have a bladed jig with or without a weed guard which is pretty cool for fishing in heavy wood
  24. My bladed jig colors don't change too much throughout the year. I use a green pumpkin and a white and grey. Just happened to have a PIC of one on here. its hard to tell but the blade matches the skirt
  25. I have no real evidence for what is better but I always like the sun in the morning and shade the rest of the day. When it comes to weeds though sun might not be the as big a factor as say wind. I will be watching for others opinions on this.
