  1. Highly recommend Real Prey swimbaits, he makes an exact bait for golden shiners. 7 inch made of silicone so they don’t rip. They can withstand multiple fish. Super realistic. I love his baits
  2. So I love jig fishin. Pitching, crawling footballs down deep, or just about any jig on bottom. But I never fished swim jigs. I recently found some swim jigs for cheap money, they were close out Workinman swim jig by Beast Coast jigs. I’m really excited to use them. I have a lot of grass in my area. From really heavy grass to just below or matted, to submerge stuff on the bottom from 3-20 feet of water. Also have plenty of logs, stumps, pads and lay downs. Very clear water and stained water. We have a variety of ponds in my area! What trailers do you like to use? Any other advice or info would be appreciated
  3. Did some shore fishing after work today. Bite was good, had a few whacks on my DS glide, few whacks on hudds, and Tu bes I got 2 bass on the glide, 1 on a hudd, few pickerel to. Stayed after dark, 5 whacks on a shell cracker just creepin on top!! Had one spit hook on the shore before I could grab it! I frigging love this glide bait
  4. I rarely turn on my head lamp. Sometimes I go with out it! I can see pretty good at night. I don’t have gators, bears, wild cats, or snakes to worry about! I do turn it on for walking or tying knots. But it stays off most of the time. i also use a bait caster for jigs and big swimbaits after dark. Never had a problem with casting them!
  5. I live on the coast, my back yard is the ocean. We have a few bait shops locally. I live next to one. That’s where I buy my leaders, line, hooks, not much for freshwater. They have a few. One shop 20 min away does stock a bunch of bass gear from high end swimbaits to regular bass tackle, local bait makers. Awesome shop!
  6. Problem with Dicks, Basspro and Walmart at least in my area. It’s all the same crap. Generic brands, no variety! If they got a brand they don’t carry a variety of styles. At my local Dicks Gary Yamamotos all senkos, that’s it. Bass pro is definitely a lot better then. Walmart and Dicks: can’t even buy replacement hooks at Dicks and Walmart. I try and support the local bait shops
  7. I live in Massachusetts. I’ve caught wake bait fish all winter! Last March I got a 7lbs 5 ounce and 5 even same spot on a floating glide bait in 2 feet of water! Get out there! They will move shallow in the cold unless it’s already shallow haha. I’d try moving baits in wind blown structure. Grind big swimbaits, pitch jigs to cover in the shallow ponds. Or fish ledges in the deeper ponds. The shallow ponds will warm quick. I was fishing Saturday in a deeper pond. We saw several topwater feeds. Surprising for January in Ma in 40 degree water.
  8. After a few very slow bass less trips it felt good getting on em. My last 2 good trips were from the same pond!
  9. Hit old faithful. I love this place for winter bassin. They bite, fat and feisty. Picked off a couple. Got 6 bass, biggest 3lbs 12oz. They loved the tubes, my hair jig and a jerkbaits. We got a bunch of pickerel and some big yellows. Biggest yellow was 1lbs 6 oz Surprisingly there was a ton of surface activity. We saw so many blow ups! We made some chicken soup in the boat as well. That’s a first! STILL HUNTING MY WINTER GIANT
  10. Orange is a great color for me. Idk why. But it’s caught me some big fish
  11. Got a 4.6 today on a DS 8 inch glide bait. Quick shore trip. Missed 2 other decent fish on the glide
  12. Up here in Ma we have a ton of bodies of water to fish. Mostly smaller, we call them kettle holes. 20-50 acres, natural ponds but deep like 20 plus feet. They can be great in the winter. They are spring fed, so the weeds are alive and the water tends to stay warmer. We still get ice though. Other place are small mill ponds they have running water, they are ponds dammed up streams. They are shallow but can also be really good. Our bigger places are only 100-300 acres, not huge lakes like down south or up north. Not a ton of off shore structures either. You got to hunt them, but when you find them, your golden. Different bottom compositions, living weeds, or deep structure and cover. I clear water is the best, winter can be tough but when you find them you are set. I can confidently target the same spots every winter and get them. Where I live you can hit multiple ponds in a day, if one spots slow, hit another and another until you get em
  13. Get out before any front. It’s been cold up here in Ma, mid 30s. Omg warming to 43 and rain. I’ll be going. one of the local guys got his PB the day after a cold front, cold, blue bird skies
  14. I don’t mind sharing lures and what I’m usin. I just don’t tell where I’m fishin.
  15. DONT SAY THAT!!!! I’m thinking of going out this weekend in the boat! I won’t quit!
  16. I fish a lot of the same ponds. Some ponds I love in the cold water cuz I know I’ll get bit. While other ponds I only fish in spring cuz I know it’s my best shot at a giant. I do enjoy exploring new ponds though or learning places I haven’t fished much. But it does depend on time of year and weather!
  17. Keep with the pattern or switch up for the deeper fish.
  18. Oh yea. Plenty of bait around, I can get shiners and worms easily. I’m a lure guy tho.
  19. That’s how I fish a tube, largemouth! Yea I fish mostly from a boat, but have caught smallies from shore in December. I’ve caught smallies all winter long, but not in the numbers I see other guys catchin. All I’ve hear is smallies are on fire in the winter! Witch crazy bags
  20. I live in Ma. I see people crush smallies in the winter. I’ve caught smallies in the winter but not many. Mostly largemouth. But man I love smallies. Has a smallie jump a few times last weekend. But it was the only one of the day. Blades tubes and hairs jigs are what I throw in the winter. Oh these are pond and lake smallies. No river bassing out in these parts
  21. I usually fish slow and slower. I don’t like fishing fast.
  22. Totally a guide. Because they know the local water. They been learning that body of water for years. That’s their livelihood. A pro would be good and adaptable anywhere they have to be. But a guide would be a better choice for specific bodies of water. But there’s no bass guides in these parts
  23. That to. I would love to learn on how they fish. So I can come back and keep slaying bass
  24. I have a 300 acre pond like that. I catch mostly largemouth used to be a great smallie pond. I would love to see how a pro would do. Small boat only. No ramp. But deep and clear. Not crazy off shore structure like the big lakes but there is some.
