  1. Half the battle is where to fish!
  2. Pretty much my entire saltwater fishing is I should have zigged when I zagged
  3. I’m in Marshfield on the ocean. Half way between the Cape and Boston. Ri is just over an hour to the boarder. Never really fished bass there. Mostly cuz there’s so much water out this way I still Need to learn. Also places I’ve fished for years I’m still learning.
  4. Love the replies! Crazy amount of water out there. Most of them in my area don’t have info on how deep or if there’s good fish!
  5. I live in MA near the cape. I have over 500 places to fish within an hour of my house. So many places to fish. Some places are big, some are small ponds, some shallow, some deep! I try to learn a few ponds each year.
  6. That’s a nice fish! Bigger then anything I’ve caught recently
  7. Got out after work for a quick trip. Hit my favorite winter spot. Tubes and my custom hair jigs got them. 3 bass 3 picks and a couple perch. Had a bass and perch eat my jig on camera. Also had a pickerel eat the camera.
  8. Wish I had those fish around
  9. Never thrown a C rig
  10. @flyfisher great info. I’m still trying to get this winter game down. I have 2 spots I do well at that I figured out where they sit. One is deep clear. 20 ish feet max, they love to sit in the deeper green grass near this flat. It’s a good area where they can move up to feed shallow if they want. The other is just a small pond with a decent current. They love sitting on the deeper side but it’s no more then 5 feet I have so many other places I fish in the warmer months. I need to start checking them out in the cold. I haven’t had to many good days fishing in the winter outside my usual places. I’ll scratch up a fish or 2 but that’s it even smallies but not having electronics and fishing 99% of the time in a kayak is tough in the winter
  11. It’s winter, some guys are still fishin. Hope we don’t get ice in MA this year! When I see winter posts it’s about what baits. So I want to ask something different. Or just open topic about the other factors of winter fishin. I’m talking about water below 50. You southern folk don’t get winter! What kind of areas are you fishin? Shallow lakes/ponds vs deep lakes/ponds. Are you looking for inflows? Timber? Crawling ledges deep in 25 feet of water? Are you switching up gear? Using lighter line. Using smaller baits? There’s no bad info
  12. Ds customs makes great baits. I bought one on a whim, cuz he had something I thought might be could. It led to having the best season I’ve ever had. With a new personal best now I own a lot of his baits. It started with a floating glide. Caught an 8-2 7-5 7-1 on it in a month with plenty of other fish. . But he makes other great baits! other baits I use. real preys are my favorite soft bait! Caught a ton of good fish on them!
  13. Got out yesterday, It was a grind but we got em. 2 ponds all day. 4 largemouths 2 smallies, bunch of perch a few jumbos and a couple pickerels. Blades, my jigs, tubes, and spinnerbaits got em!
  14. I live in MA near the cape. Most of the state is iced in but on the cape it rarely freezes. I never caught anything big between November and February. Some decent numbers. My bass fishing is October-April. Big bass is March and April. Numbers October-February
  15. Blade bait, hair jigs, tubes, jerkbaits and big swimbaits. I fish blades, hair jigs and tubes in deeper places. Big swimbaits and jerkbaits in the shallow places. I’m fishing in 40 degree water. Give or take a degree or two
  16. I don’t vertical jig them. I cast them. I do pretty good with them in the cold water. Smallie largemouth and perch. Slow lift pause. Often times they inhale it when it’s on the bottom. You don’t feel the bite when you lift it feels heavy!
  17. Tons of stumps. It’s a cranberry bog reservoir.
  18. Awesome info! Got a pond I really want to check out! If I hit it right I feel like it’s going to be lights out. Problem is finding them. Lots of stumps and it’s a shallow pond. But I have an idea where they should be just hope I’m right. Also gotta pick the right day to get out there
  19. I need to find better places. I’ve done well at 2 places. One shallow one deep. But that’s it. I’ve caught topwater bass all winter! But they are small fish. Especially the shallow pond. All 2lbers with an occasional 3 if I’m lucky! I’d love to figure out more places. Have a rotation of spots to hit that I know I’ll probably get bit! And hopefully catch some bigger fish. The deep spot. Has better healthier fish average is about 3lbs. But if I get a 4 I’m lucky
  20. I live in Massachusetts near the cape. Luckily the winters haven’t been to cold, been able to open water fish all winter. I got some go to winter ponds I figured out where they live. I’m much better at fishing deeper ponds in the cold. I need advice for shallow water. Where are you finding them? I’ve heard different things. That the north side of the pond is the best area. Gets the most sunlight, protected from the winds. Also heard find the deeper weeds.
  21. We fished hard 4 days in upstate Ny. Fish did not come easy. We fished some of our usual spots and checked out new spots. Total tally. 3 lake trout. 2 salmon, 2 steelhead, 1 brown trout. We lost some good fish! Part of the game. Got 2 new personal best. 18lb 38 inch lake trout, and a 8lbs 10 ounce 29 inch steelhead. Fished 10 hours on Sunday with out a fish. Then bam 2 cast got a 13lbs 35 inch laker and the new Pb. Once again Dixie jigs crushed it. Tally for my jigs. 4 kings. 2 steelhead. We broke off 2 big steelhead and one big laker on the jig. Mark caught 5 kings 4 lakers and 1 steelhead
