  1. owner st 41 i use them for my swimbaits! love them!
  2. im sure its possible but could they have a die off in a pond thats 30 feet deep with springs? we get some bad winters and have had fish kills before but never would think it would happen in a place like this there is very little shallow water. the shoreline drops very quickly thanks guys for the info. there is plenty of feed for them. you can see all the bait fish feeding at the surface at sundown. its loaded. big shiners to like 1lb shiners. but maybe it isnt a bad thing to cull out some smaller bass. to keep the balance between predators and prey. also makes me wonder about bass color swimbaits. maybe thats the secret to catching the larger fish here.
  3. went down the cape saturday, fished 2 ponds both new spots to me. one super shallow, fished jigs, jerkbaits, swimbaits here. had a questionable hit on a swimbait. went to another deeper spot my buddy told me it was good. pond was skimmed over, the wind ended up breaking the ice so it opened up. caught 3 perch on hair jigs. sunday went out for a few hours in the rain, both of my winter ponds are open. fished from shore no action but still good to get out. glad to find more open water. these spots ive done very well in the cold water. i know where ill be fishing this weekend no open water bass yet this year. caught my first bass of the year ice fishing in early january.
  4. any reason why? maybe the bait they feed on is big so there for they target big baits. also why is there a ton of small bass and big bass. never catch 3-4lb bass
  5. i got one! ive caught many big fish on my 9 inch slammers. tried fishin a hudd here no success! cant wait to get the real prey down there! my biggest is 7.8 on a blue gill cranking 9 inch slammer
  6. yea thats not bad 3 fish 8.5. hope he did catch that 5. its still anyones game tho
  7. my team aint doin so good LEE HOWELL LUCAS HORTON HANSELMAN Lucas and Hanselman are in the top 20 but the other 3 are tanking.
  8. i have a honey hole that has big bass but its weird. either super small bass like 1-2lbsers or a 5plus. if you fish conventional baits your going to load up on small bass and think this place sucks.since ive started fishing swimbaits the size of the bass went way up. i can expect a 5 plus ever trip. i have caught some big bass on conventional gear over the years, frogs, plastics, spinner baits. havent broken 8lbs here, tough here in MA. but i think there are giants out deep. its a small pond, 11 acres, deep water 30 feet. lot of bait fish, no competing fish like pike pickerel or anything like that. perch, sunfish, shiners
  9. its a great technique not used. gota to think outside the box
  10. cant wait! didnt fish it last year
  11. ive drop shotted in stained water, had some good luck flipping a drop shot to logs trees and other cover just like a texas rig or a jig. beefier line, hooks and plastics as well
  12. i also pick up trash, dont leave anything behind and respect the bog owners land. so its not guys like me that make fishermen look bad, i make the place look better when i leave, most of the time people dont know im there
  13. i was frustrated with getting to the water then getting booted off. the pond its self isnt private, the easiest way in is private. i rarely have any bad encounters with bog owners. if i see someone out side ill make small talk with them, if they do ask me to leave, im very polite. most of the time they dont come out. ive gotten permission to fish a few places as well.
  14. theres 2 places in mind! both ive fished in the past! both are big deep lakes with out big boats, only car top boats. both are hard to get into so i dont fish em enough, when i do it in a yak with no electronics and cant fish em properly, both have GIANT bass. i would love to live on them have a skiff out back with electronics and really learn how to fish these places.
  15. i went local for this tournie
  16. nah the land owners came down, so i knew it was private by all the private signs, i waited a bit to see if they would come out. no one so i unpacked the car, drag the yak down the bogs. get to the kayak to the waters edge, ready to launch, he comes out says you cant fish here. I don't understand he waited until i was ready to launch! i was ticked!!! worst part is this place you used to be able to get to. the launch was down these bogs! heard good things about it. i shore fished it once before but that was cutting through some thick woods, so ill find another way in
  17. got out this weekend. saturday was tough in the wind. my buddy missed a pickerel. sunday found more open water. caught a pickerel at spot 1. got booted off spot 2. last spot of the day, i love this spot, old faithful produces again. not much open water but enough to cast, pickerel were stacked up. caught 6 pickerel and a perch. felt so good bending the rod again
  18. i have river herring up here in MA, love fishing big swimbaits as well. savage gear shine glide matches river herring perfectly, shape and body color. ms slammer, my all time favorite swimbait. real prey swimbaits, have a few different baits that match the size, shape and color. these are soft baits as well. 3:16 rising sons are a good soft swimbait. deps 175 slide swimmer in blue back color. huddleston deluxe soft swimbait another great choice. live target makes some super realistic herring swimbaits. both hard and soft swimbaits!
  19. i fish smaller ponds that are deep in the winter. i fish out of a yak and the bigger places are friggin hard in a yak. so small ponds. find deep structure, steep drops, flats, rocks, trees, anything deep. when you find one fish, youll find more. they school up in the winter, especailly smallies. with blades i use a ML rod with 8-10 lbs floro. slow hops, cast out, let it settle to bottom, lift rod till i feel it vibrate. sometimes they want it ripped up, most of the time they just want it lifted. then pause let it fall to bottom, let the fish tell you how much vibration and how long to let the bait sit on bottom. hair jigs are my new thing ive been using, havent been out since november and december water in the 40s, hair jigs were getting chewed. cast out crawl it on bottom, or slow hop.
  20. blade baits and jigs! people love jerkbaits but i cant figure em out, i suck at jerkbait fishing!
  21. wow 8-12 feet of water! d**n thats pretty shallow for this time of year
  22. yea im still a rookie at the fantasy fishing, i usually forget about it when fishing seasons come around but thats after i do crappie. i follow the advice giving but i still am not to confident on who to pick.
  23. do you guys follow what they say in the articles for each tournie, or go by your own judgement and knowledge?
  24. fished in NY, MA where i live, NH, MA, ME, and Ireland
